EEC Equals Well-Defined Programs

EEC Goals Outlined By: Tobey Worthington, NC DKG First Vice-President

For the new chapter officers, here are the goals that DKG International has established for the Educational Excellence Committee (EEC). As you plan your biennium include these goals so your chapter members will continue to GROW.

Empowering women through leadership opportunities

1. Empower leaders to impact policy and people worldwide.

2. Validate and support members’ passions and talents to lead.

3. Inspire, mentor and strengthen members’ growth as leaders.

Engaging educators in purposeful programs and projects

1. Provide resources for local programs to involve members in policy discussions on education.

2. Impact educator retention through support for early-career and all educators.

3. Collaborate with DKG Forums to empower members in impacting educational legislation, policy and pedagogy.

4. Provide strategies and resources for the integration of programs and projects that provide personal and professional growth, including but not limited to the visual and performing arts.

Creating global involvement

1. Encourage programs/activities that advance increased awareness of and involvement in changing global issues.

2. Promote participation in DKG/UN relationship, including but not limited to the Schools for Africa project.

3. Collaborate with educational, governmental and social agencies to promote literacy, cultural and social integration of refugees and migrants.

What Did Your “Little Voice” Say to YOU?

Each of us has heard that little voice saying, “you can do (fill in the blank).” But are we listening? Are we cultivating our own potential by finding the right environment for generating growth? Following our inner voice can be the first step toward real change! Change fosters growth.

NC DKG chapters are experiencing change as they begin a new biennium. Chapter changes can pave the way for chapter growth. But remember—change can be difficult and growth is often a challenge.

Here are Five A’s to ensure change fosters growth at the chapter level. The Five A’s are driven by member engagement.

Members should:

1. Acknowledge what drives change

2. Agree with plans for change

3. Accept their roles in change

4. Act collaboratively to generate change 5. Assume positive results of change

I used this quote recently: “It’s not about perfect. It’s about effort. And when you bring that effort every single day, that’s where transformation happens. That’s how change occurs.” - Jillian Michaels

Question to ponder through this time of change: Where are you placing your efforts in the upcoming biennium? How will you transform your membership to aid chapter growth?

State Perspective and Connections

With President Dr. Teresa H. Cowan NC DKG President

Parliamentary True or False? It is necessary to summarize matters discussed at a meeting in the minutes in order for the minutes to be complete.

False. Not only is it not necessary to summarize matters discussed at a meeting in the minutes, it is improper to do so. Minutes are a record of what was done at a meeting, not what was discussed at the meeting.

Celebrate Teachers

The stress of school facility closings was especially hard on our working members. They had to learn a whole new way of teaching in a short peri-od of time. Brighten their day by honoring them with a donation to the NC DKG Educational Founda-tion. By participating in the statewide 101 Donations Challenge, you can celebrate them and support the Ed-ucational Foundation at the same time. Donation forms can be found at https://www.ncdkgef.org/101-challenge.html. All contributions should be sent to Betty Marshall, Foundation Treasurer, 1112 Anchor Court, Raleigh, NC 27615.

Headquarters Convention Project This year $3,310 was received for

the convention project from regis-trations and host chapter donations. These donations were in lieu of per-sons/chapters seeking full refunds.
