Agriculture along with allied sectors provides the principal means of livelihood to over 60 per cent of state population and remains as the largest economic sector in Tamil Nadu. In the last 15 years, agriculture in Tamil Nadu has undergone considerable change towards diversification and market orientation. With the limited scope for area expansion, three most effective strategies for achieving rural prosperity through improved income and livelihood security are: i) increasing productivity ii) enhancing post- harvest activity in production catchments iii) reducing costs leading to greater share of consumer rupee being passed on to the farmers. Accessibility to relevant agricultural knowledge, technologies, innovations, technology products, skills and services, therefore, becomes a critical determining factor. There is a vast scope to harness the potential of various stakeholders involved in the agricultural development in the State and as a step in this direction KISAN SAMRIDDHI MELA-2018 is organised to create a common platform and meeting point for farmers and technology providers in the State.
Hon'ble Prime Minister of India through various Govt of India initiatives and programmes is taking steps to ensure farmers’ progress through integrating potential resource conservation and income generation technologies for farmers' progress to double their income by 2022. The Mela provides a learning opportunity for farmers to understand their potential resources and appropriate technological choices and their integration for effective utilisation of available farm resources to maximise the per unit farm output and profit. KISAN SAMRIDDHI MELA-2018 is a three day event planned during 24-26 August, 2018 at Codissia Trade Fair Complex, Coimbatore wherein the technologies showcased through exhibitions, demonstrations, discussion forums and expert advisories are planned for the benefit of farmers in Tamil Nadu state.
