It has become tradition for marriedcouples to jet off on a post-weddingvacation. This honeymoon is a way forthe bride and groom to enjoy quiettime together and start off their mar-ried life together on an intimate level.Although the word "honeymoon" hashappy connotations today, the origi-nal meanings of the word may not beso blissful. There are varying ac-counts of the evolution of the word"honeymoon," but many believe it tobe a Norse tradition deriving from theword "hjunottsmanathr." NorthernEuropean history describes womenbeing abducted from their familiesand forced into marriage with a man
from a neighboring village. This hus-band would take his new bride intohiding and stay there for a while untilit was certain the bride's family hadgiven up the hunt and retreated. Itwas also tradition for Scandinaviancouples to drink a sweet, honey-in-fused wine known as mead for amonth after getting married. This maybe where the "honey," for the sweetdrink, and the"moon," for the one-month period of time, originated. Oth-ers say "honeymoon" refers to a sar-castic quip that a marriage starts outsweet as honey, but then wanes muchas the moon will each cycle.

Despite the months of planning and por-ing over every minute detail of a wedding,it has often been said that what people re-member most about wedding receptions isthe food and if they had fun. Therefore, in-stead of worrying about choosing Jordanalmonds over chocolate truffles, orwhether the cake should have an extratier, couples may want to pay more atten-tion to selecting their reception menus.
Although certain foods are wedding sta-ples, it could pay for couples to think withtheir stomachs instead of their headswhen selecting wedding day fare. Having aselection of foods that taste as good asthey look is a wise idea over having certainfoods simply because they are trendy.
Whether you are cooking yourself, hav-ing a family member serve as chef or rely-ing on the menu of the reception hall,
think about foods that will please guestsand select those items, regardless of thembeing fancy. Here are some other tips.
* You want foods to be filling but not somuch so that guests have to waddle to thedance floor. If you're planning on severalcourses, keep portion sizes small to offer ataste of the different items offered.
* Classic foods can work well as weddingfare. Roasts, barbecued meats and fa-vorite pasta dishes can make guests feellike they're dining at someone's home andnot at a wedding.
* Choose items people have heard of. In-stead of tornadoes of beef, select a heartyprime rib. Just because a dish soundsfancy doesn't make it taste better. If aguest doesn't know what he or she is eat-ing, it can be uncomfortable. Now is notthe time to experiment with exotic foods,
either. Otherwise, some picky eaters maybe left hungry.
* Think about the foods you love and see ifthey can be incorporated at the wedding. Al-though a breakfast bar at an evening eventmay seem funny, waffles and omelets mayappeal to a greater number of guests than agourmet fish creation.
* Don't make vegetarians an after-thought. Too often, vegetarians must eatwhatever the kitchen can pull together, which is usually a compilation of the veg-etable garnishes from the meat dishes.Make an effort to have a true vegetariandish that is intricate and delicious.
* Mashed potatoes are a crowd pleaser.Serve little portions of mashed potatoes incocktail glasses and enable guests to top asthey see fit with bacon bits, cheese or chives.
* No idea is silly, and serving any type of
food in a hors d'oeuvre style can make itacceptable at a formal affair, whether thatfood is pizza or caviar-topped crackers.
* Just because it isn't on the menu does-n't mean it cannot be prepared. Talk to thecatering manager and let him or her knowyour preferences. Provided you're willingto pay a little more, there's a good chanceyou can have items that aren't on thestandard catering menu.
* Think outside the box for your cocktailhour "bars." A bread bar, a dipping sta-tion, milk and cookies service, or vegetablebar are options that go against the stan-dard cheese and pasta stations.
Although it's your wedding, ultimatelythe goal is to please the guests. By choos-ing foods they will love and rave about, you're guaranteed positive remarks onyour wedding.

Barbecuing isn't just for the lazydays of summer. Delicious grilledmeals are easy to prepare year-round.Here are a few tips for winter barbe-cuing that are important to rememberbefore you get the snow shovel out.* Always pre-heat your barbecue.
Pre-heat to 400o F -- 450o F at mini-mum, and adjust the temperaturefrom there. Remember, if food doesn'tsizzle when you put it on the grill, your barbecue is not hot enough.* If you are grilling with charcoal,
include more charcoal for increasedpre-heating time and extra heatwhile grilling.* Cooking times may change with ex-
treme cold. Always use an instantread thermometer to ensure thatfoods are cooked thoroughly.* Grill with the lid down. Heat loss
on a cold day is significantly greaterthan a warm summer day, and keep-ing your barbecue at a consistenttemperature will be very difficult withthe lid open.* When grilling on a windy day, try
to reduce your exposure to the wind.If grilling at lower temperatures, keepan eye on your barbecue to ensure
that it does not blow out. If you doneed to move your barbecue out ofthe wind, keep minimum clearancesin mind to avoid damaging your deckor home.* Clear a work area around your bar-
becue. This won't impact cookingtime, but having enough room towork without filling your boots withsnow makes for a much more enjoy-able barbecue experience and avoidsany untimely slips or falls.* Several lighting options are avail-
able. Some barbecues have built inlighting, and add-on handle lights areavailable so you're not grilling in thedark. Broil King offers a variety oflighting options for their barbecues.* Never use your barbecue indoors,
in your garage or in an enclosed area.Carbon Monoxide accumulation, acci-dental fire damage, and smoke dam-age are all possible -- it's not worththe risk.More information on grilling and
great recipe ideas is available atwww.broilkingbbq.com.Clear off that barbecue and get
grilling!

There are many thingsthe public knows aboutSaint Patrick's Day, butthere's much they maynot know about the holi-day or Irish-Americanheritage for that matter. Here are some facts andtrivia that might surpriseeven the most devoted ofPatty's Day revelers.
* Despite St. Patrick beingalive centuries earlier, St.Patrick's Day celebrationsdidn't begin until 1737.
* More people of Irishheritage live in the UnitedStates than currently livein all of Ireland. Irish-Americans living statesidepredominantly reside inthe North Atlantic states.
* Saint Patrick angeredthe Celtic Druids manytimes by converting pa-gans to Christianity. TheDruids put him in jail onnumerous occasions.
* Green is not the officialcolor affiliated with SaintPatrick. It is really blue. However, green became afamiliar hue during thenineteenth century morefor being associated withthe magic of Irish legendsthan Saint Patrick himself.
* The three-leaf shamrockhas more historical signifi-cance with regards to SaintPatrick's day than a four-leaf clover. That's becausethe three leaves were be-lieved to be used by St.Patrick to explain theChristian doctrine of theHoly Trinity, where God ex-ists as three persons.
* For 67 years, SaintPatrick's Day was a "dry"holiday in Ireland. JamesO'Mara, a member of Irishparliament, introduced abill in 1903 that made SaintPatrick's Day a religiousholiday in the country. Therefore, local pubs wereobligated to close. The lawwas overturned in 1970.
* According to their Website, Hallmark has beenselling green Saint
Patrick's Day cards sincethe early 1920s, now sell-ing as many as 15 millionannually.
* Contrary to popular be-lief, Ireland does not top
the list with respect toshowing Irish pride.New York City boaststhe largest parade hon-oring the holiday andIrish heritage.

Dear God,Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York,
Washington D.C., Iowa and just recently New Jersey, according to my re-search, are the states that have passed laws to give same sex couples theright to marry. It seems as though there has been a great debate over thepast several years on this topic. My question is: What is the Biblical truthin regard to this issue?
Nancy
Dear Nancy,It seems as though this issue is heavy on the hearts of many in this
world today. I must continue my response when I answered the devotedGiants Fan a few weeks ago. My Word, the Bible, is the instruction bookfor all mankind. There is no respect of person. The Words I speak areTruth and many times offensive to those who choose evil over good.
To understand My purpose for mankind, one must have faith to believethat I AM who I AM; the Beginning and the End, the authority of all thatexists. It is not mother nature or father time neither is it world govern-ments or the law makers. It was I, who created all things; the heavens, the earth, mankind and all that exist today and I have set everything inmotion. Without faith in Who I AM it is impossible to understand the lovethat I have for every individual. And that love has been from everlastingto everlasting. It will never stop.
I am not pleased when mankind suppress the truth in unrighteousness. They did not see fit to acknowledge Me as God in times past nor in thispresent day. Therefore I have given them over to a depraved mind, to dothose things which are not proper. Why? Because I have given mankind afree will to choose. It is their choice to choose good or evil. The biblicaltruth in regard to same sex marriage is as follows:
Then the LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone; I willmake him a helper suitable for him… So the LORD God caused a deepsleep to fall upon the man, and he slept; then He took one of his ribs andclosed up the flesh at that place. The LORD God fashioned into a womanthe rib which He had taken from the man, and brought her to the man...For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joinedto his wife; and they shall become one flesh.”
Marriage is the first institution that I have set up for mankind; that aman and a woman come together as one, each meeting the needs of theother, which is the natural thing. There is no other way. Those whochoose otherwise have an unbelieving heart; a heart and mind that sup-press the truth. They exchange the truth of God for a lie. Women exchang-ing the natural function for that which is unnatural, and in the same wayalso the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burnedin their desire towards one another, men with men committing indecentacts. They choose not to acknowledge Me as God and give hearty approvalto those who practice the same.
Other statements or beliefs about same sex marriage that you mighthear about is nothing other than a lie from the father of lies, the deceiv-er; satan himself.
Your Loving, Merciful, Forgiving and Creator of Justice,
GOD
