Programme Intended Learning Outcomes

Upon the completion of the programme, students should be able to:

ü Demonstrate an expert knowledge, understanding and competencein the Specialized Area and in the larger educational context;

ü Generate appropriate theoretical frameworks to address, analyzeand propose solutions to a broad range of educational issues;

ü Develop insights into research trends in the Specialized Area anddemonstrate readiness to contribute to the professional Literature inthat field

ü Analyze educational policies, processes or practices from differentperspectives critically.

GS has established three regulations/guidelines tailored for EdDProgramme:

Ø EdD Code of Practice (CoP)(Stipulating the Responsibilities of GS, Departments, Supervisors and Students)

Ø General Academic Regulations (GAR) for Taught PostgraduateProgrammes

Ø General Academic Regulations (GAR) for Research Component

Period of StudyStudents are expected to complete the programme within normal studyperiod. If it is deemed necessary, students may apply for extensionwhile extension fees will be charged (i.e. 1/10 of the tuition fee ofEDD8011 Thesis per semester).

EDD8015 Development of Thesis ProposalBefore entering the stage of thesis writing, students are required todevelop & present a thesis proposal under the guidance ofsupervision panel.

ü Students will be registered in this course in the first semester ofYear 2 by the Graduate School.

ü An initial research plan should be well-prepared in Year 1 beforeapproaching potential supervisor(s).

ü The supervision panel must be confirmed BEFORE thecommencement of Year 2.

ü Please refer to GAR (for Research Component) for thecomposition of a supervision panel.

EDD8012 Research SeminarsRequirements:Throughout duration of the study, students are required to participate in a total ofnot less than 10 professional research seminars, workshops or conferences,Includes the followings:ü Participate in at least ONE Postgraduate Research Conference and Summer

School organized by the Graduate School, HKIEd.ü Participate as a presenter at least ONCE.

Call for Submission:When you have fulfilled the above requirements, you should submit the completedrecord form together with all evidences (e.g. signed attendance sheet, handouts,certificates etc.) to Graduate School upon call for submission.

ü Semester 1: Late-November of each academic yearü Semester 2: Early-May of each academic year

Tuition Feesü HKD3,980 per credit pointü Charged by Semesterü Billing statement sent from the Finance Office normally 1 – 2

weeks after the Add/Drop periodü Required to pay the full tuition of the dropped course if you

request for dropping any course AFTER the designatedadd/drop period.

Extension Feesü Only if he/she applies for extension of study period beyond the

normative length of study.ü The extension fees will be collected by semesterü 10% of the total credit points of EDD8011 Thesis (42cps)

(i.e. HKD3,980 x 42cps x 10% = HKD16,716 per semester)ü Highly recommended to have a well-planning on your EdD study.

If you have not registered for any course in:• Full-time students: One semester• Par-time students: Two consecutive semesters

p Leave of absence (GAR 13.2)Absent of 30% of scheduled classes/ lectures or more in a coursewithout prior permission will be given a grade F (Fail)

Postgraduate Students Publication Award is to reward students whoproduce quality research output in the form of journal articles.

Conference Award is to reward students who present their work atinternational/national/local conference.
