Pollination
• The transfer of pollen from the anthers to the stigma.
• Cross or self-pollination• Flower is wind or insect
pollinated• Anthers contain pollen,
which contain male gametes. Ovary contains female gametes
Fertilization
• Pollen make tube to ovary by secreting enzymes
• One gamete can only fertilize one female gamete
• When the gametes fuse, zygote is formed
• Fertilization has taken place
The Fruit
• Ovary becomes fruit, shielding the seed
• The seeds are dispersed by animals, water or air
• The seeds grow to become a plant
• Thus, the cycle shown is repeated
