DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD SKETCHES AND DRAFTING

This presentation consists of the lead up to my final double page spread. It includes sketches

as well as the numerous amount of drafts I created in order to come up with my final copy.

SKETCHESPresented here are the sketches that I drew in order to help me plan for my double page spread article. However not all were fulfilled and extra creative ideas came along with editing.

I also made ICT sketches of the layouts of my double page spread, I also involved photographs and a title for the beginning of the article.

After doing the drafts I have opted to use this layout as it’s much more simplistic and looks less cluttered than the others. The next slides will show the drafting process leading up towards the final product of my double page spread article.

FIRST DRAFTS

For the first couple of drafts for my double page spread I focused on organising the positioning of the text that will be present. From the first example given on the previous slides I included the fact that the article was mentioned on the front cover as well as the contents page as a feature so I included that it was an underground magazine exclusive. In addition I positioned the title of the article lower and changed the colour of it to red, furthermore the introduction of the article I placed underneath it, positioned it to the right and changed the colour to black, in addition I added a black rectangle and in the centre of it reads who took the photographs as well as who wrote the article.

SECOND DRAFT

Next I started to add the image I found most suitable for the double page spread. Although I decided to edit it to make it a bit more creative as you can be as versatile as possible when it comes to imagery on the double page spread. So using the software Photoshop I selected the model’s exterior and copied it then cut it so I was left with just the background of the photograph. Next I added a Gaussian blur to the image allowing the background to be blurred and then pasted the image back into place. I done this as it allows you to focus more on the model, so your concentration is on him rather than the background of the image.

THIRD DRAFT

For the third and final draft of my double page spread magazine I decided to include pop out quotes from the article that will be presented on the page. I done this as it allows the readers to possibly get to grips with what the article is about and persuade them to read the whole article rather than just skipping through to the next possible page.

FINAL DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD

This is the final copy of my double page spread article. To finish off my last bit of drafting I included the article for the exclusive, in addition I made the letter of the beginning of the start of every paragraph bold and bigger that the rest of the article as this is a common style that is used in some magazine double page spread articles. In addition I added a rectangle with promotional information in it for the fans of the artist. Lastly I would say this is a successful double page spread article as the image goes with the title, it does look rather confrontational although he is ready to reveal something which is exactly what I was looking for as an end result.
