The Syrian EIA Directive contains five Chapters and actually two annexes. Chapter 1 contains the general provisions, including regulation of the objectives, definitions, application, and clarifies the relationship to other procedures. Chapter 2 contains provisions on the administration. Chapter 3 is about the Environmental Impact Assessment Procedure, including provisions on the Scoping Document, the Assessment, the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS), on access to environmental information, on public consultation, on secrecy and data protection. Chapter 4 is about transboundary environmental effects, in particular on transboundary participation which is not very relevant today, but might become quite important in the future.
