Dorothy Newton, the former wife of three-time Super Bowl champion Nate Newton, is the author of Silent Cry: The True Story of Abuse and Betrayal of an NFL Wife (Zondervan, Released 10/6/15, ISBN 978-0-310-34484-1).

Dorothy was raised in poverty by her mother and stepfather near New Orleans, Louisiana. The oldest of six children, she put herself through college on a volleyball scholarship from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology and Business.

Growing up, Dorothy witnessed her stepfather physically and verbally abuse her mother and promised herself that she would never be in such a marriage, yet like so many others, she repeated her mother’s pattern. Shortly after college, Dorothy married Nathaniel (Nate) Newton, now a retired Dallas Cowboy. After they got married, Nate grew violent and Dorothy eventually filed for divorce to protect herself.

Today, Dorothy holds an M.B.A. and is a Practice Administrator for a health care organization. She is the proud mother of two boys—Nathaniel Newton III (Tre’) and Nate King Newton.

She is a frequent host on Daystar Television Network’s “Joni Table Talk” and has appeared on numerous television and radio programs to address the topic of abuse.

Dorothy, an active member of Gateway Church in Southlake Texas, is a Christian speaker, a Bible study leader and serves on the Advisory Board of the Life of a Single Mom Ministries. She has worked with many organizations including Jack & Jill of America, SASO (Scholars & Athletes Serving Others) and Presbyterian Homeless Night Shelter.

From poverty to the pinnacle of success, this is the extraordinary memoir of a woman’s silent suffering at the abusive hands of her much-loved celebrity husband.

On the outside, Dorothy Newton appeared to live a dream life. She was married to a handsome, successful, famous professional athlete, Nate Newton—three time Super Bowl Champion, six time Pro-Bowler with the Dallas Cowboys.

The world did not see her suffering behind closed doors—betrayed, abused, and alone, crying silent tears that no one heard.

A gripping story throughout, Silent Cry a testament to Dorothy’s will to live, and the peace that comes with hope in the God who sees and hears your silent tears—even when no one else does.
