Task/AudienceImagine that you are a doctor who is seeing a patient. You diagnose that the patient has diabetes (your group will be assigned either type 1 or type 2 diabetes to work with). Your task is to develop ‘Doctor’s Notes’ to explain your diagnosis and a working model to teach the patient about diabetes. This person has little or no knowledge about the disease, so you should develop your explanation to help this patient.

What You Will DoIn groups of 3:1. You will be assigned either type 1 or type 2

diabetes for your activity2. Prepare a presentation– Your group will present in front of the class (aka the

patient). Each group member will be responsible for presenting one of the following sections:• Description of the symptoms (component 1)• Processes inside the body (component 2)• Treatment options and what they do (component 3)

– Your presentation will be peer evaluated by another group as well as by your teacher for individual and group marks

– It should not last more than 10 minutes

What You Will Do3. Create a model that helps to teach your patient

– You should use your model to help in the explanation of each section (in your pres.). This will help the patient better understand what you are talking about.

4. Along with your presentation and model, you must provide ‘Doctor’s Notes’. This write-up should include:

– Which diabetes type you are working with– What symptoms and/or risk factors did the patient have that

led you to this type of diabetes?– What is going on inside of the patient’s body? – What treatment or prevention options are available for the

disease? (Describe at least two of each and tie them in to your model)

Organize the information creatively and clearly!
