A WORD FROM THE FOUNDERSWhen we founded the Ana and Vlade Divac Foundation, we urged to inspire others to look up to us. And we have succeeded in doing so since today, our foundation consists not only of Ana and Vlade Divac, but of every citizen, volunteer, donor, team member, everyone who has contributed to the foundation developing on a daily basis and helping the people who need help the most.

We are just the people who initiated the foundation using our name, work, money and integrity, everything else is a result of the work and investment of all the people who share the same idea and values.

How would we like to spend our lives? What is it that we can say is really worth it and what we have lived for?

For us, it is the Ana and Vlade Divac Foundation and the Foundation staff. In spite of all the problems and challenges we face on a daily basis, it is important to turn to positive things and values, and our Foundation’s goal is to promote these very values in the next period as well, by bringing into the light of the public unnoticed people who are not public figures but who are doing good every day.

We will thereby show that this country consists of soft-hearted people who help others which is what brings us together. When we work for a common goal, it does not matter who belongs to which team, who supports whom, which nations and religions we belong to. After 11 years of work, we have gained a reputation for our professionalism and transparency, which is why donors and citizens trust us. We have collaborated with more than 700 companies and hundreds of thousands of individual donors. Since its founding, the Foundation has helped more than 700,000 people with $ 15.7 million through a variety of charitable activities and development projects that we have directed in multiple directions.

We strive to be an example to others and to invite as many people as possible to join us in generosity. The global situation may not be up to us, we may not have enough influence to change the whole world, but we can change the micro cosmos around us for the better, we can change Serbia and make it good for all of us and for the generations to come.

Yours Ana i Vlade Divac

2018 IN NUMBERS

During 2018, the Ana and Vlade Divac Foundation continued to assist refugees and internally displaced persons from the former Yugoslavia as well as socially vulnerable families. The Foundation strive to provide these social groups, which are increasingly exposed to the risk of poverty or below the poverty threshold, with roofs over their heads, students’ scholarships and other types of assistance which is not just short-term support, but essentially changes the lives of those who need support the most. This helps these families come out of the vicious circle of poverty, overcome past traumas and become equal members of society.

1Through the humanitarian project You Can Too funds were collected for the housing care of refugees and internally displaced families. As a result of cooperation with the Airport “Nikola Tesla”, Belgrade and donations received from a large number of individuals, two refugee families from Laćarak and Sokobanja got new homes. Both families are single-parent families, which makes them a particularly vulnerable category frequently exposed to discrimination, poverty and social exclusion.

Ten years of field experience and numerous statistical indicators have shown that rural households in Serbia are increasingly exposed to poverty and social exclusion, while some regions remain particularly underdeveloped. One of these municipalities is Kuršumlija. Ana and Vlade Divac Foundation reconstructed a large number of houses in Kuršumlijska Banja for the socially most vulnerable families. As additional help for all people from Kuršumlijska Banja, food packages, children’s New Year’s packages, free of charge internet access and free intercity transport were provided as well.

Annual Report 2018

The Bakter family of four moved to a new home in Laćarak! The foundation, thanks to a longtime donor Anka Erne, bought a home for a single mother Ružica and her children.

Ružica Bakter is a single mother who has three children - a daughter Gordana and sons Damir and Darko. Ružica survived many misfortunes, was the victim of a business scam, and remained struggling with debt, while being unable to find a job.

Considering how enterprising Ružica is and how much she is doing to provide a carefree childhood to her children, who are doing well at school, the Foundation, after searching in collaboration with the family and the Center for Social Work, found and bought a house in Laćarak for this family in the amount of EUR 10,000.“Now I have my own home, my children’s life will be much easier and better” Ružica

ANkA AND DAVID ERNE Individual donors Anka and David Erne who live in the United States are longtime donors to the Ana and Vlade Divac Foundation.

SUPPORT TO SINGLE-PARENT FAMILIES

Within the provision of one-time humanitarian aid, Ana and Vlade Divac Foundation did not forget single-parent families recognized as a category increasingly exposed to poverty and social exclusion. severalthousandsingle-parent families received food packages within the campaign that the Foundation implemented in cooperation with Public Utility Company “Infostan”.

DECENT LIFE FOR ALL

Unfortunately, in Serbia, a large number of people live on the verge of poverty, and they cannot afford everyday necessities. Bearing in mind the large number of families living below the poverty threshold, the Ana and Vlade Divac Foundation, in partnership with P&G, provided 1,006 packages of basic foodstuffs sufficient for 15,000 meals in 2018.

The packages were distributed to the most vulnerable families using the services of soup kitchens in Belgrade, Niš and Novi Sad

.

The Foundation, with the selfless help of the fraternity of Visoki Dečani Monastery, continued to care for the poorest families from Kosovo and Metohija. Assistance in food, firewood, household appliances, furniture and other necessities of life was delivered to eight families from Kosovo and Metohija.

They regularly enjoyed classes at the “Social Café”. “It’s nice for me to babysit my younger brother and sister, but there are so many other things I would like to do. I really want to get a good education. When I look at the women employed at the Asylum Center, I see that they are all educated and independent. I want to be just like them one day,” Amira said.

ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT AND EMPLOYMENT INCENTIVES2 AGRICULTURE – THE FUTURE LIES IN GOOD IDEAS

Ana and Vlade Divac Foundation and the German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ) in 2018 implemented the project intended for young farmers, students of the final year of secondary agricultural schools. 16studentgrants were awarded, while the value of the project was € 70,000.

The contest for the empowerment of young farmers was implemented in cooperation with two municipalities and secondary agricultural schools in Ruma and Požega. Forty-seven final-year students were trained in writing business plans within 10workshops, and received direct mentoring support. It was important to help students acquire business plan writing skills and thus become competitive in obtaining funding at local, provincial or national levels.

In 2019, the project continues in schools in Požarevac, Požega and Prokuplje, Gornji Milanovac and Arilje in cooperation with local self-governments. The project aims at successful future careers and motivating young people to opt for careers in agriculture. This is the beginning of support for young people who want to engage in agriculture and an approach that with good results has the potential to be extended to other agricultural schools in Serbia.

https://www.divac.com/poljoprivreda

Investing in agriculture does not benefit only those engaged in agriculture. It is an investment in the society as a whole. In 2018, Ana and Vlade Divac Foundation continued supporting the development of agriculture, focusing on young farmers, in order to economically empower families who wanted to stay and live in villages.

Through support for development of agriculture in rural areas, under Divac Agricultural Funds, 64agriculturalhouseholds with more than 330familymembers have started and developed their own businesses or agricultural production.

Support is provided in the form of herds/flocks of domestic animals (goats, sheep and other domestic animals), agricultural machinery and construction materials in the totalvalueof€70,000. The cooperation was realized with four municipalities in Serbia: Prijepolje, Knjaževac, Užice and Valjevo.

IT BOOTCAMP – NONPROFIT IT SCHOOL FOR RETRAINING PEOPLE INTO IT SECTOR

In order to bridge the gap in the labor market and help Serbia’s economic acceleration, a group of donors from the diaspora decided to open an IT school in cooperation with the Ana and Vlade Divac Foundation. The goal of the school is to provide free knowledge to the population that did not have the opportunity to formally receive IT education.

The mission is to provide opportunities for social advancement to motivated individuals and increase the productivity of the Serbian economy through skilled IT workforce.

Pavle Avramović (19) from Neradin. In the next two to three years, I have a chance to develop the capacity of livestock, bearing in mind a small number of farmers in Vojvodina opting for stock farming. It’s just that no one is going to keep livestock anymore, because they think it’s a big obligation and they mostly leave the villages, while I think that one can make a living from it,” Pavle is convinced.

Annual Report 2018

The Ana and Vlade Divac Foundation, in partnership with the Center for Dignified Work, have been implementing the project Encouraging Gender Equality and Labour Market Participation of Single Mothers in Serbia. The project lasts for 18 months and is implemented with the support of the European Union, within the framework of the European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights.

IMPROVEMENT OF LABOR MARkET PARTICIPATION OF SINGLE MOTHERS

Given the low employment rate among single mothers, as well as the fact that a large number of single-parent families live below the poverty threshold, the project aims to contribute to improving the socio-economic and working rights of single parents by creating a more favorable employment environment and the position of single parents in the labor market through linking the public, civil and business sectors

In one of the poorest municipalities in Serbia, with the aim of empowering women, the Association of Lužnica Handicrafts, Ž.E.C. was established and it has been providing home help for the elderly since 2009. They started their businesses in 2015 in order to recruit women from this district and to provide funding for their social services. In 2018, together with the partners, they established the association Gifts of Lužnica consisting of registered households that started organic production. Within the project encouraginggenderequalityandthelabourmarketparticipationofsinglemothersinserbia, they launched certified training for organic production, which was completed by 12 single mothers from Babušnica.

DEVELOPMENT OF DEMOCRACY AND SUPPORT TO LOCAL COMMUNITIES

Supporting the communities most affected by the refugee crisis and local initiatives that improve the quality of life in the community has been our business for two years with the support of the Open Society Foundations. This project promotes solidarity, tolerance and working together to create a better environment for living, working and growing up, and involves a large number of people and creates space for cooperation between refugees and the local population.

18 initiatives from Subotica, Šid and Preševo, with a total value of $ 70,000, were supported.

THE CHANCE LIES IN EDUCATION

Improvement of conditions for the upbringing and education of children and youth and support to youth projects is an area that Ana and Vlade Divac Foundation have been investing in for years. During the past year, 10schoolsandkindergartens, which are used daily by more than 5,000children, have been renovated and equipped through various projects.

In 2018, thanks to donations from buyers from the boxes of the Kragujevac Plaza shopping mall, we continue the tradition of renewing school library funds to enhance students’ knowledge and contribute to their happier growing up through the time spent with the book.

Since 2010, when the Big Heart project was launched, Eurobank

and the Ana and Vlade Divac Foundation have renovated nearly 50

playgrounds in kindergartens, as well as a large number of premises

in schools and health facilities where children are staying. Thanks to

the activity, tens of thousands of children across Serbia were given

quality playing and learning conditions and a happier childhood.

For eight years, Eurobank and the Ana and Vlade Divac Foundation have been helping to renovate playgrounds in kindergartens, schools and healthcare facilities through the Big Heart project, with the aim of providing children with better conditions for growing up and education. YOUNG PEOPLE CHANGE THE WORLD

The Ana and Vlade Divac Foundation has continued to work on the project divacyouthfunds, which it has been implementing since 2013, with the aim of contributing to increasing youth participation in local development processes through the award of grants to projects initiated and run by young people. The project Divac Youth Funds was implemented in the municipalities of Aranđelovac, Vladičin Han, Vlasotince and Aleksinac, in cooperation with the organization Proaktiv from Niš, “Ja sam za” from Aranđelovac and the association “Veles“ from Vladičin Han, with financial support by the Balkan Trust for Democracy and Booking.com.

The Ana and Vlade Divac Foundation coordinates a regional youthbanksHubforthewesternbalkansandturkey that brings together 20 youth organizations from Serbia, Macedonia, Albania, Montenegro and Turkey to encourage greater participation of young people in public life at local and national levels. Not only do these countries have a common denominator of being EU membership candidates, they also face similar challenges when it comes to youth participation in decision making in all spheres of life.

In 2018, 26trainings were conducted for civil society organizations, 16publiceventsthat brought together over 500decision makers at local and national levels, and we published sixsurveys on the position of young people. The Hub has published a third Youth Participation Index, based on which it collects data and measures the level of youth involvement in the economic, political and social spheres. This instrument for monitoring the position of young people was developed for the first time in Europe. The project is being implemented with the financial support of the European Commission.

HELP ON THE ROUTE

The project Helpontheroute-fosteringprotectionofhumanrightsofmigrantspassingthroughmacedoniaandserbia is implemented by Ana and Vlade Divac Foundation in partnership with Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund Deutschland (ASB), Novi Sad Humanitarian Center and the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights of Macedonia. The aim of the project is to contribute to the promotion and protection of human rights of migrants and asylum seekers passing through Macedonia and Serbia. Through the project, 20 civil society organizations from both countries have received financial support in the total amount of 300,000 EUR in order to strengthen their capacities to identify, document and report violations of human rights of migrants and asylum seekers. The project is funded by the European Union within the program of the European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights (EIDHR) program.

Ozair made rapid progress at “Branko Pešić” School. Intelligent and talented for languages, he learned Serbian very quickly. “I sold my phone and bought a good camera to shoot everything I do. I noticed that a significantly fewer people go from the reception center in Krnjača to Zemun (evening school “Branko Pešić”) as there is no organized transport, so I decided to start a fundraising action myself. I made a video about a school where everything is exceptionally adjusted to migrant children. After posting the video on social networks, I raised money in two days”. Ozair also recorded several clips on religious holidays, both Christian and Islamic, as well as on Women’s Day, always promoting respect, acceptance and human rights

DEVELOPMENT OF PHILANTHROPY4 IMPROVEMENT OF FRAMEWORk FOR GIVING

Since its establishment, Ana and Vlade Divac Foundation have been dedicated to the development of philanthropy. After ten years of successful work on philanthropy development, both across the country and in the diaspora, in the fall of 2017, the Foundation formed a Coalition for Giving together with partners from the Trag Foundation, the Smart Kolektiv, the Catalyst Foundation, the Serbian Philanthropy Forum, the Responsible Business Forum and the Serbian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, as organizations dealing with the long-term development of giving for the common good in Serbia. The goal of the Ana and Vlade Divac Foundation is to improve conditions for the growth and development of individual and corporate philanthropy in Serbia through cooperation and joint work with partners and state bodies. The Coalition for Giving, led by the Ana and Vlade Divac Foundation, has received support from USAID and in April 2018 began implementing the projectforimprovementtheframeworkforgiving.

The aims of the Project for Improvement the Framework for Giving are:• Strengthening philanthropic infrastructure that can contribute to the sustainable growth of philanthropic giving and the development of cross-sector partnerships• Improving the legal framework for the development of incentive and transparent giving by individuals and companies • Promotion of charity, culture of giving and transparency among citizens of the Republic of Serbia, companies, diaspora and non-profit organizations Knowing that improving the conditions for giving for the common good requires the cooperation of various participants and state bodies, the Coalition for Giving proposed the establishment of a Philanthropy Council which was established by the Prime Minister of Serbia in August 2018. The Ana and Vlade Divac Foundation continued to work closely with the media in promoting philanthropy and together with the partners from the Coalition for Giving started working on strategies for promoting philanthropy across the country, in collaboration with the media and other non-profit organizations locally.
