THINGS TO DO

SPA Spread across five acres of gorgeous tropical scenery, the Ritz-Carlton’s Spa Botánico is the perfect spot to unwind. The treatments highlight organic ingredients and traditional Caribbean techniques, bolstered by al fresco treehouse massage rooms. Be sure to stop by the men’s and women’s Purification Gardens, where lush vegetation encloses hot and cold pools, waterfall showers and steam rooms.

GOLF

+ East Course (located at Dorado Beach Resort) – An 18-hole beautifully restored by Robert Trent Jones, Jr. to his father’s original design and boasting ocean panoramas and native sands.

SPECIAL NOTE: A group forecaddie is required.

+ Sugarcane Course (located at Dorado Beach Resort) – The most challenging of the three due to bunkers, rivers and lakes. + Pineapple Course (located at Dorado Beach Resort) – An easier 18-hole option with shallower bunkers and large greens.

BEACHES

+ Encanto Beach (located at Dorado Beach Resort) – man-made wave crash barrier creates an excellent option for kids + Barlovento Beach (located at Dorado Beach Resort) – water sports equipment rentals (paddleboards, wind surfing, kayaks, surfboards) + Luquillo beaches (located 60 minutes away) – best for a day trip, numerous sandy beaches

DESTINATION HIGHLIGHT Fashioned after a traditional Puerto Rican sugar mill, Dorado Beach Resort’s Watermill is a $12 million aquatic playground and is a magnet for visitors of all ages. Among the highlights are two thrilling 30-foot waterslides, a lazy river channel with wave machine, multiple pools for adults and refreshments served to your lounge chair. Special Note: The Watermill is only open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends and some holidays. Check the hours with your Destination Concierge.

FAMILY Founded by Jean-Michel Cousteau (son of legendary marine conservationist Jacques Cousteau), the Ritz-Carlton’s Ambassadors of the Environment program introduces youngsters to Puerto Rico’s stunning underwater worlds via hands-on learning. Kids and adults of all ages can learn about the local flora and fauna on hikes and snorkeling adventures.

MUST-DO At Bioluminescent Bay in Fajardo, millions of luminescent dinoflagellates—tiny plankton-like organisms—light up when disturbed by movements, creating an almost supernatural glow amid the mangrove cays and islets from spectacular channels. A kayak tour lasts about one-and-a-half to two hours.

PVA’s TIP: The glow is best seen on moonless nights.

ROMANTIC A couple’s massage is a classic romantic activity—and for good reason. Spa Botánico’s serene setting was perhaps tailor-made for relaxing with that special someone. The therapists are happy to arrange a special dual massage just for the two of you.

THINGS TO DO

ADVENTURE Zip lining through a jungle canopy takes you to new heights, but the zip line at Toro Verde ecological adventure park takes it one step further: It’s one of the highest and longest zip lines in the entire world. Located in the thick of the jungle, the exhilaration is rivaled only by the natural rush of the verdant surroundings.

NATURE Thick with exotic vegetation and animals, the Yunque National Rainforest is one of Puerto Rico’s crown jewels. Connect with a tour guide who can help you navigate the wild frontier, which includes more than 23 miles of hiking trails, observation towers with 360-degree views, waterfalls, and unparalleled biodiversity. Open daily from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

LOCAL A day trip to the Luquillo area brings you to a series of beaches, each with their own personality and quirks. You can also take a quick, 35-minute jaunt to Isla Verde just off the coast, where you will find even more beaches and entertainment.

DC’s TIP: Abundant kiosks offer snacks and drinks, but if you want to avoid the crowds, stay farther south.

RECOMMENDED RESTAURANTSFAMILY El Ladrillo (located in Dorado) – Steak is the star at El Ladrillo: Dine on sirloin, T-bone, filet mignon and other prime cuts. The interior proudly displays local artwork, and you can’t leave without trying one of the traditional homemade desserts.

ROMANTIC Positivo Sand Bar (located at the Ritz Carlton in Dorado Beach) – A table for two, on the sand, with a vibrant sunset or full moon igniting the sky is a dreamy background for an al fresco dinner. Order a signature cocktail to see the bartenders’ elaborate skills in action.

Page 5: DORADO BEACH, PUERTO RICO - Inspirato...Your Destination Concierge will greet you at your residence If you plan to arrive early or check out late, please let your Destination Concierge

RECOMMENDED RESTAURANTSFINE DINING Marmalade (located in Old San Juan) – Though Marmalade’s menu spans an eclectic range of cuisine – anything from raw, vegan dishes to seafood and foie gras – the focus hones in on organic produce from small, local farmers whenever possible.

DC’s TIP: Try out the chef’s best creations with the Group Tasting Menu for tables of six or more.

LOCAL El Capitan (located in Dorado) – Think flan can only be made one way? Taste-test the range of flan flavors you can find at El Capitan. The traditional dessert is a delicious conclusion to a Latin seafood feast.
