1 Introduction
1.1 Scope of the document
This document represents the iQ-WEBX WADO Administration Guide for software version 3.1.1
provided by IMAGE Information Systems Ltd.
Disclosure level of this document is PUBLIC (PUB), which means that this document is freely
available to anyone interested, such as resellers, current end users as well as potential
customers. Primary color is orange.
NOTICE The provided data was researched with the utmost care. Nevertheless, the author does not
accept any liability for the correctness, completeness and up-to-date nature of the information
contained in this document. It is the responsibility of the user or the local administrator to
verify the details by considering suitable sources. The author expressly disclaims liability for
any provided information.
1.2 Purpose of the software
iQ-WEBX WADO represents the official Web Access to DICOM Persistent Objects implementation
for iQ-WEB. Users of medical information systems require rapid and reliable access to reports
and images. Within computerized environments, such access is increasingly based on web
technologies. Access to relevant DICOM Persistent Objects is required without the need for
duplication of such data objects.
This interface, based on the jointly developed standard by ISO TC215 (Medical Informatics)/WG2
(Messages and Communications) and DICOM/WG10 (Strategy Advisory), relates exclusively to
DICOM Persistent Objects (e. g. images, series, studies, reports) and not to workflow messages.
This document describes the interface of iQ-WEBX WADO for iQ-WEB by IMAGE Information
Systems Ltd. iQ-WEBX WADO has been developed as a module for an easy access to iQ-WEB
content directly out of a medical information system and show them in the iQ-X module. Usage
of the new interface results in registering all available patient-related images/studies in the
user’s web browser. For reasons of time saving, it is possible to skip the main iQ-WEB
authentication.

5 Licensing
5.1 Licensing system
iQ-WEBX WADO does not come with a build-in trial license. You will have to apply for a trial
respectively full license.
Basically, there are the following licenses available for iQ-WEBX WADO:
A full license allows you to use iQ-WEBX WADO without any limitations regarding features
or time.
A trial license allows you to use iQ-WEBX WADO without any limitations to its features.
However, there are limitations in time. Usually, a trial license is valid for up to two weeks.
Longer periods as well as trial extensions can be applied by contacting our license team.
Trial and full licenses always depend on the system which means that a license issued for one
designated system cannot be used on another one.
5.2 Activating the software
For obtaining and activating a license via the web interface, please refer to the corresponding
section in the iQ-WEB 6.4.5 “Administration Guide” document.
For obtaining a software license manually, please send our license team your current IP

cipher block chaining (CBC) mode. AES is a symmetric encryption which uses the same key for
encryption and decryption.
The key has a length of 128 bit respectively 16 alpha-numeric characters.
By clicking the button “Create random key”, a random secret key is created and entered in the
field next to the button. This feature creates a key with a 128 bit length.
INITIALIZATION VECTOR
This value represents the initialization vector (IV) used during the AES encryption in a CBC mode.
In cryptography, an initialization vector is a fixed-size input to a cryptographic primitive that is
typically required to be random or pseudorandom. This value has to have a length of 128 bit
displayed as 32 hexadecimal characters.
ENABLE LLTT
This option activates or deactivates the check of the limited life time token. The limited life time
token is a parameter which decides whether the created WADO link is still valid or not. The
timeframe can be chosen during the link creation and might be anything from 0 to any desired
number of minutes.
USE CENTRAL CREDENTIALS
This option defines, whether iQ-WEBX WADO is forced to use the central credentials each time
somebody requests data via the interface. In case it is checked, iQ-WEBX WADO will use the
credentials entered as PACS username and PACS password above. If it is not checked, it is
possible to use individual user credentials transmitted in the URL. If it is not checked and no
credentials are transmitted in the URL, the interface will fall back and will use the central ones.
LOG LEVEL
This option defines, how detailed the log will be written. All messages will be saved in the
wado.log located under “[iQ-WEBX installation folder]\PACS\log”. The file will be created if it
does not exist.
LICENSE STATUS
This option shows whether your license file has been recognized or not. Once it has been
recognized, you can click the ”Info” link to display additional license information, such as status,
date of creation and date of expiration.

8.3 Integration with a HIS/RIS
The interface is controlled with URLs that have to be opened in a web browser. All parameters
have to be written in lower cases. The manufacture of the MIS has to implement a function that
creates the URL according to the specification above. Below, you will find some example URLs:
http://localhost/pacs/wado.php?mode=1&id_1=123456
This URL searches for the patient ID “123456”.
http://localhost/pacs/wado.php?mode=1&id_1=*123456*
This URL searches for all patients containing the string “123456” in its patient ID.
http://localhost/pacs/wado.php?mode=4&id_1=AB12G
This URL searches for all studies containing the accession number “AB12G”.
http://localhost/pacs/wado.php?mode=1&id_1=123456&viewer=2&header_off=1
This URL searches for all patients with the ID “123456” and presents the results directly in iQ-
4VIEW, while the main iQ-WEBX menu is deactivated.

Turns off the iQ-WEBX menu
Uses an individual username and password for the automatic login procedure
Uses the limited life time token to limit the validity of the URL
8.3.1 Interface configuration
To allow the interface accessing iQ-WEBX, you will have to setup a user account that will be
used. Any user account (even “root”) that has been created by iQ-WEBX is usable for the
interface. Using the “root” account is not recommended due to security reasons, because it has
full access/change rights.
8.3.2 URL design
Working with WADO requires a functioning URL with a couple of parameters delimited by a “&”.
The most important thing is that all necessary parameters have to be passed in their correct
form.
NOTICE: The order of these parameters is irrelevant so they can be interchanged in their sequence.
In general, a valid URL has to contain the hostname, port (if it differs from 80), a mode and one
or more IDs (if all additional options are disabled). For example:
http://localhost/pacs/wado.php?mode=1&id_1=123456
In case all features are enabled, the URL includes all parameters. Such an URL looks like the
following:
http://test.com:8080/pacs/wado.php?mode=1&id_1=123456&viewer=2&header_off=1&user
name=27046f519d22049f2a89d221c4575382c23e97cc3cdb73751dae3e0209d37dd2&password=e

8.3.3 Interface usage
The interface is controlled with URLs that have to be opened in a web browser. The following
chapters describes the different parts of the URL and how they can be combined.

Part one of a generated URL always consists of the main interface file. So each URL starts with
http://localhost/pacs/wado.php
It is possible to replace “localhost” with any other DNS name or IP Address from a computer
where iQ-WEBX is installed on. If you have changed the alias directive for your PACS installation,
you have to adapt the part “/pacs” as well.
8.3.3.2 Interface mode
mode = [1-5]
This parameter indicates how the “id” parameter should be interpreted.
The following modes are possible:
1 – search for patient ID
2 – search for study instance UID
3 – search for series instance UID
4 – search for accession number
5 – search for patient name
Example: If mode=1, the id_1 and following is interpreted as patient ID search parameters.
8.3.3.3 ID
id_[n]
This parameter specifies the ID to search for. The “n” displays the number of the ID within the
URL, so the first “id” parameter is “id_1” the second “id_2” etc.
In reference to RFC 3986, a space character has to be encoded to “%20”. This might be
necessary if you want to transmit a patient name. It is also possible to use the “^” character.
It is possible to pass multiple IDs within the URL to open multiple entities in the viewer. If
multiple IDs are passed and the viewer mode is disabled, WADO will search only for the first ID
and list it on the web page.
8.3.3.4 Viewer mode
viewer = [0-5]
This parameter determines the viewer to be opened. The following options are possible:

NOTICE: For downward compatibility, the iq_x parameter can still be used. It behaves as described
above.
8.3.3.5 Display iQ-WEBX header
header_off = [0 | 1]
If this parameter is set to “1”, the header (navigation pane) of iQ-WEBX is invisible. Otherwise,
it is enabled. If the parameter is “0”, it can be omitted.
8.3.3.6 Username
Username = [encrypted username]
This parameter contains the encrypted username. The used algorithm is AES-128 (see chapter
8.3.3.9). If the option “Use central credentials” is enabled, this parameter can be omitted.
8.3.3.7 Password
Password = [encrypted password]
This parameter contains the encrypted password. The used algorithm is AES-128 (see chapter
4 AES-128). If the option “Use central credentials” is enabled, this parameter can be omitted.
8.3.3.8 Limited life time token
lltt = [encrypted lltt]
This parameter contains the start and end of URL validity as UNIX timestamp (see 8.3.3.10)
combined with a colon (UNIXtimestamp:UNIXtimestamp). In addition, this string is encrypted
with AES-128 (see section 8.3.3.9). If the option “Enable LLTT” is disabled, this parameter can
be omitted.

8.3.3.9 AES-128
The Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) defines a crypto system and was published by the
National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). The standard as well as the algorithm
are free to use and can be downloaded from the homepage of NIST.
AES-128 defines the Rijndael algorithm in a Cipher Block Chaining mode. The block and key size
as well as the initialization vector have a size of 128 bit.
In iQ-WEBX WADO, the secret key is given as an alphanumeric string with 16 characters. A
single character has a size of 8 bit, so 16 characters have 128 bit.
The initialization vector contains 32 characters interpreted as hexadecimal values. Two
characters are one hexadecimal number with a size of 8 bit, summed up this makes 16
hexadecimal numbers with a total size of 128 bit.
8.3.3.10 Unix time
The UNIX time is defined as the number of seconds that have elapsed since 1. January 1970
00:00:00 UTC winter time without counting the leap seconds. To generate a UNIX timestamp
from your local time, you have to keep in mind that your time might have a summertime offset
and is located in a different time zone than UTC.
8.3.4 BDT/GDT tool
The BDT/GDT tool observes a predefined directory. Every times, a BDT or GDT file is inserted to
this location the tool will open the internet browser and will perform a WADO request with the
settings made before. It is not possible to use the limited life time token with this tool.
NOTICE: This tool is only available on request.
