We are proud to name Dowen Jocson as the 2021 Dorothy L. Simpson Leadership Award recipient. Dowen came to Washington State University in August 2018 to pursue her PhD in Entomology after receiving a MS in Biology from Saint Louis University. Her research at WSU is pioneering the use of acoustics to disrupt mating in pear psylla, which can potentially alleviate increasing use of pesticides. She hopes to provide a good foundation for this research before she graduates in 2025. She is president of the Entomology Graduate Student Association, she served as a liaison to WSU faculty, and she has mentored and trained many women and underrepresented minorities in STEM.
