E-PUBLISHING
Hinduism is a complex and rich religion. Nofounderís initiative, no dogma, no reformhave imposed restrictions on its domain; onthe contrary, the contributions of the centu-ries have been superimposed without everwearing out the previous layers of develop-ment. Hinduism can appear either as an ex-trovert religion of spectacle, abundant my-thology and congregational practices or as areligion which is profoundly interiorized.Hinduism, which is eminently popular in itspractices and external manifestations, is es-sentially a religion of the learned. It alsocharacterizes society as a whole. The caste sys-tem with its various ìstagesî of existence ispart of Hinduism. But taking everything intoconsideration, it is preferable to look uponHinduism as a whole without looking for su-perficial subdivisions which is the approachof the above series.
The series aims to explore and study themajor aspects of Hinduism in a concise andreadable format. It is meant for generalreaders who are interested in understandingthe general characteristics of Hinduism. Thedifferent volumes in it will be informative, meaningful and interesting to them.
