Dorothy Mae Tannery “Maw-Maw Dot” Wilkerson, 92, was born on June 19, 1925, to Nannie Mae Meador and Clifton Tannery, in Alto, Texas, and went to be with the Lord on March 26, 2018. Dorothy was raised in San Augustine, Texas, where her claim to fame was to have her name and picture on the label of her daddy’s mattress company, “Dorothy Mae Mattress Company”.

Dorothy moved to Beaumont in 1950. She then went to work as a telephone operator and a few years later started working at White’s Automotive in the post office where she was often referred to as the “Post Office Lady”. She ended her working career retiring from a local bank.

She was a member of North End Baptist Church since the early 1950’s.

Dorothy was a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many. She raised three boys on her own (which was no easy task). Dorothy loved her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, spending time outdoors, and was always ready to go on vacation.

She is survived by her sons, Randy Wilkerson and his wife, Tammy and Mike Wilkerson and his wife, Judy, all of Lumberton; and Jay Wilkerson and his wife, Elaine, of Sour Lake; grandchildren, Jason Wilkerson and his wife, Anna, of Mound, Minnesota; Kristin Hunt and her husband, Jason, of Austin; Corby Brooks and her husband, Kody, of Cypress; Dustin Wilkerson and his wife, Cassie, of Lumberton; Kendall Wilkerson, of Carrollton; Travis Wilkerson, of Beaumont; and Lennon Wilkerson, of Lumberton; six great-grandchildren; and special friend, Bill Monpitete, of Winnetka, Washington.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, Nannie Mae and Clifton Tannery; and twelve brothers and sisters.

Mom always said from an early age when her Daddy cranked up the car, she was in it ready to go. So, on March 26, 2018, she heard Daddy crank the car, and she jumped in for eternity. The family would like to thank the staff at Summer Place for their love and care for our Mother.
