Dr. Larry W. Leonard District Superintendent [email protected]MAY 2013 In his daily devotional book, is Day With e Master, Dr. Dennis Kinlaw reminds us: e stories of the calling of the twelve disciples give us wonderful insights into the business of how men and women are reached for Christ. According to the gospel of John, only one of the first five disciples was reached directly by Christ. at was Philip. Jesus said to him, “Follow me” (John 1:43). e other four were reached by someone else’s witness to Christ. As we approach Tennessee District Family Camp, I recall my days as a child when I went to the Sartinsville camp meetings near McComb, Mississippi, where people were brought to Christ and their lives were transformed miraculously at the altar on the sawdust floor. Times have changed. Sartinsville has long become an abandoned camp, camp meetings have lost their lure, and where there are camp meetings, mostly the devout church goers are the ones who come. Wouldn’t it be a true blessing for us to bring someone to Christ by bringing them to Family Camp, May 28-June 2? If you would bring them to hear Dr. James Diehl and Dr. Gary Henecke, it is just possible that you would be bringing them to Jesus so they could be His disciple. You, as one person can make a huge difference in someone’s spiritual life. Consider bringing a friend to Tennessee Family Camp at Camp Garner Creek. Has anyone ever discovered Jesus at a Nazarene District Assembly? My guess is that it doesn’t happen oſten if ever. However, can you imagine the excitement we would have and the impact a life transformed at District Assembly could have on our local churches? is year we will have our District Assembly opening service on Wednesday night, July 10, 7:00pm, at Nashville First Church of the Nazarene. I long to see a great movement of God come on our District Assembly where people will have a true encounter with the living God. We are designing our opening service to provide the atmosphere for God to come among us. I encourage you to gather all of your friends and fellow church attenders and join us for this district gathering. ere is an excitement in my heart regarding this year’s assembly. I look forward to seeing you there.

I love you and there’s nothing you can do about it!
May is that deceiving little month in youth ministry where you feel like you are goingto have time to catch your breath and prepare for a busy summer. However, before you know it you are at graduation parties and you have missed the first summer camp deadline.Summer is just around the corner and there are so many exciting things in store for TNYI.
We did it! We placed 1st overall for the first time since 1993! This year was such a great year to be a part of the TNYI at TNT@TNU. The family spirit of our district was so evident as we cheered each other on in each event from sports, music, arts, and quizzing. If you listen closely you can still hear the
Camp Training Day: We had 30 youth pastors/youth workers join us for a “camp training day” on May 2nd at Nashville First church. The day was filled with networking, games we make our students play, and of course planning for the best summer camp around. This was just one more reminder of how blessed the TNYI is to have so many people that love and invest in our students.
Camp is here! We are less than a month away from this year’s TNYI camp! The theme this year will be “The Kingdom” as we explore what our lives are to look like when we live in the Kingdom of God. High School camp will beJune 3-7 with Jon Middendorf and Refuge: Middle School camp will be June 10-14 with Andrew Zirschky and Same State. Forms and information may be printed at www.tnnyi.com.
NYI CONVENTION....This year we will celebrate a great year of TNYI with our NYIconvention on Friday July 12th at Nashville First church. The evening will beginat 5:00pm. Following the business session we will be going to “Sky High” trampolinepark! The cost for this activity is $20 each, which includes admission, andunlimited pizza and drinks.
