Introduction
When you have selected the most suitable product to treat or vaccinate your livestock, it is also very important to select the correct equipment for its administration.
There is guidance on the administration route and dose size etc on the product data sheet and also from your SQP/vet.
Selecting the correct equipment will help ensure maximum efficacy of the product and help to minimise secondary problems such as ineffective underdosing or costly overdosing. Correct product selection will also help in reducing potential needle‑stick injuries to yourself and potential infections and disease transmission amongst your livestock.
This leaflet provides information on the devices available and also their maintenance and storage.

How to clean the dosing guns and injectorsFlush through with hot, soapy water. The barrels and some other components can be unscrewed, removed and cleaned, after which, flush through with clean water. Ideally this should be cooled, boiled water. This helps prevent contamination of the product you are next administering.
Alternatively you can use cold water sterilising tablets (type used for babies’ bottles) to clean the devices, but again flush through with clean water afterwards.
Do not steam, boil or microwave plastic dosing guns or injectors as this may affect the function of the device.
Maintenance of dosing guns and injectorsAlways ensure that the equipment you are using is either new or clean. Dirty equipment may cause infections in your livestock or inactivate the product you are administering.
If you are planning to re‑use equipment always ensure that you clean it immediately and thoroughly after use. It is essential to do this before the product dries out and affects the barrel and valves.
After flushing and cleaning, rinse with cooled, boiled water
Use only hot, soapy water to flush through components, then rinse
Before dosing, ensure that equipment is either new or clean and dry
Use cold water sterilising tablets to clean devices, and then flush with water

Lubricate the O-ringUnscrew the barrel and add a couple of drops of vegetable (NOT mineral) oil onto the plunger O‑ring to re‑lubricate it.
StorageReassemble the device and pack into a bag and seal to prevent contamination.
Store in a safe, cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
Before useRe‑clean, re‑lubricate and check the function of the device before use. If you are in doubt as to the cleanliness or function of your equipment it should not be used.
Dispose of all items in accordance with local regulations.
Multi-dose Syringe, Needle Protector & Cleaning SystemSterimatic system consists of a needle guard and Stericap which attach onto many standard multi‑dose syringes. The system has been designed to take the worry out of giving injections by automatically cleaning and protecting the needle.
