What is Democracy? = Citizens have power over the government through voting! Either directly or through Representatives.

A wealthy Englishmen boasted “Queen Victoria, Queen of England, reigns over the greatest nation that ever existed.”
An English stranger replied to him… “Which nation? For she reigns over two nations. Two nations between whom there is no communication and no sympathy; who are as ignorant of each other’s habits, thoughts, and feelings, as if they were… inhabitants of different planets.”
“What are these two nations?” asked the wealthy Englishman

The North wins the war, 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments to the constitution are added!
13th = No Slavery
14 = Equality for all men in law
15 = African American men can vote
Women Win the Vote
19th Amendment in 1920
Women have their right to vote, finally!
