1- MEDITERRANEAN’S LARGEST CRUISE EVENT TO BE HELD INMARSEILLE IN 2012

The Seatrade Med Cruise Convention, a major biennial cruise event that brings the industry together for conference,

exhibition, travel agent programmes and networking social events, will next be held in Marseille from 27-29

November 2012, hosted by Marseille Provence Cruise Club.

Seatrade’s chairman, Chris Hayman, said, “We are delighted that the next edition of Seatrade Med will be held in

Marseille in 2012. We certainly believe that the cruise market in the Mediterranean will continue to grow this year and

next, and that Marseille will expand with it as a key hub port in the western Med, repaying the hard work of the Port

and City over many years.”

These are exciting times for Marseille, which maintained its position as the top French cruise port with 344 calls and

700,000 passengers in 2010, an increase of 11% compared to 2009 and including 269,000 turnaround guests, up

55% on last year. A new cruise terminal should be operational in 2012 and the city is also set to become the

European Capital of Culture in 2013. Seatrade Med successfully debuted in France last November, cementing the

economic importance of cruise to the country with its world-renowned cruise shipbuilding and ship technology

industries with a successful show in Cannes on the French Riviera that welcomed some 3000 participants.

Mediterranean cruise market going from strength to strength France, with the longest coastline in Europe, is in an

ideal position to benefit from the 5 mon Europeans now cruising. In 2009, more than 4.8 million passengers

embarked on their cruises from a European port and the vast majority of these cruises visited ports in the

Mediterranean ,the Baltic and other European regions. 152 cruise ships were active in Mediterranean waters,

collectively carrying a potential 3.33 million passengers on 2,779 cruises. Soaring demand for the Mediterranean has

made it now the second most popular cruise destination, after the Caribbean. Increased ship deployment and an

ever-extending cruise season are prompting continued growth predictions through 2011.

Profile of passengers embarking / disembarking at Marseille (Summer 2009 survey)

In order to promote embarkation from Marseille and increase the benefits from cruise passenger expenditure in the

tourism sector, the Marseille Provence Cruise Club, the City of Marseille, and the Regional Tourist Board

commissioned a study from the Marseille Provence Chamber of Commerce.

Survey methodology : The results shown below relate to 600 passengers embarking and disembarking, who responded face to face at the Marseille cruise

terminal during the summer of 2009.

What are the characteristics of passengers embarking and disembarking at Marseille in the

summer of 2009?

French and mainly local clientele : more than one passenger in three lives in the Provence Alpes Côtes d’Azur

region;

40% are repeaters;

20% of cruise passengers arrive in the Marseille area one or more days before the cruise departure date;

20% of cruise passengers stay in Marseille or the surrounding area after the cruise, but for a shorter period than

before embarkation;

25% of passengers made a purchase before embarking (excluding hotels, restaurants and car parks);

11% of passengers intend to purchase something after disembarking (excluding hotels, restaurants and car parks).

But they do not all disembark from the vessel during the stopover. The "remain on board" rate is estimated at 40%,

i.e. 60% of transit pax spend money.

Transit passengers spend money on the following items: Shopping, Restaurants, Leisure activities

> Departure port passengers (who start and end their cruise in Marseille) spend an average of €150 but they do not

all spend money. It is estimated that roughly 20% of passengers spend money in the area.

Departure port passengers spend money on the following items: Shopping, Restaurants, Leisure activities +

3- MARSEILLE-PROVENCE, 2013 EUROPEAN CAPITAL OFCULTURE

What is a European Capital of Culture?

A sought-after label

The European Capital of Culture is a one-year title awarded to a city or region after an international selection

process. Initially created by the European Union in 1985, the title has become extremely sought after. For selected

cities, it means increased international visibility over a 12-month period. It has allowed cities off the beaten track, like

Lille and Liverpool, to become recognised tourist destinations.

Guests of honour: art and culture

The aim of the European Capital of Culture programme is to produce a high-quality artistic programme that is

accessible to the widest possible audience. This means calling on internationally renowned artists as well as young

emerging talents. It will be a unique encounter between local populations, artists, and visitors from all over the world.

An unforgettable experience

This is an exceptional event for France. The European Capital of Culture rules mean that the title will not be awarded

to another French city for the next ten years at least. It’s going to be the event of the decade.

What’s going to happen in 2013? In 2013, Marseille-Provence will be the European Capital of Culture. Already a major European tourist destination, the region will host over 400 cultural events showcasing European and Mediterranean artistic creation. This means amultidisciplinary programme but also unconventional, unexpected and surprising events. Each of the programme’s four seasons has been designed to reach the widest possible audience, with exhibitions ofgreat painters and sculptures alternating with contemporary art, shows, parades, festivals, cuisine and design. Fortourists and visitors, this is a unique opportunity to discover the real Provence

Before the program, some of the main events of 2013

Culture as seen by contemporary architecture

In 2013, new cultural facilities designed by some of the world’s best architects (including Rudy Ricciotti, Kengo

Kuma, Stefano Boeri, Jean Nouvel, Frank Gehry and Massimiliano Fuksas) will open their doors to the public. This is

a unique opportunity to take part in inaugural events while getting a preview of things to come. The new architecture

will transform Marseille’s sea front and form one of Europe’s first “cultural districts”. This alone is worth a trip to

Marseille-Provence in 2013.

Cultural excellence plus sun, sea, cuisine, and a Mediterranean lifestyle: you couldn’t have picked a better time to

visit.

4- New developments of the port of Marseille

Ease of accessThe port of Marseille cruise terminal benefits from exceptional access thanks to its direct link to the nearby motorway

(A55). It is located twenty minutes from the Marseille Provence international airport, and ten minutes from the Saint-

Charles SNCF / TGV High speed train railway station.

The port has three cruise berthing sites at its disposal enabling it to accommodate six vessels simultaneously,

including five mega-ships cruise. If delivery at port should at least meet delivery onboard, for sure Marseille offers

consistency by separating mass cruise tourism and small & medium luxury cruise calls.

1/ The Marseille Provence Cruise Centre on the Léon Gourret wharf accommodates the largest cruise ships

surrounded by a station area of more than 6,000 m².

2/ Berths 2 and 3 close to the Léon Gourret wharf for vessels up to 220 metres long, which can be used as a port of

call or port of departure

.3/ The Joliette terminal right in the city centre,

for tourism stopovers by small upmarket vessels.

Cruise ships up to 200 metres long can call

there. Many new infrastructures are being built

and will be opened by 2013.

Ship RepairThe San Giorgio Del Porto company began its activity of industrial ship repair in the forms 8 and 9 in October 2010.

To date, the company has occupied the forms 8 and 9 during more than 60 days and treated handled 7 ships, the

majority of which were cruise ships (6/7).

The arrival of SGDP so reveals the relevance of a site ofship repair in Marseille.

The Marseille Provence Cruise Terminal groupIn April 2009, the Marseille Port Authority handed over operation of the Léon Gourret wharf cruise facilities to a group

consisting of the companies MSC Crociere, Costa Crociere and Louis Cruise, leaders in Mediterranean cruises. The

name of the group is Marseille Provence Cruise Terminal (MPCT).

The Marseille Port Authority have shares in the group in order to participate fully in development of cruise activities

via the Marseille Fos port Authority.

Services made available to embarking / disembarking passengers Embarkation mainly takes place at the Léon Gourret wharf, since it provides a high level of comfort and services to

passengers Fenced car parks monitored by video-surveillance are available close to the MPCT embarkation stations.

Capacity : 200 and 440 vehicles. Baggage service: baggage handling is carried out at the Léon Gourret wharf for

embarking and disembarking passengers.

A welcome desk staffed by the tourist board and a Provencal market.

Marseille Port Authority investmentsA total of more than 23 million euros has been invested over the last few years to develop cruise activities in the port

of Marseille.

The main development projects completed so far are as follows:

 The Marseille Provence Cruise Centre

Two maritime terminals, 300m² and 500m² on the Léon Gourret wharf and nearby (berth 162, berth 2)

A fixed gangway, plus two mobile gangways attached to it were put into operation in 2009 between the

MPCT and berth 181. This investment was made by the MPCT group.

Marseille Port Authority has carried out work to improve docking and reception of these ships, and redevelopment

work on the Leon Gourret wharf, including strengthening of the moorings and modification of berth 181 to allow safe

docking even in winds of up to 40 knots.

Future projects

In 2011, the MPCT group will equip berth 163 with a

gangway carrier fitted with a mobile gangway.

It is also preparing to build a 15,000 m² passenger

terminal on the Léon Gouret wharf to service berths

162 and 181 : 4,000 m² will be given over to passenger

reception, 4,000 m² to baggage and 7,000 m² to

covered parking areas. This new terminal should be

finalised in 2012.

The Marseille Port Authority has planned additional

work for early 2011 to reinforce berths 182 and 183

and to position a berthing dolphin for berth 181 north of

the wharf.

6- Marseille, a unique tourist destination!

Marseille is ideally located in the heart of Provence. It is the oldest city in France, founded by the Greeks 2600 years

ago, but also very much a 21st century city with many different projects developing all the time.

Marseille is positioned as a Euro-Mediterranean metropolis and couldn't be easier to reach: whether its thanks to the

TGV (Paris to Marseille in 3 hours), the superb motorway network or air links strengthened by the opening of a low-

cost terminal, Marseille is now just a few hours from the major European capitals.

The city has become a true tourist destination, not only for business but also for pleasure, attracting nearly 4 million

tourists every year, generating more than 15 million hotel nights, and contributing to the local economy with financial

benefits of more than €700 million and 12 thousands jobs linked to tourism.

Thanks to its wonderful coastline (23 beaches, 14 marinas) and 300 days of sunshine per year, Marseille is the ideal

destination for outdoor sports. Marseille also offers a real change of scene thanks to the Calanques, a future

National Park that will adopt a management approach based on sustainable tourism principles. The Calanques are

towering cliffs of white limestone plunging into the turquoise waters of the Mediterranean, covering some 20

kilometres of coastline.

Marseille has been chosen as European Cultural Capital for 2013, and is greatly appreciated for its authenticity.

However this city is looking firmly to the future, when the most internationally renowned architects will have left the

mark of their genius. Cultural projects such as the Silo, MUCEM and FRAC are currently under construction so as to

be ready for the rendezvous in 2013.

Marseille also attracts people who love culture and excitement, offering a rich and varied programme of events

throughout the year : jazz festival, dance festival, the Fiesta des Suds, huge popular gatherings, superb sporting

events (Audi Med Cup, marathon, Open tennis tournament, etc.) and also exhibitions that have an international

impact.

From 26 May 2011 a major exhibition will be presented to the public entitled "Orientalism in Europe", co-produced

with the Fine Arts Museums of Brussels and Munich.

Marseille also invites you to discover its gastronomy, via its traditional recipes : bouillabaisse, pieds et paquets and

navettes..., and also thanks to young chefs who will surprise you with their inventive cuisine reinventing the exquisite

flavours of the Mediterranean. Gérald Passédat, chef at the Petit Nice-Passédat who is one of the very few chefs to

obtain 3 stars in the Michelin Guide.

In Marseille, shopping is king!

From the Vieux Port to Le Panier, a stroll through history is a must, punctuated by a few visits to Marseille's artisans.

The House of Pastis, boutiques selling soaps, chocolate, ceramics and santons will draw you into the authentic world

of Marseille where respect for Provencal traditions is paramount. But if you prefer modern design and fashion, head

for the Opera House or the Cours Julien, where you will discover Marseille's designers making their contribution to

the fashions of today and tomorrow. Thanks to the city's renewed image, and the development of tourism and

cruises, the city has also succeeded in attracting some of the most prestigious brands; luxury is no longer reserved

Marseille, the gateway to Provence

Marseille is not only a leading Mediterranean cruise

destination, it's also the main port of Provence. A few

kilometres from the city you will find Aix-en Provence,

Cassis, Bandol, the Aubagne area, and also the Alpilles,

Saint Rémy de Provence, Baux de Provence, Arles and

the Camargue, the Luberon, Avignon, etc. All these sites

are perfect for a tourist trip or stay before or after your

cruise.

The ‘Marseille Provence on the move’ brandAbout ‘Marseille Provence on the move’:

Launched in 2010, the ‘Marseille Provence on the move’ brand is responsible for promoting Marseille’s many tourism

assets and values, and for conveying its numerous ambitions. The various promotional campaigns showcase

Marseille as a must-visit destination for both leisure and business tourism and cruises. Drawing tourists to the city

boosts Marseille’s economic development and thus also the number of jobs available in the tourism sector. The

brand also involves asserting the city’s uniqueness, making development of its tourism sector a leading example

among the major European metropolises, and establishing the city’s international influence by promoting it as a must-

visit tourist destination in France, Europe and the rest of the world.

Marseille’s new image allows for international investors to be drawn to the city, and for new jobs to be created in

economic sectors other than tourism. This approach initiated by the businesses of the tourism sector should be

adopted by all economic actors to raise Marseille to among the ranks of the top 20 cities in Europe.
