Overview This guide provides information about the settings, text of messages, dialog boxes and error messages contained in the branding signing resource file v1.1. The information in the master signing resource file can be modified and uploaded to a brand profile for your account to customize the signing experience for your recipients. The modified file is only used by documents sent with the brand profile the file is uploaded into. Additionally, you can upload two different resource files for signing resources; one for general signing and one for captive (embedded) signing. If you upload both files, normal remote signers will see the information in the Signing resource file and captive (embedded) signers will see the information in the Captive Signing resource file. This option for using resource files for account branding is not normally enabled for an account. Contact your Account Manager to enable this option.
Important: Using resource files for account branding is an advanced option. This option should only be used by someone experienced in working with XML and HTML files. This information guide does not provide specific information about modifying XML and HTML information.
For more information on branding your account and editing your default account messages, contact your DocuSign Account Manager.
Important: Resource files are subject to change without notice. If you customize the Signing Resource file, please review the Signing Resource file with each new DocuSign release.

DocuSign Signing Resource File Information Guide v1.1
General Resource File Information Resource files are an optional method to control the text elements in your account sending view, signing view and for emails sent by your account. The ability to use the resource file option is not normally enabled for an account; contact your Account Manager or DocuSign Support for more information about enabling this option in your account.
Important: Using resource files for account branding is an advanced function. The resource files are XML files and this option should only be used if you have an experienced XML programmer available to work with your resource files. Changes to resource file must be done with an XML editor; files changed with other applications might not function correctly when uploaded to the DocuSign system.
DocuSign uses three master resource files; one for sending (DocuSign_SendResources.xml), one for signing (DocuSign_SignResources.xml), and one for email messages (DocuSign_EmailResources.xml). In addition to setting text elements, the signing resource file also controls some of the dialog boxes displayed in the signing view. To use resource files, you will download the appropriate master resource file for the information you want to change, modify the resource file and then upload your modified file to the appropriate brand profile in the DocuSign system. Once uploaded, the brand changes are implemented for the brand profile. When you upload a modified resource file, only the differences between your modified file and the master file are saved by the system. You can modify and upload one, two, or all of the master resource files to customize them for your account. If you do not upload a modified resource file, the system will use default information in the master resource file. You can upload two different resource files for signing resources; one for general signing and one for captive (embedded) signing. If you upload both files, normal remote signers will see the information in the signing resource file and captive (embedded) signers will see the information in the captive signing resource file.
Uploading and Downloading Resource Files Important: The resource files are subject to change without notice. If you customize the resource files, please review your signing views with each new DocuSign release.
This section explains how to access your account branding profile to download and upload a signing resource file for a brand profile. You can have different signing resource files for each brand profile.
1. From the New DocuSign Experience web application, click your profile image in the upper right of the console and select Go to Admin. The Preferences page is displayed.
DocuSign Signing Resource File Information Guide v1.1
If the Resource Files option does not appear then you likely do not have it enabled due to your plan. Contact your account admin to have this feature enabled.
5. In the Select Resource File Type dropdown, select Signing and then DOWNLOAD
DocuSign Signing Resource File Information Guide v1.1
6. After making changes to the resource file, select UPLOAD on Email Resource File.
a. Note: When a modified resource file is uploaded, only the elements that differ from the master resource file are saved as your resource file. There is no preview function associated with uploading Signing resource files. The example views on the Account Branding page are not updated to show changes in the resource files.
b. An account can only have one custom signing resource file and one custom captive signing resource file, so all changes for all languages must be included in the file you are uploading.
c. After uploading a custom file, the information about when and who last uploaded resource file is shown below the download button.
7. To download or edit the customer resource file, choose one of the following options:
DocuSign Signing Resource File Information Guide v1.1
Note: This option is not available if you have not uploaded a custom file.
Note: When downloading your resource files, only the modified elements are included in the file.
Signing Resource File Usage In general, the signing resource file associated with the brand profile set as the Signing DEFAULT is used for the signing experience for documents sent by the account. If a captive signing resource file was uploaded, then captive (embedded) signers will see the information in that signing resource file.
DocuSign Signing Resource File Information Guide v1.1
If your account has multiple brand profiles, users with access to multiple brand profiles can set the brand profile used when creating a template or sending documents. In this case, the signing resource file associated with the selected brand profile is used for the signing experience.
General Signing Resource File Editing Information Important: You are responsible for controlling changes to and maintaining versions of your resource files. DocuSign recommends that you export and save your brand profile information before making any modifications, so that if there are problems with the changes you can import the saved profile to restore the branding information. DocuSign only maintains the current version of your brand profile, including resource files.
When you open the resource file you can edit the data information in the resource file to change the text of messages, dialog boxes and error messages shown during the signing process. Additionally, the signing resource file can be used to show or hide some elements (such as images, text and dialog boxes) used during signing process. The information in the master signing resource file is listed alphabetically and associated information is not always in the same area of the file. When looking for information, you should search the resource file for the appropriate data name string(s). When editing a signing resource file, you can modify a master file or a custom resource file and upload the file with the changes. When saving a custom signing resource file, it is recommended that you only include the elements that are changed. The edited resource files must be saved as xml files.
Note: The text for all buttons in the signing resource file is automatically capitalized and cannot be changed to use lower or mixed case letters.
DocuSign Signing Resource File Information Guide v1.1
If you modify the resource file with changes for a specific language, you should make similar changes for all possible languages that your recipients might use. If you only make the change for one language, that change will be lost if the recipient changes languages in their browser. You can upload an edited resource file to the appropriate brand profile as a normal signing resource file or for captive (embedded) signing of for both. Once a custom resource file is uploaded, the changes are reflected in all new sessions to the signing site.
Note: If you are uploading a custom signing resource file for testing, you might need to close and reopen your browser to test the changes.
When you upload a custom resource file, only the differences between your edited file and the master file are saved by the system. Similarly, when you download your custom resource file, only the differences between the master file and your custom file are included in the downloaded file. DocuSign recommends that you test any resource file changes in your demo account before uploading it to your production account.
DocuSign Signing Resource File Information Guide v1.1
DocuSign Signing Resource File Content
This section provides information about the functions of the data lines in the master signing resource file. The colors and logos used for your signing view are set in the account branding page for your account.
Important: The information in this section is not presented in the same order as given in the master signing resource file. When changing information you might need to search the resource file for the appropriate data name string(s) to find the information. Similarly, when looking for a description of a data name string, you should search this document for that data name.
Language Settings
These lines allow you to set the languages used for a resource file or limit the languages used.
Data Name Description
language twoletterisoname= The two-letter language code html wrapper that sets the language used for the messages in this portion of the resource file. If a value is entered for this, when a signer opens a signing session with that language the settings, header text, and message text in the resource file are used. There can be multiple language wrappers in a resource file.
Note: If you modify the resource file with changes for a specific language, you should make similar changes for all possible languages that your recipients might use. If you only make the change for one language, the change will be lost if the recipient changes languages in their browser.
Example: If you want to customize the resource file text for German (de) and French (fr), you would set up the resource file as follows:
<language twoletterisoname=”de”> [specific settings for German] </language> <language twoletterisoname=”fr”> [specific settings for French] </language>
Languages_LimitTo The two-letter language code that limits the language used for the messages in this portion of the resource file. If a value is entered for this, only that language is shown when signing, no matter what the signer’s browser settings are.
