Week 1: Insect HotelLearn all about the secret life

our tiniest friends – insects! In

this camp, students will learn

about insect life cycles, where

and how to find them and which

ones we should attract to our

backyards. The camp culminates

with the creation of your very

own insect hotel to take home!

Activities may include: insect

traps (pitfalls, beat sheets, nets,

fruit traps), bug scavenger hunts

and nature walks.

Week 2: Call of the WildThere are so many fun and

easy ways to attract wildlife

to your backyard. In this camp,

you will learn about different

types of animals that could

call your backyard home

and create microhabitats for

them, including toad abodes,

seed bombs and bird feeders!

Activities may include: using

digital bird calls and backyard

habitat mini-lessons.

Week 3: GIY: Grow It Yourself Garden LabThis is the camp if you’re

looking for a DIY approach to

backyard gardening. Create your

own garden supplies and use

things from the garden to make

your own cool items that you

can keep for yourself or make

the perfect gift for friends and

family. Activities may include:

journals, sleepy herb sachets,

DIY plant press, and eco-pots.

Week 4: Pick Your PalletThis camp gives you all the

tools you need to design your

own patio pallet garden. We will

explore nature’s color palette,

dive into landscape design and

examine a variety of gardens

suitable for your house. Have

you ever thought about your

own pizza or salsa garden? If so,

this is the camp for you! Then,

you will build your very own

mini pallet garden to take home.

Camp Lamplighter has partnered with the Dallas Arboretum this summer to offer

hands-on, wild and wonderful outdoor experiences for children! Experienced Dallas

Arboretum educator, Christina Garza, leads four special one-week camps that explore

the science and beauty found in nature. Each week has a new theme – choose one or

sign up for all four camps. Dallas Arboretum camp sessions run from 8:00 a.m. - 12:00

p.m., Monday - Friday, and are open to rising 1st - 4th graders. Your child will be sure to

love every moment!

Come join us for summer ballet fun where art, crafts, music and choreography are featured in this two-hour program. Our week will culminate with a dance to show what we have learned!

BattleBots1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.Bill Burton Class Fee: $125Grades: 3–4 Enrollment: 12

Design it. Build it. Program it. And then put it in the ring to battle it out. Students will make their own BattleBot robots using Lego Mindstorms EV3 robotics and then test the strength and endurance in the robot battle ring. Will your robot destroy or disable the others? Or, will yours end up in the junkyard to be redesigned and built again?

Get amped up for guitar camp! This camp is designed for beginning students who have the passion to learn how to play the guitar. Over the course of the week, campers will learn basic techniques, chords, and styles in order to continue growth or begin a new hobby. Private lessons will be offered by Vibrant Sounds School of Music teachers once camp is completed in order to continue the student’s growth and passion for playing the guitar. Are you ready to rock?

We are the Chess Nuts and we don’t play normal chess! We play chess variants: different and unusual chess matches that test strategy, brainpower, and creativity. There are a million and one chess variants out there and we’ll play as many as we can squeeze in. Have you ever played Tag Team Chess? Dice Chess? Half-Court Chess? Random Chess? We may even invent a few of our own along the way. Sign up and go nuts for chess! Disclaimer: No chess

experience is required. Fake disclaimer: these nuts are allergen free and no nuts will be cracked during these games.

Creative Crafting – Weeks 1 & 2 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.Jo Nelson Class Fee: $250 Grades: 1–5 Enrollment: 12

Looking for debonair and diva DIYers. This class will be filled with tons of hands on learning, fun, creative and unique expressions. Your child will love his or her new found self-confidence when they walk away with so many cool handcrafted designs. We will work on projects like a hovercraft, banjo, wind chime, chandelier, curtains and even a spa kit. But that is just the beginning. It is recommended that you take this class weeks 1 and 2, or weeks 3 and 4.

Enchanted Engineering8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.Melissa McNally Class Fee: $250Grades: T1–5 Enrollment: 12

This enchanting camp uses fairy tales to set up a specific STEM challenge! The campers will start by exploring different versions of fairy tales in search for a problem. After finding the problem, the students are challenged to find a solution and to build and test their prototype! How will the billy goats cross the river after the bridge breaks? How will Little Red get to gramdma’s without crossing the forest? Join this camp and let the discoveries begin!

Melissa McNally loves the FUN of summer camp and has spent the last 15 summers working as a camp teacher. Melissa is excited for Camp Lamplighter and is looking forward to spending some summer time where her twin sister, Maggie Fulton, spends her days!

Fly into First Grade!Session 1: 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.Maggie Fulton Class Fee: $125Grades: 1 Enrollment: 16

Come get a flying start into first grade! Rising first grade students will get exposure to all the fun and challenges of Lamplighter’s first grade curriculum. We will work on phonics skills, handwriting, reading stamina, and basic math skills. Highlights are writing a “published” writing piece and learning Lamplighter favorite math games. Students will leave feeling confident and ready for the school year ahead.

French Fairy Tales: Castles and Kings and Knights, Oh My! 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.Cynthia Wildridge Class Fee: $125Grades: T1–5 Enrollment: 12

17th century French author Charles Perrault penned some of the most famous fables in the repertoire. Through them, we will explore the common themes of castles, kings, and knights . . with a few princesses and swords thrown in for good measure! See the castles that inspired the stories, learn French vocabulary, colors, and shapes associated with the stories, and then reinforce them through games and activities. We may learn about period food and attire, the parts of a castle, materials used to make a castle, see pictures of the king and queen’s bed chambers, make a sword or a crown, and design our own unique King or Queen’s Seal. Time permitting, children may wish to create a story to take home with them.

French Fashion: Coco on the Catwalk8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.Cynthia Wildridge Class Fee: $250Grades: T1–5 Enrollment: 8

French designer Coco Chanel was one of the most iconic people of the 20th century. She revolutionized the way women look and dress. Learn about her life in France and of the things, places and people that influenced how she transformed herself and the world around her. We’ll encounter French geography, vocabulary, and phrases through stories, games & activities. Bring fabric, beads, and trims from home to design and create a hat, bag, or clothing for our Friday Fashion Show! We will cut and sew with needle and thread, perhaps adding a bit of beading or embroidery along the way. Ooh, la la!

Yahtzee! Farkle! Sleeping Queens! Jenga! Uno! In this camp, we’ll play some of the classic dice games and card games as well as explore some more modern game inventions. If we get tired of sitting indoors, we can head outside to toss a novelty flying disk or some free play on the playground.

Do you love to stay active, but get discouraged by the burning Texas sun during the Summer months? This camp is for you! Enjoy a morning watersports class that will get your heart pumping while keeping you cool. We will have so much fun playing games like bowling, ice hockey, dodgeball, baseball and much more, all with a cool, refreshing twist.

Funny Farmers10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.Jeff Peck Class Fee: $125Grades: T1–5 Enrollment: 12

Do you like to laugh? Do you like making other people laugh? The Funny Farmers Comedy Troupe is just for you! It’s Lamplighter’s own version of Saturday Night Live! We write and rehearse a completely new sketch comedy show every week on a particular theme. Each week is different so sign up for as many as you like. As always, a final performance of all student work will take place at the end of each week, so join us for a new show every Friday!

Draw the newest aliens for the Senate or the Mos Eisley cantina! We have X, Y, A, and B Wings, but can you design ships for all the other letters of the alphabet? Fly the Death Star trench in a fighter of your own design! Follow the teachings of Master Yoda as we explore parts of all eight movies! Let’s write the next chapter: Episode VII and 1/2: A Lamp Is Lit!

3…2…1 BLAST OFF! Let’s take a journey into space. Students will learn what it is like to be an astronaut through experiments, games, and activities. We will journey through the planets learning what life would be like in those places. Should we go live on Jupiter? Mars? Saturn? Come explore!

Looking for an a-MAZE-ing way to spend a summer afternoon? Come join this camp for a week of solving, exploring and designing mazes. The students will explore and generate different types of mazes including ball-in-a-maze, labyrinths, loops in a trap maze, number mazes, and picture mazes!

Design and create your own stuffed creature. Students will think about what sort of plush toy they’d like to make. We’ll use skills in engineering and creativity to make their designs come to life as a fluffy, stuffed plush. Along with way, students will learn the basics of working with fabrics and sewing.

Southern Shindig 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.Jo Nelson Class Fee: $125Grades: 1–5 Enrollment: 12

Hey y’all! You’re invited to a good ole southern shindig. This class will be filled with homemade southern cuisine. Enjoy creating a different hand squeezed lemonade every day, making snacks in our DIY solar oven and finishing it off with a sweet treat made from scratch. There will be frozen and sparkling lemonade, mac and cheese, nachos, popsicles and even ice cream.

Who Is Doctor Who 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.Jeff Peck Class Fee: $125Grades: 2–5 Enrollment: 12

The world-famous Lamplighter Doctor Who club resumes its operations this summer catching up on the latest season of our favorite TV show. We’ll write new entries into the ever-growing Lamplighter episode guide. We’ll interview each other for Celestial Toyroom about the best and worst episode of Season 10, as well as catch up on some classic episodes. Let’s have an adventure in time and space!

Let’s make a little magic of our own this summer as we transform Lamplighter into Hogwallers, the American branch campus of Hogwarts. No Slytherin or Gryffindor here (we’ve got our own house names). We will seek out our own wands and master the arts of spell casting. We’ll play an impromptu game of street level Quidditch. We might even sample a few Bertie Botts Every Flavor Beans. Brush up on your Potter trivia and prepare for a wizard duel or two!

Anime Art Adventure8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. Jeff Peck Class Fee: $125Grades: T1–5 Enrollment: 12

For years, Mr. Peck has been a doodler, specifically a sci-fi doodler. He’s drawn ships and mecha from Star Trek, Star Wars, and Doctor Who, but there was one thing he always loved to doodle: ANIME! (That’s Japanese animation). Great shows like Gigantor, Speed Racer, Battle of the Planets, Voltron, Astro Boy, and more! Pick up your sketchpads as we watch some classic anime from the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and today. Then let’s draw the characters in new adventures! What will be the next episode? That’s for you to decide and create!

Beginner and experienced chess players welcome! Bring your chess game up to a new level with our fun and educational chess camp. Instruction provided by experienced chess professionals. All equipment is provided. Numerous studies have proven that kids obtain a higher reading level, math level and a greater learning ability overall as a result of playing chess. Chess playing kids do better at school and therefore have a better chance to succeed in life.

Let’s get into the rhythm this summer! Join this camp to hear the sounds of drumming around the world! This camp is designed for campers who would like to learn about drums and many other percussion instruments originated from all over the world. Campers will not only learn how to play an instrument, but also learn the history about drums and other percussion instruments. During this week, campers will get the opportunity to play a variety of instruments including a real drum set! Campers will learn the basics to becoming a professional drummer, and get the chance to work together to create their own songs!

We’ll read of her subsequent adventures, too, and then we’ll create crafts and sample some Madeleines. Whew! Rising Kindergarten students must be enrolled in morning FunCamp to register for this class.

How many painters can you name that don’t use brushes? Well I can think of at least one more, now that you are joining our class. This will be a thrilling week where we find creative ways to make masterpieces that everyone will love. Shhh… Don’t tell your kids, but we will be creating paintings using our feet, melted crayons, water guns and even bubbles. Did I mention that we will even be creating our own paint? I can’t wait to see what we come up with.

Ever wanted to play soccer while holding a cup of water? Have you tried to be a human robot and have to make your way out of the most complicated maze in the world? Would you like to engage in a game of Skip-It Kick Ball? This is the camp for you! Play some of the silliest and sappiest games this side of The Wide World of Sports!

STEM Challenge: Build It! 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.Olivia Claiborn Class Fee: $125Grades: T1–5 Enrollment: 12

Calling all builders for a new STEM challenge camp that is sure to test your construction and problem solving skills! Young builders will design, plan, and construct their own creative STEM projects, in order to solve different problems found in the world around us. Using everyday materials and trial and error, these builders will put their plans to the test. Are you up to the STEM challenge?

Super Star Artists Camp 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.Olivia Claiborn Class Fee: $125Grades: T1–5 Enrollment: 12

Make sure you bring a smock and your creative spirit to the Super Star Artists camp! Students will learn about some of the most famous artists from around the world. We will learn about the countries from which they came, what inspired them as young artists, and how they became popular artists. Their work will inspire our young artists to create pieces with the same style and experiment with similar mediums the artists used. Some of the “Super Stars” include O’Keefe, Gaudi, Pollock, Picasso, Warhol, Matisse, Kahlo and more!

Yoga1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.Cherry Fowler Class Fee: $125Grades: T1–5 Enrollment: 12

Let’s play yoga! Children will have FUN learning yoga poses and breathing techniques through stories and games. They’ll help make their own lavender eye pillows for Savasana (relaxation) to take home at the end of camp along with yoga folders. They’ll have developed strength and flexibility, increased focus and concentration, built self-esteem and confidence, and learned to relax!

This class is for rising Kindergarten and T1 students who are attending FunCamp.

Get into the groove of things! This camp is to learn the how to play like Mozart, Beethoven, and even Adele and Bruno Mars! From classical to pop and even to jazz and rock, campers will learn about the history of keyboards and famous composers. You’ve been elected mayor and urban planner of your own simulated city. Students will plan, build and govern an electric city. Will yours be a tech hub? Weird and artsy? Maybe a business capital? Students will learn about infrastructure, populations and all the little variables that

make a city thrive or decline. And because no city lives in a vacuum, each student in the class will be a part of a larger region. Students will be able to interact with their classmates’ neighboring cities. Perhaps they team up and share resources. Or maybe they’ll try to outdo each other in a limited regional economy.
