A ship is wrecked on the rocks. Viola is washed ashore but her twin brother Sebastian is lost. Determined to survive on her own, she steps out to explore a new land.

So begins a whirlwind of mistaken identity and unrequited love. The nearby households of Olivia and Orsino are overrun with passion. Even Olivia's upright housekeeper Malvolia is swept up in the madness.

Where music is the food of love, and nobody is quite what they seem, anything proves possible.

Simon Godwin (Man and Superman, The Beaux’ Stratagem) directs this joyous new production with Tamsin Greig as a transformed Malvolia.

‘Beauty is but skin deep, ugly lies the bone; beauty dies and fades away, but ugly holds its own.’

After three tours in Afghanistan and months in a severe burns unit, Jess finally returns to Florida. In a small town on the Space Coast, as the final shuttle is about to launch, Jess must confront her scars, and a home that may have changed even more than her.

Experimenting with a pioneering virtual reality therapy, she builds a breathtaking new world where she can escape her pain. There, she begins to restore her relationships, her life and, slowly, herself.

Award-winning American playwright Lindsey Ferrentino makes her UK debut with this honest and funny new drama, directed by Indhu Rubasingham (The Motherf**ker with the Hat).

A co-production with Bristol Old Vic

by JM Barrie devised by the Companies

HHHHH

‘Something to delight the whole family’ The Times

All children, except one, grow up...

This winter, JM Barrie’s much-loved tale takes flight. When Peter Pan, the leader of the Lost Boys, loses his shadow during a visit to London, headstrong Wendy helps him reattach it. In return she is invited to Neverland – where Tinker Bell the fairy, Tiger Lily and the vengeful Captain Hook await.

Following the acclaimed Jane Eyre, Sally Cookson brings her wondrously inventive Peter Pan to the NT after a sell-out run at Bristol Old Vic. Exploring the possibilities and pain of growing up, it’s a riot of magic, mischief, music and make-believe.

In the run-up to Christmas, three families are placed into cramped temporary accommodation.

A middle-aged man and his elderly mum, a young family with a baby on the way, a newly arrived woman from Sudan. Strangers. Forced together. No space is personal.

In this new play by Alexander Zeldin, written through a devising process, the audience are invited to bear witness to an intimate story of family love for our times.

Alexander Zeldin’s previous work includes Beyond Caring, acclaimed as ‘raw’ (Financial Times) and ‘unforgettable’ (The Times). LOVE continues this unique approach to theatre.

16 January – 18 February | Dorfman Theatre

HHHHH ‘Startling. Remarkable.’ Guardian

In September 2004 a group of terrorists stormed a school in Beslan taking hundreds of children hostage. The ensuing siege lasted three days and left many dead. Us/Them is not a straightforward account of this terrible tragedy, but an exploration of the entirely individual ways children cope with traumatic situations.

After a sell-out run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2016, Us/Them comes to the NT.

Suitable for 12yrs+

In association with Summerhall

28 February – 22 March | Dorfman Theatre

In the days after the EU referendum, the National Theatre began a nationwide listening project. A team of interviewers spoke to people around the country – from Leicester to Derry/Londonderry and Merthyr Tydfil to Glasgow – to hear their views of the country and town they live in, their lives, their future, and the referendum.

Using exact words taken from the interviews, My Country; a work in progress puts those conversations centre stage, directed by Rufus Norris.

Created in collaboration with eight UK arts organisations with Cusack Projects Limited

HHHHH ‘Unmissable.’ Sunday Times

Join wannabe DJ Jason on a chemically enhanced trip through the streets of Dublin. Somewhere between the DJs, drug busts and hilltop raves, he stumbles across a familiar face from the past: his brother Daniel. They haven't spoken in years but, over a lost weekend, they reconnect and reminisce over tunes, trips and their city.

A razor-sharp spoken word odyssey, with high-octane performances.

Supported by Culture Ireland

4 – 18 March | Dorfman Theatre

‘If we don't get lost, how can we find a new route?’

Pioneering improvisers and theatre-makers Improbable bring you their latest show, Lost Without Words – a theatrical experiment.

Imagine older actors in their 70s and 80s, actors who have spent their lives being other people, bringing life to other people’s words. Imagine they were on stage with nothing but themselves and no words but their own. No script, no map, a different show every night, all they have is a lifetime of theatre to help them find their way.

HHHHH ‘A landslide success.’ Evening Standard

It’s 1974. And Westminster is about to go to war with itself.

Set in the engine rooms of the House of Commons, James Graham’s This House dives deep into the secret world of the whips who roll up their sleeves, and occasionally bend the rules, to influence an unruly chorus of MPs within the Mother of all Parliaments.

Premiered to universal acclaim at the National Theatre in 2012, This House, directed by Headlong’s Artistic Director Jeremy Herrin transfers to the West End for a limited season.

This cover was created with the Props Department.

Props are anything that appears on stage that isn’t scenery or a costume. The Props department is responsible for creating and sourcing props for every production, no matter how peculiar or obscure. Props supervisors have an in-depth knowledge of period styles and where to source both mundane and unusual items. Prop-makers require a range of skills including furniture making, metalwork, sculpting, upholstery and paint techniques; they have a keen eye for detail and work across productions that range from the classical to contemporary.
