Confirmation 2015 The Archbishop was with us on Saturday 16th May when he confirmed twenty young people from the parish in St Columba’s Church, Swords. The newly confirmed are Sam Ennis, Jamie Ferguson, David Anderson, William Ovuike, Aaron Browne, Amy Cooley, Alexander, Samuel and Isaac Findley, Chloe Kelly, Penny McCarthy, Mirabel Ofobuike, Katie Foley, Rory Govan, Joshua Denner, Christopher Watts, Noah Carberry, Robert Blake, Conor Maddy and Richard Bolton. They were joined by their parents, god-parents and families which resulted in a full church, thereby swelling the singing and congregational responses. Afterwards, there were opportunities to take photographs of the newly confirmed with the Archbishop, and then it was off to celebrate! We continue to pray for these newly confirmed young people, in the hope they will be blessed in their ministry in the church in years to come.
BEREAVEMENT
We extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to three families who
have been bereaved recently:
to Deirdre Moore and her family, following the death of her husband
Tony, whose service of celebration for his life was held in Glasnevin
Crematorium on Saturday 25th April, followed by cremation;
to Catherine Daly and her family, following the death of her son, Femi, in
Wexford, whose funeral service was held on Thursday 20th April, in St
Iberius’ Church, Wexford, followed by burial in Castlebridge Cemetery;
and to Lenore Alcorn and her family, following the death of her father,
Gus, whose funeral service in Glasnevin Crematorium on Friday 1st May
followed by cremation;
May I also take this opportunity to correct an error which appeared in the
April edition of the Newsletter in respect of condolences offered to Joan
Burnby’s family. Her husband is Cliff and not Chris as reported, and for
the error I take full responsibility, and apologise (RWD).
May the souls of the faithful departed in the mercy of God rest in peace,
and rise in glory.
NOTELETS & ENVELOPES Two very attractive sets of notelets (and envelopes), beautifully presented in packets of seven, are available for purchased at the back of St Columba’s Church, Swords, at the very affordable price of just €5.00 per packet (in aid of parish funds). The last few are still available, but may not last long!
DON’T MISS OUT!

Like last year, Christ Church Cathedral will again be transformed into a floral arcadia from 19-21 June.
There will be displays of creative floral designs and a range of fun activities for all the family, and talks from renowned gardening experts.
This year, flower arranging competitions at different levels will be run. One of the competition levels is the Diocesan Competition where individual parishes across the United Dioceses submit arrangements for judging. Other categories are Open Call, Under 7s, and 8-12s.
Entry forms may be picked up in Swords and Donabate churches or by going on-line to the Cathedral web-page, searching under “Events” and downloading them. You’ll also find more details about the Festival (times, viewings and charges) may be found.

N.B. The Deficits in the years 2009-2014 were financed from funds accumulated for specific purposes in the Parish. These have now been fully used up and your Parish faces serious financial difficulties unless income is increased.

7 YEAR SUMMARY
Out of the mouths … ! (continued from last month … )
The following are submitted as answers children gave to
questions about the Old and New Testaments. If you know the
Bible even a little, you’ll find the answers hilarious! Just
imagine trying to keep a straight face and correcting them.
They haven’t been retouched or corrected, and incorrect
spellings have been left as written.
11. MOSES DIED BEFORE HE EVER REACHED CANADA
THEN JOSHUA LED THE HEBREWS IN THE BATTLE OF
GERITOL.
12. THE GREATEST MIRICLE IN THE BIBLE IS WHEN
JOSHUA TOLD HIS SON TO STAND STILL AND HE
OBEYED HIM.
13. DAVID WAS A HEBREW KING WHO WAS SKILLED
AT PLAYING THE LIAR. HE FOUGHT THE
FINKELSTEINS, A RACE OF PEOPLE WHO LIVED IN
BIBLICAL TIMES.
14. SOLOMON, ONE OF DAVIDS SONS, HAD 300 WIVES
AND 700 PORCUPINES.
15. WHEN MARY HEARD SHE WAS THE MOTHER OF
JESUS, SHE SANG THE MAGNA CARTA.
Services in July and August Just to note to say that during July and August, when many people will be on holiday and away, there will be no FAMILY SERVICE in Donabate, and no BANGERS@MASH, KIZ OWN and LE CHÉILE Services. They will all resume at their regular slots in September!
