Workers’ Compensation is a system which requires your employer to pay your medical costs and part of your lost wages if you are injured on the job.

Workers’ Compensation also mandates the payment of benefits to dependents in the case of work related death.

University Vehicles$2,500 deductible for damage

100% liability coverage w/ NO deductible

No coverage for vehicles > 7-years old

Proof of University self-insurance must be carried in the vehicle at all times!

Observe University transportation guidelines – training is mandatory! May NOT be used by non-university drivers!

Rented vehicles for business use…Covered if pre-approved by travel authorization or purchase order

NO coverage for personal use

$2,500 deductible for damage

100% liability coverage w/ NO deductible

Optional insurance NOT reimbursed by the University

If you allow a non-university driver to use your rental vehicle it is 100% at your personal risk

DO NOT rent vehicles for non-university drivers!

What About My Own Car?There is NO University coverage for personal vehicles of employees when used for work-related activities; employees must carry their own insurance.

Mysterious disappearance excluded

Costs covered only if replaced

Caveats:The University can assign ALL claim costs to the responsible department if it is determined that there was negligence on the part of the department in following prudent risk control practices.

Activity outside the course and scope of employment, including the results of criminal behavior, is specifically excluded from coverage.

So… what does Risk Management Support include?

Risk Management – assistance in determining hazards, investigating less-hazardous alternatives, suggesting means to reduce or eliminate risk, and evaluate effectiveness of programs

Emergency Management – aiding in the response to incidents that threaten University resources

Insurance/Claims – providing support to the UA system related to damage and/or injury

Contract Review – evaluating contract verbiage to ascertain University exposure and coverage

Environmental Health & Safety – ensure compliance with State, Federal, and local regulatory requirements
