FOREWORD
The current Directory, like those published in 1943 and 1944, is designed tb provide information on all companies, agencies, or individuals who are producing minera:ls or rlineral aggregates or whose operations depend direct.ly on these resources. The nnmes of the concerns and of the mines or other properties are listed, together with addresses, locations, and the minerals produced. In rr.ost inst,,nces the concerns listed are currently operating; some, however, are inactive but produced as recently as 1943 and rev.sonc.bly may be expected to resume operation, and a few are in a development stage but expect to produce in the near future. The datn used are fr'.)m the files of the Divjsion of Mines and Mining and have been obtained principally through personal contacts with the operators at their mines, quarries, or places of business.
Sand, gravel, nnd rough stone ar·3 produced by so many opera.tors F.nd from. so many pits and qua.rries that a separate section is provided for the producers of these resources. A very determined effort has been made to include all but the most tempor[).ry a.rid. intermittent operations. The rough stone referred to is mostly crushed for road-building purposes, although some is used for ballast, riprap, .and breakwaters~ As such, it is dist:l.nguished from dimension and archi.tect.ural stone, which are. produced by concerns listed under the general heading of nonmetallic operations.
Every effort has been made to insure the completeness and accuracy of the data included in this directory, yet changes in status due to reorganiz.ation, removals, and altered mining conditions are continually taking place. It ,Nill be appreciated if additions [l!ld correcti,:ms are brought to the attention of the Division.
Sheldon L. Glover, Supervisor Division of Mines and MininfZ Olympia, vvashington
DittECTOHY OF 11VA.SHHJGTON 1JINING OPERATIONS, 1945
The companies included in the following lists are arranged for convenience in three categories, i.e., those working on or producing chiefly metallic minerals; those producing chiefly nonmetc,ll:i.c ftlinerals; end those producing snnd, gravel or crirnhed rock. The organization nume1:; are given in e.lphabetice.l order together with the offic0 ad.dress and the name and address of e.n officer or othur individual interested in rnd far.1iliar with the undertRking. Opposite these arE.: the minerals., metals, or ~tgg:·egn.tes produced, arra11ged, so far o.s possible, in order of value; and the loc::tion of the min,;; or 'nines by county, district, and section. In order to facilitate the usa of the Directory- two supplementery tables r,re included: one_giving mine, pit, or om.1.rry names in nlphc:.hoticn.J.. order together vd.th the corresponding compc.ny nAm,:s end page referencerJ; the other, a tabulation of products mid the names of the producers.
