14th August 2013 Doire Nuis GAC Weekly Bulletin Page 1 Under 10 – Donal Powell Tournament The Under 10s attended the Donal Powell on Saturday and with their recent form had every reason going into the competition that they could do very well. Derrynoose were drawn in a very tough group with Clan Eireann, Mooretown (Tyrone), Wolfe Tones, Ballymacnab and Grange. The Derrynoose lads started well and won their first match in a very tight and tense affair against Mooretown wining 4-3. Next up was Grange and they won this match very easily (11-1). They then beat a very plucky Ballymacnab team by 6 points to 3. The big match came against Clan Eireann (the eventual winners of the Donal Powell Cup). It was nip and tuck the whole match with Clan Eireann winning by a solitary point (4-3).The last match was against Wolfe Tones, a match Derrynoose was expected to win comfortably. However, despite being 2 points up towards the end of the game, Wolfe Tones scored two late points to draw the match. It then came down to the last match; Clan Eireann had to do Derrynoose a favour by beating Mooretown. However, Mooretown man- aged to get a draw and snatch a top 2 finish from Derrynoose based on points differential. Heart breaking for the team as they put in a very gutsy display throughout the competition (albeit not playing their best football by any means), losing only one game to the eventual winners of the competition. Both Mooretown and Clan Eireann won their respective semi-finals easily and Clan Eireann went on to win the Donal Powell Cup easy enough against Kileavey. The team can be very proud of their efforts but the small pitch and 11-aside just nullified the potent threat that Derrynoose have up front, which they have showed time and time again in Go Games this year on a bigger pitch. Everyone gave it their all but a special mention to Jack Fox, whose ability to win his own ball around the middle and his free- taking was of the highest order; time and time again he kicked points from very difficult angles to get Derrynoose’s head in front when they looked beaten at time.. In the back, Eddie Mc Gurgan played well alongside the Thomas Farrell, Patrick Nugent, Ben Hughes and Anthony Keenan who played very well. The backs done well throughout the tournament with the biggest score against the team in any match being 4 points. In the middle, Conall Burke and Oisin Woods tried hard. Up front, they were living of scraps in very congested surroundings but you could ask any more from Shane McGrane, Cian McMullen and Dylan Mone who all tried extremely hard for their team. The subs played well when they got a chance with Maeve Lennon, Aideen Farrell, Daniel Boyle and Dylan Heavin showing well. Back Row: Mary, Teresa, Shannon, Hannah, Eimear, Catherine, Zara & Sarah Front Row: Eimear, Jaclyn, Emma, Anita, Anne, Ellen & Sarah U14 LADIES FOOTBALL Derrynoose v Silverbridge Well done to the girls as they put in a strong performance with Catherine making some fine saves early in the game and with her long kick outs Eimear and Zara were able to supply good ball to Mary and Sarah in the full forward line both girls hitting the net early on, with the help of good sup- port play from Jaclyn. Unfortunately the more experienced home team came back into the game with some well worked scores despite hard work in the full back line from Shannon and Anne. After half time Silverbridge built on their lead with some long range points, the Derrynoose girls did not give up and some great direct running from sisters Hannah and Ellen in half back line was rewarded with a great finish to the net by Anita. Teresa and Eimear McKearney combined well from a turn over ball by Emma to get another point. Although it was disap- pointing not to win it was a great per- formance especially considering many of the girls will be able to play in this age group for another two years Lotto results 09-09-13 Nos, 19, 22, 29, 32 bonus number (8).
