About Us


Algeos was founded in 1881 as a leather andgrindery factor (a shoe repairer' wholesaler) butin the late 1980's was foundering due to thedecline in the shoe repair trade owing to changesin footwear fashions and the management'sinability to move away from old fashionedpractices and cope with larger scale competition.

The company was taken over in 1989, when thepotential for alternative avenues was foreseen.

In 1991 the sales team was expanded with theview to build on the local Orthopaedic marketalready supplied by the company within a fiftymile radius.

Without initial specialist knowledge the sales forcewas able to introduce the company and todevelop good working relationships with new

customers throughout the United Kingdom.

Originally concentrating on two or three mainproducts as an introduction the companyexpanded their range as demand grew.

In 1997 the company expanded into a larger6000 square foot factory, employing eight newstaff and investing in new manufacturingmachinery and put into place a factory managerto run the ever-growing logistics operation. Withthe move allowing a natural cut off point, thecompany withdrew from the ailing shoe repairtrade to concentrate on our new markets of Podiatry and Physiotherapy.

These specialist markets complement Algeossupply of orthotic & prosthetic materials and in1998 a specialist manager was recruited toconsolidate and build sales in these areas.

At the same time as withdrawal from the shoerepair business, following the liquidation of alocally based supplier of shoe sundry retail items,manufacturing assets were bought from thesupplier and Algeos were able to continuesupplying former shoe repair wholesalecompetitors.

Following continued growth in 1999 the companymoved to its present premises in Speke South

Liverpool, a 27,000 m industrial unit with afurther increase in staff and new bulk materialhandling machinery.

In September 2003, Algeos acquired FootwearFindings Ltd of Somerset, UK. This was a strategicmove by the company to assist growth and gainfull UK distributorship of PORON Urethanes

In March 2004 the company also acquired BCLeathers of Essex.

Today Algeos are seen as the leading suppliers of materials, components and machinery to theOrthopaedic Manufacturing trades in the UnitedKingdom and the Republic of Ireland.

Our business covers a range of specialist medicalprofessions including: Prosthetics, Orthotics,Diabetic Footcare, Podiatry, and to a lesser extentPhysiotherapy and Occupational Therapy.

Proper alignment of t he foot is widely considered as beingnecessary for normal function during gait . Poor alignment of th e

foot is associated w ith sympto ms such as metatarsalgia, archpain, knee pain, shin-splints, tendon pain, back pain otherpostural related symptom s.

Interpod pre-form orthoses have been designed to address thesesymptoms by supporting the foot and preventing pronation.

Symptom relief

Clinical experience show s the majority o f patient s requiringorthoses respond positively to one of three orthotic heightsreflected in t he Interpod orthotic range: LOW, M ODERATE andHIGH.The correct ortho tic height is a practical issue of shoe fitand comfort, combined w ith the necessity for sympto m relief.

Interpod recomm ends the initial use of the M ODERATE heightorthotic, providing shoe fit permits. If symptoms persist and themoderate height has been comfortable then the use of the HIGHarch is indicated.

The LOW arch is used if the MODERATE is uncomfortable or whenshoe fit is difficult.
