If it looks Green DOESN’T MEAN It is Green CEO’s Note Religious festivals are innate part of our lives. In fact these festivals are a way of passing our cultural heritage from one generation to another. However, these festivals have a deep impact on our environment. Some of the practices like burning firecrackers, immersing offerings in the river etc create much pollution. Initially traditional festivals were about cleaning our homes and enhancing the natural beauty around us. With time these festivals have become highly unsustainable in nature. I believe that respecting and conserving nature is at the core of all our traditions. That is why many plants, trees and rivers are considered holy and are worshiped in India. The old customs which always complimented the environment should be brought back in practice. I wish all these festivals will bring more happiness in your lives and I also hope that you will do your bit to make the festive celebration Eco-friendly. La Précis In the land of spirituality, humanity has existed since its early stages. Over these years, the relationship between humanity and nature was of love and co- existence. However, since the start of modern century, anthoprogenic activities has led to such destruction and degradation, that the very ethos of Indian way of life is being questioned. Home to all major religions in the world, the world's 2nd most populous country celebrates its festivals with much extragavanza. Nowadays, its more of entertainment activities for people than prayers and blessings of Gods. The challenge is that if India continues to celebrate similarly, there will be more sorrows than happiness. From polluting the water bodies to carbon emissions, there is nothing that is spared. This inreversible damage is already posing grave threats to life on earth. It's high time that India take the opportunity of festivals to thank mother earth and to please forgive us as we walk on her.
