Does climate change

have an effect on

Why is this important?

Because it can affect the Greenlandic population.

It can affect the animal and plant life in the Greenlandic nature.

It can cause the ice sheet to melt, wich will have a global effect.

Takes measurements of the discharge and sediment transport to get a better

understanding of meltwater rivers and the glecier process

Atmospheric Carbon Levels

Current level is 390 ppm

-Has reached 400 ppm in the past year

-Exponential Growth Curve

Seasonal Fluctuation

-High in winter, low in summer

-Why?

Permafrost

What is it?

-Frozen soil (> 2 years)

-Gelisols- ”ice soils”

Why is it important?

-Carbon store

-Active layer exists on top (Cryoturbation)

Soil Profiles

Remote sensing

Classify areas

Determine depth of permafrost

Dig a soil pit (clean face)

Examine layers

Drill for permafrost

Answer

The Climatic changes does have an effect, but the effects are spread out over a longer period.
