Q. What do snowmen eat for breakfast?
A. Snowflakes
At last week’s session, Jennifer arrived after everyone had started and thought I said the cartoon subject was the
Food Band. She had completed her Food Band cartoon before I noticed the error. We both had a good laugh and she went on to produce a very good Food Bank cartoon.
Trying to fit Christmas shopping in on top of taking the kids to hockey practice and music lessons,
I find we end up stopping for a burger 2 or 3 times a week. I know that’s not healthy. Do you have any
suggestions for a family on the run?
December is definitely a busy month and if you find yourself eating on the run, there are lots of healthier fast food choices these days than burgers and fries. Most fast food places have a healthy options menu. A burger and fries has 6 times the calories and 10 times the fat as a grilled chicken salad with low calorie dressing. Stick to grilled chicken, not breaded or crispy, as they are usually deep fried. Fish burgers have even more fat than a burger because they are deep fried and absorb a lot of oil. Pitas, wraps, subs or meat salads are a much healthier way to go and just as fast, just keep in mind to choose whole wheat over white breads.

Simplify Your Christmas This Yearhttp://www.celebrating-christmas.com
Christmas is traditions.Every year you promise yourself that you’ll stay calm and truly enjoy the season, yet when the most enjoyable activities are crowded into an already-tight schedule, they often conflict and overwhelm. Consider your overinflated “to-do” list. Are there tasks on that list you could do without? Try this easy way to find out.Make a second list titled “It Wouldn’t Be Christmas Without ...” Write down all the traditions, foods, and activities that make the holidays special for your family. Now compare the lists. Anything not on both lists is expendable, a task or event you can decide to do on a selective basis--only if you have the time and only if you want to. So this year, make the gingerbread house with your kids, but don’t host a neighborhood party. Next year you can give the party and skip something else.If it’s your turn to host the family holiday dinner, start a new tradition and simplify. You do the main course, and ask each family member to bring something for the dinner.
Christmas is memories. No other holiday is so strongly etched in the mind of a child, yet gifts are not the part of Christmas a child remembers most. Giving them an expensive video game is easy, but years, later the child remembers when they went with you to see the lighting of your town’s Christmas tree, or when you read “`Twas the Night Before Christmas” before bedtime on Christmas Eve. Think back to your own C h r i s t m a s memories, and you’ll probably recall things like baking cookies with G r a n d m a , s t r i n g i n g popcorn and cranberries for tree decorations, and singing in the church choir that mean Christmas to you.

Great News
The newlywed wife said to her husband when he returned from work, “I have great news for you. Pretty soon, we’re going to be three in this house instead of two.”
Her husband ran to her with a smile on his face and delight in his eyes.
He was glowing of happiness and kissing his wife when she said, “I’m so glad that you feel this way. My mother moves in with us tomorrow.”
Golden Wedding Anniversary
An aged farmer and his wife were leaning against the edge of their pig-pen when the old woman wistfully recalled that the next week would mark their Golden Wedding Anniversary.
“Let’s have a big party, Homer,” she suggested. “You’ll need to roast a pig.”
The farmer scratched his grizzled head. “Gee, Ethel,” he finally answered, “I don’t see why the pig should take the blame for something that happened fifty years ago.”

Home Improvement Tips:
Q: A few years ago, I had renovations done in my kitchen & having not realized that the installation of a back splash was not part of having kitchen cupboards installed, I was left without a back splash of any kind. I have left over laminate that was used as counter top, can I use that? I was thinking 6-8 inches high, but wondering what to use to make it adhere & what to use as edging.
~ Jo Tennant
A: Jo,
You can use just a laminate as a back splash. You would hold it to the wall with a contact cement, and we do have a panel edge available in white that you could use for the edges. You could also build the backsplash out from the wall with a strip of 5/8 or 3/4 K3 and adhere the laminate to this with contact cement. This would allow you to finish the top and edges with more laminate. If you have any further questions, do not hesitate to stop by or give us a call.
