Division 2 DEPT 102 – BEEF

1. Each exhibitor is expected to take entire charge of his/her livestock after arriving at the fair. Animals must be kept clean, fed and watered. Pens shall have manure cleaned out

regularly and fresh bedding added. Failure to take proper care may be justification for removal of animal (at owner’s expense) and forfeiture of all premiums, monies and awards.

2. All grooming/clipping shall be performed in the barn area only. Exhibitors may receive assistance in grooming/clipping and shall be limited to no more than (2) eligible persons consisting of immediate family member, Hartford Fair District 4-H Advisors and/ or FFA Advisors, Steer Pool Advisors or other Hartford Junior Fair exhibitors. Dept. 102 Fair Breeding Beef entries which are also entered under Dept. 2. Open Beef shall be held to these same rules. Exceptions shall be determined on an individual basis by Sr. Fair board Beef Committee upon request at the MANDATORY barn meeting held at 11:30 am Sunday, August 9, 2020

3. All cattle regardless of age, showing under breed or all other breed classification must be registered/recorded and appear in the name of the exhibitor or immediate family member or family farm on the records of the respective associations. All unregistered animals must be entered and show as crossbreed. Shorthorns must be 15/16 or higher. Simmentals must be 1/2 or higher. No appendix animals will be shown in breed classes.

4. All Breed exhibitors must enter registration number on entry form. All breed exhibits must present registration documents and animal to the “Registered Beef Check-in” location on Sunday between 10 am – 12:30 pm. Animal must correspond to description, tattoo and ownership as shown by registration and transfer certificates. Failure to comply forfeits all rights to show and/or award.

5. Exhibitor number cards must be displayed on the back of the exhibitor in the show ring. 6. Bedding must be straw or pine shavings only. All beef cattle must have a neck strap or rope chain in addition to a halter. 7. Hanging fans only. Grooming shoots limited to one per exhibitor. NO POPUP TENTS ALLOWED AROUND BEEF BARN AREA. These rules will be enforced by Sr.

Fair board Beef Committee. 8. Wash racks will be shut down 6 pm to 9 pm daily. 9. See Jr. Fair rules published in beginning of Jr. Fair Section of this tabloid.

CLASS JA—MARKET BEEF STEER/HEIFER

MARKET BEEF RULES (See rules in Department 103)

1. Each exhibitor is expected to take entire charge of his/her livestock after arriving at the fair. Animals must be kept clean, fed and watered. Market Beef shall be 100% beef breed or cross breed. No dairy allowed.

3. All Market Beef steers (including Knox and Delaware Counties) that will be participating in the 2020 Hartford Fair must have been marked by ear tag and ear tattoo on Saturday, January18, 2020 at the Hartford Fairgrounds to be able to show. There will be NO exception to this rule.

4. Bred heifers are not eligible for show as Market Beef Heifers. 1st and 2nd place class winners will be pregnancy checked after the show. If heifer is found to be pregnant, exhibitor will forfeit placing, premium and right to sell.

5. All class winners will compete in championship drive (no separate champion for heifer). Grand and Reserve Market beef are required to sell and are terminal (steer or heifer)

6. Exhibitor number cards must be worn in the show ring on the back of exhibitor.

7. Bedding must be straw or pine shavings only. All beef cattle must have a neck strap or rope chain in addition to a halter when tied.

8. Hanging fans only. Grooming shoots limited to one per exhibitor. NO POPUP TENTS ALLOWED AROUND BEEF BARN AREA. These rules will be enforced by Sr. Fair Board Beef Committee.

9. Wash racks shut down 6pm - 9pm except for evening show days. 10. No tie outs allowed. 11. Only (1) market steer project is allowed to be sold at the Hartford Fair

Sale. Ex: (1) Steer Pool (must sell) or (1) Dairy feeder or (1) 4-H Steer Market Beef Steer/Heifers shall be shown by weight with a maximum of 10 per class. Market heifer class will show as a class provided (5) eligible heifers are weighed. Otherwise they will show by weight with the steers Exhibitor number cards must be worn in the show ring on the back of exhibitor.

BRED AND OWNED MARKET BEEF

One whose dam was owned by the exhibitor or his/her family at the time the cow was serviced for the resulting pregnancy. Entry made at time of weighing.

DEPT 104 – DAIRY FEEDER STEER *MAXIMUM 6 ENTRIES FOR DEPARTMENTS 102, 103, 104 & 105

DAIRY FEEDER STEER RULES 1. See Jr. Fair rules published in beginning of Jr. Fair section of this book. 2. Dairy Feeder steers must attend pre-fair tagging on Saturday, June 6th from

9:00 am -12:00 noon at Grubb Arena (East end) on the Hartford fairgrounds. Mandatory vaccination program will be in place with the total cost per calf being set at $10.

3. All Dairy Feeder Steers must have neck strap & rope chain in addition to a halter while tied.

4. Bedding must be straw or pine shavings only. No floor fans allowed. 5. Animal must be of 100% dairy bloodlines, Holstein or Brown Swiss only. 6. Must be born after January 1st of exhibition year. 7. Tagging at weigh-in with a $1.00 per entry tagging fee to cover cost. 8. Animal must be dehorned and castrated prior to tagging. 9. Exhibitor must own and care for calf as of May 1st. 10. There is a limit of four (4) steers entered by any one exhibitor. Weight

range will be 400#-650#. No steer 399# or under will sell. Steer 651# and over will sell. Under/Over weight steers may show for class grade only (no championship or Rate of Gain).

11. All dairy feeder steers will be stalled in the designated dairy feeder area of Kohman Wing of Grubb Arena.

1. Market Hog $6 $4

SWINE RULES 1. Powdering, oiling or any dressing of hogs other than washing and

clean water will not be allowed at the Hartford Fair. Exhibitors will be disqualified from showing if they do not follow this rule. Slick clipping or body shaving means having hair that is less than one half (1/2) inch in length on the body of market hogs. All hogs must have a minimum of one half (1/2) inch hair on body. ABSOLUTELY NO clipping of hogs will be allowed on show grounds. Whole body clipping of market hogs is discouraged. The Executive Committee and Swine committee will interpret all rules not covered in the general rules.

2. Following the new state guidelines, there will be no health papers required for market hogs, but you will be required to hand in your DUNF forms at the time you weigh your market hog.

3. Bedding must be straw or pine shavings only. No floor fans allowed.

4. Weights – Hogs must weigh 200# (Hogs under 200# will not be sold) or heavier to compete at the Hartford Fair. Hogs weighing less than 200# will not be allowed to show or sell. Only the hogs weighing between 220# - 280# will be allowed to show in the champion or reserve champion drive. There will be 25 classes. Classes will be set up equally after the hogs have been weighed.

5. All trailers left on fairground during fair week must be parked in designated area.

6. All hogs must be identified by either ear notches or ear tag along with breed and color markings and 2 photos of each hog (one of the head and one of the sides). This form can be printed from the website www.hartfordfair. com and must be submitted to the Hartford Fair on or before June 15 each year. You can identify up to 4 hogs but only 2 hogs may be brought to the fair per exhibitor.

7. If missed deadlines to tag, band or submit Hog ID’s the animal will not qualify for Champion.

8. THE HARTFORD FAIR WILL BE RACTOPAMINE AND PAYLEAN FREE BEGINNING IN THE 2020 HARTFORD FAIR AND MOVING FORWARD. ALL HOG EXHIBITORS AND ONE PARENT/GUARDIAN MUST SIGN WAIVER STATING THERE ANIMAL FOR EXHIBITION Is BOTH RACTOPAMINE AND PAYLEAN FREE THIS MUST BE TURNED IN WITH EXHIBITORS DUNF FORM. THE HARTFORD INDEPENDENT AGRICULTURE SOCIETY RESERVES THE RIGHT TO PERFORM TESTING ON ANIMALS PRESENTED FOR EXHIBITION AT THE HARTFORD FAIR. relief of tympany or gas on the day of exhibiting. Using any substance to enhance or change the color of the livestock, including the livestock's hide or hooves. Adding any substance externally to build up, change or alter the shape or conformation of the livestock, including by way of example but not limited to rope, false hair, graphite, hemp, and powders. This includes powders, powdered paints, and paint, per state veterinarian.

11. Underweight Lambs (as defined in the Jr. Fair rules published in the beginning of the Jr. Fair section of this tabloid) will be exhibited for a grade only and are not eligible rosettes, champion and reserve champion drive, or for the market lamb sale. Underweights lambs ARE eligible for showmanship.

12. Any exhibitor performing an unacceptable practice, the animal will be disqualified from the show and sale.

13. Center dividers must remain in and fastened to back of the pen if taken down. Cannot remove 2 consecutive center dividers. Hartford Fair Board reserves the right to put dividers back

14. No tack allowed in pens. The Hartford Fair board reserves the right to remove any tack from pens not being used to stall animals

LAMB POOL RULES 1. Sign-up Deadline: Registration forms must be returned to address

on the application by the first Saturday in April of current year. Applications are available through the Licking Co. Extension Office and Hartford Fair websites.

2. Selection will be the last Sunday in April at 3:00 pm (Location TBA) 3. Price to be determined. A $25 deposit must accompany completed

registration form and balance is due the last Saturday of April prior to lamb selection process getting underway.

4. All lambs purchased through the Lamb Pool will be of sound condition as possible by the producer. If lamb expires within 20 days of selection and no fault of exhibitor the lamb will be replaced by the producer.

5. Lambs will be tagged for the Hartford Fair on selection day. 6. There will be a selection/entry limit of two Lamb Pool lambs per

exhibitor. Both lambs will be entered and exhibited as singles, no Pen of 2 classes will be offered.

7. Lambs will be obtained from producers within the Hartford Fair district. If a sufficient number of lambs cannot be found within the fair district, then flocks from outside the fair district will be considered.

8. The lambs will be of consistent size and quality and will be black- faced lambs of Suffolk and/or Hampshire breeding.

9. Lambs will follow all rules and regulations pertaining to the Hartford Fair Market Lamb show, as written in the Hartford Fair Book.

10. There will be no additional club enrollment required; members of the Lamb Pool will be required to maintain membership in their respective 4-H Club or FFA Chapter and carry a Market Lamb project.

11. Lambs will be housed in the Sheep Barn during the Hartford Fair. 12. The top two lambs in each class will receive awards. Those top two

lambs will then return to show for a top five overall awards to be held after the other market lamb classes have concluded.

13. The top two from the Lamb Pool show will then complete against the top 2 lambs from the Market Lamb show during the selection of the overall Grand Champion and designation of the top ten lambs.

14. Lamb Pool exhibitors are eligible to show their lambs in the Market Lamb Showmanship classes. There will not be a separate showman- ship class for Lamb Pool exhibitors.

15. The Champion and Reserve Champ. Lamb Pool market lambs will sell at the beginning of the Market Lamb sale along with the Champion and Reserve Champion Market Lambs.

16. Remaining Lamb Pool market lambs may sell during the regularly scheduled Market Lamb Sale. Lamb Pool lambs are not required to sell, unless they are designated as a champion. The rule states that Hartford Fair Junior Fair exhibitors may only sell one animal per species (with exceptions made when an exhibitor has more than one champion market animal) will apply to Lamb Pool exhibitors.

Market Lamb USDA Identification Program

Tents are prohibited around the barn except for the express purpose of grooming or fitting on show days. They may be set up in a pre-designated area of the trailer lot

to the east of the goat barn. 3. Three sides of the goat pens must allow airflow to pass through (may be covered with lattice, chicken wire, livestock panel, etc., no plywood with drilled holes).

Boards must not extend above the gates. 18” or shorter kickboards are allowed on all sides. 4. Gates in goat pens must stay in pens. Center dividers must be fastened to back of pen if taken down. Cannot remove 2 consecutive center dividers. Hartford Fair Board

reserves the right to put dividers back. 5. Solid tarps, sun shades, or mesh tarps may not be hung from the barn. Sun shades or mesh tarps are allowed at the discretion of the Hartford Senior Fair Board. 6. Grand & Reserve Champion Market Goat must go to slaughter will be subject to drug testing. 13. Market Goats must be slick shorn above the hock and knee less than 10 days prior to the fair 14. Dairy goats entered in Classes JA, JB, JC, or JD, Lots 4-7, may be hauled in day of show as long as they are in milk. 15. Review all of the Ohio Livestock Health Exhibition Rules & Ohio Livestock Tampering Exhibition Rules at the front of this book. Violators of these rules are

subject to disqualification. The rules include but are not limited to: a. Unacceptable Practices

GENERAL RULES

1. See Jr. Fair Rules and By-Laws published in beginning of Jr. Fair section of this tabloid. It is the responsibility of the exhibitor to understand these Hartford Fair Rules.

2. In addition to stated rules all activities shall be governed by the uniform rules for 4-H Horse Shows (circular 179) as adopted and supplemented by Jr. and/or Sr. Fair Board.

3. Licking Co. club member’s horse identification papers with full horse/pony name, must be turned into The Licking County Extension Office & Delaware/Knox Co. club members horse identification papers must be turned into the Hartford Fair office by May 1st of current year. Same full horse/pony names must be on fair entry form to be graded. Any horse brought to the fair that does not have matching entry and ID papers will be disqualified.

4. HORSE/PONIES ARE NOT PERMITTED ON THE GROUNDS BEFORE AUGUST 11TH. NO HAUL-IN SCHOOLING !!!

5. All exhibitors must complete a Drug Use Notification Form (DUNF) for each horse and turn in at time of grading. In place of Animal ID # fill in the horse’s name as it appears on the ID papers. Department Directors will review all DUNF and will contact the fair’s veterinarian regarding any questionable medication.

6. All Horses and Ponies must be pre-entered to show on an official Hartford Fair Entry Blank. The name of the horse being exhibited must match the name listed on the ID form submitted on or before May 1st to be eligible to show.

7. All 4-H equine projects being shown at the Hartford Fair, must be vaccinated for the following: 1.) West Nile Combo & Include Tetanus 2) Rhino-Flu 3) Equine Rabies.

8. All 4-H exhibitors entering the fair must present to the vet check station: a vet vaccine record (obtained from a vet that administered vaccines). Also, on this form will be a body condition score given by the vet at the time vaccines were given, and written on vaccines record.

Protesting and Drug Testing: 1. Horses or ponies may be drug tested at the discretion of the Sr. Fair

Board. If the animal test positive for a prohibited drug, the test will be at the cost of the exhibitor.

2. Protests must be made in writing and signed by the party or par- ties making the protest. All protests must be accompanied by a $250.00 cash fee. If lab testing is requested or required, the protester will pay ALL associated drug testing costs and stipulate in the protest what drug the animal is be tested for.

3. Any exhibitor guilty of showing an animal under the influence of any prohibited drug, substance, supplement or failing to file a veterinarian’s certificate prior to the show will be disqualified. The exhibitor will forfeit all winnings for the show. The exhibitor will be ineligible to participate at The Hartford Fair the following year.

4. NO Dogs allowed in the horse complex with the exception of guide dogs 5. ALL Exhibitors or parties on a horse are required to wear ASTM & SEI

approved head gear during the fair 6. No Alcohol or illegal substances are permitted in the horse complex. 7. All exhibitors, advisors and club members must abide by posted barn

rules. 8. The Hartford Fair Board, judge, fair vet or show official have the right

and responsibility to remove from the show ring any animal exhibiting unsafe or unsound behavior.

9. Participation is a privilege, not a right. All Exhibitors, advisors, parents, and club members must abide by posted barn rules. Unsportsmanlike conduct or abuse toward an animal or others is grounds for dismissal from the fairgrounds.

Horseless Horse and Beginner: 10. Horseless Horse Mentorship Projects may show either or both English &

Western. Refer to Dept 110, special notes and entry information. 11. Beginners are NOT Permitted to show in any 3-gaited classes during the

current fair they are exhibiting at. a. Horseless Horse and Beginner Dress Code: Horseless and Beginner

Members participating at the Hartford Independent Fair must wear the following uniform: i. Plain, solid white oxford, long sleeve, full button-down shirt (no

bling) – All Disciplines. ii. Western classes and Contesting classes: appropriate boots, jeans

or slacks (black or blue), any color of tie and helmet cover may be used, no chaps. Gloves are optional.

iii. English: plain white ratcatcher, appropriate boots, breeches, full harness on helmet in riding classes, no jackets. Gloves are optional.

iv. Approved Safety helmets (ASTM/SEI) are required in all Classes.

12. Pop-Up Tents: Two pop-up tents per 4-H club permitted in the horse complex.

13. 2020 Responsible Restart Ohio Rules Barns and Arenas: a. Only TWO guests at a stall with an exhibitor. b. Main Arena & Make up pen: ONLY exhibitors (and one assistant if

necessary for beginner, horseless or Therapeutic riders) in the class following the currently running class will be allowed. The Make-up pen is NOT available for spectators, assistants need to exit when the class enters the arena.

c. Riders while waiting or preparing to show please maintain social distancing guidelines in all arenas, trailers and stall areas.

d. All Classes over 20 entries will be split e. Judges and Ring Stewards will maintain 6 foot distance from

exhibitors at all times. f. We will use the West Gate for all entry into the arena and the East

Gate for all exiting. We ask that area of the out gate be kept clear to ensure proper distancing measures.

14. 2020 Responsible Restart Ohio Stalling Rules: a. Horse/pony are only permitted to be stalled on the grounds for stated

dates of August 11 to August 15th 2020. b. The ONLY horse/pony permitted on the grounds are those pre-

entered and competing in classes during the Fair August 11-15. c. If an exhibitor requests a stall and does not use the stall, the exhibitor

will be INELIGIBLE for a stall the next year. d. Only one horse or pony per exhibitor may be stalled at the fair.

NO SWITCHING OF HORSES. e. Tack boxes, shavings and stall prep needs to be in place 24 hours

prior to animal arrival. f. Horse/pony complex move in will take place Tuesday, August 11th

6:00 am to 2:00 pm. All horses stalling need to be on grounds and ready for vet check by 2:00 pm. Vet check will take place at the stalls at a time to be announced.

g. All stalled horses/ponies will be released Saturday, August 15th 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.

h. All loading and unloading will be completed in designated horse complex parking area.

i. No Trucks and trailers removing stalled horses permitted to be left in the parking area on Friday.

j. Exhibitors and 4-H clubs are responsible for sanitizing their stalls, tack box and tack stall area every day.

k. In accordance with social distancing guidelines, no more than the exhibitor and 2 other parties at a stall.

l. If the horse/pony needs to be removed from the fairgrounds prior to the official release time on Saturday, August 15th, the exhibitor must notify the Hartford Fair Horse Department Chair to acquire an “Early Release”.

m. Posted Stalling Assignments are Final! NO Changes! n. Stalls not in use by a Junior Fair exhibitor will be assigned as tack

stalls at the discretion of the Jr & Sr Fair Board to clubs and exhibitors staying on the grounds.

o. Stalls cards MUST be filled out completely with emergency con- tact information, no exceptions!

p. Exhibitors requesting a stall on their entry will be stalled with their 4-H club (regardless of horse size). If the health or safety of the horse or pony becomes an issue due to stall size, the fair board has the discretion to have the animal removed.

q. Bedding is to be pine shavings or straw. All stalls are to be cleaned out prior to exiting the fair after release on August 15th. If the exhibitor fails to clean their stall, they will be ineligible for a stall the following year.

r. LIMITED STALL DECORATIONS: Only curtains, lights and a decorative sign with exhibitor’s name, photo, emergency contact info and Club information permitted: MAY NOT BE ATTACHED TO THE BARN WITH NAILS, SCREWS, TAPE, OR STAPLES!!! No extra props, benches or end of barn decorating permitted in 2020.

s. No Hanging of any air-chairs, hammocks or swings of any kind in the aisles or from the barn. Tack boxes and equipment should NOT block any aisles in barns.

t. No Crock pots, fridges or cooking devices to be plugged in tack stall or aisles.

15. 2020 Responsible Restart Ohio Haul- In Exhibitors: a. Haul-In’s using a stall for the day will adhere to Responsible Restart

Ohio Rules. b. All Haul-In horses must be on grounds by 8:00 am for vet check and

grading taking place in the horse complex. c. Each club will be designated Haul-in stalls to be used by their club

members choosing to haul-in and use for the day. d. Clubs will need to complete Haul-In ID form to identify what club

members will be using designated stalls for their club each day. e. Stalls need to be cleaned and sanitized nightly after each use. f. ALL HAUL-IN HORSE OR PONIES MUST EXIT THE GROUNDS

WITHIN AN HOUR OF SHOW CONCLUSION. NO EXCEPTIONS! If the horse or pony remains on the fairgrounds past 10 pm the exhibitor will be ineligible for a stall the remainder of the fair and next year.

SPECIAL NOTES Due to significant changes regarding schedule, rules and additional activities in this division, careful attention should be given to these sections. Exhibitors must participate in the grading class JA to be eligible for all classes in the Contest, Hitch, English, and Western. Completed Project Book must be presented at grading. Grading will be based on grooming, condition of the animal, general knowledge of the project, and completion of project book & equine record book if applicable. Definitions of Horse & Pony Divisions

Horseless: Horseless classes are for exhibitors who enrolled in the Horseless Horse Mentorship Project. These youth do not own or lease a horse. Horseless riding classes are Walk-Trot only. Horseless exhibitors are not eligible to show in Beginner

Beginner: For beginner exhibitors in their first or second calendar year of showing and who have no experience in any form of competition at the canter or lope. Beginner riding classes are Walk-Trot only. Beginner exhibitors may not have previously shown any 3 gaited classes and maintain Beginner status.

Age Group Classes: For the experienced exhibitors showing in the appropriate age division at the Walk-Trot-Canter/Lope. Point exhibitors are not ever eligible to show in Beginner classes.

Division 7 DEPT 111 – DOGS

General Rules 1. Dogs participating in the Hartford Fair Dog Obedience, Showmanship

and You and Your Dog activities must either be owned by the junior fair exhibitor or the exhibitor's immediate family. They must be in the continual care of the junior fair exhibitor for the duration of the project. The date of ownership must be no later than April 1. Proof of ownership is the burden of the exhibitor and the exhibitor's family. Hardship cases will not be considered for the Hartford Fair participation

a. Immediate family is defined as the junior fair exhibitor’s father, mother, brother, sister, uncle, aunt, grandfather or grandmother, including the corresponding step and half relations, or by a member of the exhibitor’s household.

b. Continual care is defined as the junior fair exhibitor being responsible for and involved in the feeding, cleaning, and caring of the project.

c. Hardship cases are defined as dogs that replace the original project enrolled by the exhibitor after the county’s enrollment deadline, or no later than April 1.

2. Leasing or two youth sharing a dog is not permitted for Hartford Fair dog show participation.

3. Lessons, instruction and advice for the exhibitor are encouraged. As long as the exhibitor is present in the learning situation, and handles or trains the dog the majority of the time present, such assistance can include occasional handling or training by another person. Only the exhibitor can train the dog at any type of training class on or after April 1.

4. No one other than the Jr. Fair exhibitor is permitted to show the project dog at any type of dog show, including agility, field trails, rally trails, etc., As well as fun matches, on or after April 1st.

5. 4-H members must be enrolled in the correct dog project to show in classes at the Hartford Fair as follows: Obedience, Project No. 2010 to show in Beginning Nov- ice, Pre-Novice, Novice, Graduate Novice, Open, Graduate Open, Rally classes. Showmanship, Project No. 201S to show in Showmanship. Working Dog Project No. 201W to show in the Assistance Dog Class. The interview question for Showman- ship will come from the Ohio 4-H Dog Resource Handbook 201R.

6. Only domestic dogs can be shown at the Hartford Fair Junior Fair Dog Show. Wolf and wolf hybrids are not permitted.

7. All dogs exhibited at the Hartford Fair must be six months of age by the date of the show. This includes Pilot Dog puppies and other assistance dogs. Proof of age is the burden of the exhibitor or exhibitor’s immediate family. Dogs not meeting this age requirement cannot be shown.

8. Junior Fair exhibitors in respective activities and classes are expected to perform in those events and demonstrate those skills which are listed in the Ohio 4-H Dog Resource Handbook, Ohio 4-H Dog Project and Record Book and on various dog 4-H judging score sheets.

9. Youth taking Assistance Dogs may show their Assistance Dogs in one Beginning Obedience class (Beginner Novice A, Beginner Novice B, or Pre-Novice) that meets the exhibitor’s experience eligibility.

10. Misbehavior and Exclusively for Dogs on the Fairgrounds, Show Area, or in the Show Ring

a. Any dog exhibiting unsafe or threatening behavior at any time before, during or after exhibition will be removed from the fairgrounds.

b. The Judge or show official will dismiss from the ring any dog exhibiting unsafe or threatening behavior i. The judge will excuse any dog that appears dangerous to other

dogs or exhibitors. ii. Any dog that snaps, attempts to attack, or attacks any person or

dog while in the show ring will be excused. iii. If a judge determines that a bitch in the ring is in season or

appears to be so attractive to males as to be a disturbing element, the bitch is excused. The judge shall not obtain the opinion of the health check officials

c. Any uncontrolled behavior such a barking, running away from its handler, etc., Will be penalized according to the seriousness of the misbehavior, whether it occurs during, or between an exercise or before or after judging.

d. Any dog not under its handler's control may be excused from competition

11. The 4-H and FFA professionals and show officials in charge will have the right and responsibility to order the removal from the grounds any person verbally or physically abusive to show personnel.

12. Only the exhibitor’s dog, exhibitor, and show officials are permitted on the show arena floor at any time throughout the show

13. All dogs participating in the Hartford Fair must be currently licensed in the exhibitor’s county of residence. The exhibitor must bring a certificate of license to health check. The dog license tag alone is not sufficient. This includes Assistance Dogs. The Assistance Dog Organizations (i.e. Pilot Dogs, Inc.) Will provide the appropriate document for exhibitors to get a license for their dogs

14. Health Requirements: a. All dogs must be immunized against distemper, hepatitis,

leptospirosis, parvo virus, parainfluenza, rabies by a licensed, accredited veterinarian. Bordetella vaccination is recommended, but not required.

b. The required vaccinations must be current through August 8, 2020 and be given by a licensed accredited veterinarian.

c. Veterinarians must note any deviations from the required vaccinations (i.e. leptospirosis vaccination not given by veterinarian or dogs titer tested in lieu of vaccinations) either on the current year Junior Fair Dog Show Certificate of Vaccination or on veterinarian’s letter- head that accompanies the official health papers

d. A current year Licking County Dog Project Identification Form and Vaccination Certificate signed by a licensed, accredited veterinarian is required. These certificates must include the name, breed and age of dog. Other certificates of vaccination, computerized vaccination records, pet record cards, or kennel records will not be accepted. When getting a current year Licking County Dog Project Identification Form and Vaccination Certificate be certain the dates of the required vaccinations, including the rabies vaccination, are listed by the veterinarian. Most dogs, unless it is their first time for a rabies vaccination, will receive or have received a three-year vaccine. The veterinarian must circle which vaccination (1 yr. Or 3 yr.) was given and record the date it was given. Health certificates must be completed and signed by the veterinarian.

e. Before going to Registration, exhibitors must bring their dog license certificate, and current year Licking County Dog Project Identification Form and Certificate of Vaccination to Health Check. Incomplete or falsified information is grounds for dismissal.

f. These are the vaccination requirements for showing a dog at the Hartford Fair. It is the exhibitor’s responsibility to make sure that these vaccination requirements for the Hartford Fair are met.

15. Any dogs exhibiting abnormalities or symptoms of sickness, disease, or parasite infestation as determined by the health check officials, will be eliminated from the show and must be removed from the Fairgrounds. If a dog is under veterinary care for a health condition that is not infectious or contagious, the exhibitor must bring a health certificate from the attending veterinarian verifying the condition and treatment. Decision of the show health check officials is final.

16. Dogs must be kept on leash while on the fairgrounds, except when participating in the ring during judging. Exhibitors are totally responsible for their dogs while on the fairgrounds. Exhibitors are expected to clean up after their dogs. Dogs must not be left unattended.

17. Bitches showing signs of heat are not permitted to compete and are not permitted on the Fairgrounds. Each dog must go through a health check where all females will be checked for signs of heat. If a bitch shows any signs of heat, she will be eliminated from the show and must be removed from the Fairgrounds. Any bitch, which appears so at tractive to males as to be a disturbing element, will be eliminated from the show and must be removed from the Fairgrounds. Decision of the health check officials is final. Pregnant or lactating (nursing) bitches may not be shown and are not permitted on the fairgrounds.

18. Exhibitors must provide their own collar, leash, water dish, kennel and any equipment needed.

a. Obedience collars include well-fitting plain buckle or quick release collars, or slip collars of an appropriate single length of leather, fabric or chain with two rings, one on each ‘end. Fancy collars, harnesses, head halters, studded collars, pinch collars with prongs or spikes on inside or outside, electronic collars, or any other special training collars, or collars that are either too tight or so large that they hang down unreasonably in front of the dogs are not permitted. Nothing shall be hanging from the collars. Leashes may be of fabric or leather and must be 6 feet in length for sub-novice classes. For novice and graduate novice classes, the leash need be only of sufficient length to provide adequate slack in the heel on leash exercise. Chain leashes are not acceptable.

b. Showmanship collars include a chain or fabric slip collar, or martingale-type show lead. Nothing shall be hanging from the col- lars. Leashes may be of fabric or leather and long enough to allow for easy handling of the dog. Chain leashes are not acceptable.

c. Head halters and harness are permitted in Assistance Dog and You and Your Dog classes only. They are not permitted in any of the Dog Obedience or Showmanship classes. Dumbbells must be made of one or more solid pieces of one of the heavy hard woods, or of a rigid or semi-rigid, firm, nontoxic, non-wooden material, similar in size, shape, and weight to a wooden dumbbell. Metal dumbbells are not permitted. Dumbbells shall not be hollowed out. They shall have no decorations or attachments, but may bear an inconspicuous mark for identification. The size of the dumb bell shall be proportionate to the size of the dog.

19. Appearance a. Handler’s appearance: Exhibitor must be neat, clean and well

groomed in appearance. Exhibitor should be wearing clothing that is comfortable to handle in and appropriate for dog shows. Clothing should not distract, limit or hinder the judge's view of the dog. (1) Acceptable clothing for all obedience, You and Your Dog and Assistants Dog class- es includes slacks or colored jeans, collared blouses or shirts. Blouses and shirts must be closed within one button from the top and tucked in all the way around the waist.

Closed-Toed shoes must be worn. (2) Acceptable clothing for girls in Showmanship classes are dresses, skirts, dress slacks, collared blouses, or similar attire. Closed-toed shoes must be worn. (3) Acceptable clothing for boys in Showmanship classes includes: Dress shirts, ties, and dress slacks. Sports jackets may be worn but are not necessary. Inappropriate Clothing for all classes includes clothing with holes or tears in the fabric, blue jeans, faded or torn jeans of any kind, leggings, sleeveless blouses, shirts, T-shirts or similar attire. Do not wear shirt with club names or logos, Clothing with lettering or distracting/offensive wording or designs. Do not wear sandals, open toed shoes, clogs or similar type of footwear.

b. Dog’s appearance: Dogs should be clean, well brushed and in good physical condition appropriate for the dog’s age. Regulation show slip is not required for the purebred dogs.

20. Exhibitors showing their dogs at any Licensed or Member Obedience Trial or at a Sanctioned Match must show their dogs at the same or higher B level classes than they are showing in AKC, UKC, or other titling shows. Dogs who have completed their Companion Dog (CD) title (or UKC, or other titling equivalents) prior to or anytime during the current project year must show in Graduate Novice classes at the very minimum. Dogs completing their Companion Dog Excellent (CDX) title (or UKC, or other titling equivalents) prior to or anytime during the current project year must show in Open or Graduate Open classes. Any dog receiving one or more legs towards a title anytime during the project year must then move into the appropriate B class at the time the first leg was earned. Showmanship classes, dogs with AKC Jr. Handling or like experiences must be shown in exhibitor age-appropriate B classes. Dogs completing a title prior to, or anytime during, the project year must show in exhibitor age-appropriate B classes. Any dog receiving points towards a championship title any time during the project year must then move into the appropriate B class at the time the points were first earned

All participants must submit a Rabbit ID form by the first Saturday in May to register the mother doe of the kits to be eligible to exhibit at the Hartford Independent Fair in the Bred and Raised Market division. The ID form must be completely filled out and returned with requested photos. If missed deadlines to tag, band or submit Rabbit ID’s the animal will not qualify for Champion.

c. All bred and raised market projects must be bred, owned and raised by the exhibitor noted on the ID form of the doe.

d. Siblings from the same family are permitted to submit a Rabbit ID form for the same doe. Any additional doe sharing requests are at the discretion of the Hartford Fair Committee Chair.

e. At the July registration and tattooing, the doe and litter will need to be present. A letter or number from the mother doe will need to be part of the tattoo combination of the kit to be registered and exhibited.

f. The top 5 rabbits of lot 3 and 4 will receive ribbons for placing in their respective lot.

g. Only the 1st place rabbits of Single Fryer and Pen of 3 lots (lots 1-4) will be invited to compete against each other for the overall Grand and Reserve Champion of the respective divisions.

Contestants must be 16 years of age (as of August 6th and exhibiting at the 2020 Hartford Fair. All interested individuals must complete an application and submit it to the Hartford Fair 14028 Fairgrounds Rd., NW Croton, OH 43013-9794 on or before the deadline of June 27, 2020. All applicants must have a Junior Fair exhibit for the 2020 Hartford Fair entered by deadline date of June 27th, 2020. Late entries and or late King/Queen applications will NOT be accepted.
