Guide to Tracking Your Cycle Getting to know the inner workings of your body and the changes you go through during each
phase of your cycle will help you to not only track your fertility, but also to connect to yourself.
Do you remember the first time you learned about your period?
So many of us are never taught about our full cycle. We tend to think of it as either bleeding or
not bleeding, missing out on all the nuances of the other hormonal shifts throughout the month.
Well, it’s time to learn a whole new language!
The Cycle Tracking Chart on the next page was designed for you to do just that.
How to Use the Chart:
Dates:
Write in the date above each column.
Day 1 of every cycle is the first day of your period. If you are starting to chart mid-cycle, just start
with Day 1 from wherever you are and once you get your next period, begin a new chart. Don’t
wait for your period to start charting - the important thing is to start now!
Fill in your chart at the end of each day.
Cervical Fluid:
Test your cervical fluid every time you go to the bathroom by wiping a piece of tissue over the
opening of your vagina. Then check on the consistency and color of what is there. Fill in the box
next to the closest matching descriptions for both consistency and color:
Consistency descriptions:
Stretchy / Egg White = stretches 1” or more, feels like raw egg whites
Creamy / Lotiony = has a thick or milky feel but does not stretch more than 1”
Sticky / Crumbly = sticky to touch or crumbles or feels rubbery or gummy
Dry = no mucus present
Bleeding:
Take note of both the consistency and color of your bleeding or spotting.
Body Sensations and other indicators:
Use the other rows on the chart to track what’s happening in your body on physical and
emotional levels, and also lifestyle circumstances that might have an effect on your cycle, i.e.
travel, stress, sexual interactions.
Staying Consistent:
If you’re having trouble remembering to track every day, just keep reminding yourself and know
that after a couple of weeks it will become second nature. There are also other options
available to you: Some smart phones have great cycle tracking applications you can download
for free. Toni Weschler’s book “Taking Charge of Your Fertility” has additional charting options
and great instructional information on cycle tracking.
