I consider that a liner or the size of the '1.uanle-among icebergs would have the greatest difhcultvin getti ng throu gh unscathed. The smaller Jht-ship the easier it is to wend her way through theicebergs.

Th e cure for this danger in the Atlantic is to

avoid the iceberg area, for it is an almost impossiblefeat for these big liners to go through a ficc ofice-bergs without having some accident.

Since the terrible disaster of the Titanic teachesus that an ocean voyage can never be immunefrom risk, find the travelling public must learn toprotect ilscif, may I respectfully sugeest that withevery pjtssenger ticket issued it should be compulsory ior a numbered hlebcat ticket to be issuedat the same time, the corresponning number beingmarked clearly on the ship s lifeboats, each pas-senger becoming well acquainted with the positionof said seat and boat, and with those ot the crewwho man i t, before the ship is allowed to leavedock?

Surely the slight delay this regularior. wouldinvolve would be richly compensated by the feelingof safety it would engender.

A memori al service was held in St. Paul's Cathedral. I am in accord with such service, but Iwould like to have seen that such a service was to

be held in every parish church, thereby givingmany the opportu nity of taking part.

St. Paul's Cathedral is, of course, a central place, but it is decidedly inconvenient for many who workin the West End and on the outski rts ot the City.

Perhaps it is not too late to make such a requestknown, and T would suggest that such services beheld at neon on a special day to be fixed. Surelythis is a national disaster, and I think that businessshould cease for an hour in order that each mayhave the opportu nity of attending such memorialservice. Thom as Wae d.

When the hair tends to fall out, it is well knownt its growth can be improved and encouraged

ly by the use of some kind of oil or grease whichds the sluggis h hair-ro ots. A fact less generallyown, however, is that cold crecim, ointments, mplexion creams and many other preparationsed for softening the skin of the face and imoving the complexion contain the very oils andeasy substances which, made up into pomadesd hair-washes, p romote the gro wth of the hair .peated use of such things inevitably encourages growth of hair on the lips and chin, both ofich contain numerous latent hair-roots which

Few troubles are more tantalising than the minoraccidentthe slight bu m or cut, the blister or whatnot. Trifling as it is, i t seems always in the way,and there is always the risk of prolonging thetrouble by neglect. Just one of thosevaluable safeguards which should be found inevery house, "ready for service."

There are few homes where the youngster is notthe most important personage to be considered, and the best handbook I have seen on juvenile

requirements is that issued by Messrs. Femvick,

of 71, Elswick Court, Newcastle-on-Tvrje. " Westudy the Baby " is their trade motto, and therej is every proof of it being done not only thoroughlyI but economically, as a glance at its pages w i l li show. The house also make a feature of sending, a selection of their goods out on approval to

Early Victorian decorations for the table arebein g used now. The epcrgne of fruit and flowershas come back again, and the cruet stand is receiving a certain amount of approval.

Fruit and flower dishes of cut crystal mountedin silver are being restored, and a centre dishwith a series of smaller dishes radiating from itis a handsome device. A handsome centre epergnehas flower dishes and candlesticks unit ed to it by-crysta l chains. . .

Chained decorations are old-fashioned, and againvery fashionable, and lamp-shades, candlesticksand" flower holders are made to match wholly, incrystal of a shm t>,nd graceful design.

    verpool's Chance of Avoiding Relegation

    Manchester City Beat Bury,

    E R B Y A N D B U R N L E Y W I N .

Although the football season of 1911-12 has little

re than a week to run, interest in the three big

gues, remai ns as keen as ever. I t is still un

cided who wi l l accompany Bury into the Secondvis ion, and Chelsea ixuiy yet regain a place in

senior circle. And in the Southern League itjust possible for Luton to avoid relegation, hough that possibility is rather remote.

Newcastle lost all chance of catching Blackburn Koversen they were beaten as Aston Park on S.tnrday, and aser tori won aUwlerton it looks as if the Goodi^on Parke will figure second on the list when the final tabje isde up. ,

But what of the clubs at the other end of the ohaTtTy aro already doomed, and Manchester City, by beatingm by 2 to 1 at Gigg-iane on Saturday, made themselvesctically safe. Manchester will meet Midd.esbrough atde-road next week,-and a draw is all that is required top them in tho First Division.

Liverpool managed to beat Sheffield United at Anneld2 to O, but they have a stiff hurdle to negotiate at O d-

m next week, and at the moment their presets are notticularly bright. Manchester United boat Oldham byo 1 at Manchester on Saturday, but the Athletic are aerent side on their own ground.

Preston North End came an unexpected cropper _at Deep-e, where Sunderland won by 3 to 0. Preston are atme to Middlesbrough to-day, and they should put themves safe. Notts County, another side in danger of reUga-n, wero without a match on Saturday, Ttuy -visit Woolh next week, and ifLiverpool win at Oldham they musture both points to retain their place.Except that Clapton Orient gained a decisive victory over

l City at Hull there were no surprises, so far as theding sides in the Second Division wore concerned, .Derbyunty improved their goal average by 4 to 0 at the exnse of Gainsborough Trinity at Derby, and Burnley beatddersfield at Turf Moor by 3 to 0.Derby and Burnley now have one game to play before

season ends, and Chelsea's chances of promotion hangeither failing to win. As Bf.rnsley have four IVraguatches beside the Cup filial to play before Apr"! 30, i t is

sonable to presume that Derby will prove ton good f rm, even at B?Tnsley, Thus unless Burnley fs>i] to winWolverhampton. Che ea htc assured of at least anotherson in the Second Division. As Swindon failed to beat Northnmnton, after having all

better of the gamo at Swindon. Queen's Park gangersnow practically assured of the Southern League cham

nship. The Rangers only just man?gnl-to beat thederate Leyton side, at Park Royal on .Saturday but aw at Norwich next week will give the?n the shifhl.Should, however, the Rangers unexpectedly be defeated,

championship may go to Plymouth Argyle by virtuea .superior goal average. They gained a capital victoryWatford on Saturday, and as they entertain New Bramp

at Home Pcvrk, the Ara-y.e should reach 52 points, amber.already obtained by the Rtngers.Luton, despite their sensittonal 7 to 1 victory overading, -look like accompanying Liyton into the se/ondision. Even if they win at. Northampton next we^k theirv chnnep- k for Southarooton to lose 1 >otH of thftir reining matches. REFLECTOR.

chance to save, Glentoran now played in desperate fashion, but they wero palpably off their game. The l ord Mayor{Councillor R- J, McMordie) who had previously opened-asubscription list in the City Hall for the survivojs of theTitanic disaster, arrived in time to present the cup to thocaptain of the winning team.

At Windsor Park, Belfast. Linfield beat Clyde by 2goals to n il in a friendly game. , BLACKTHORN.
