Maintain accurate inventory (FASGov) Assist Administration in purchasing decisions District Hardware Standards (Office & CAL) Transfer obsolete hardware (Omniform 0082) This year’s Capital Project Re-image computers (Altiris Modules) Keep all hardware clean Complete simple repairs of hardware Generate HEAT work orders when necessary
Capital Project
Our goal is a 4.8 to 1 ratio of students to modern computers
Your school’s allocation depends on FTE, what you have now, price of new
desktop Dell 280 desktop will come imaged and
named, including standard district software
How you can prepare for new computers
Software Support
District Standard Software All levels, elementary, secondary
Maintain accurate inventory Provide for ethical use of software & Internet
Acceptable Use Policy, Students, Staff Office take home license
Install software, either manually or via Altiris Assist with management of various
instructional and assessment software(SRI, FCAT Explorer, Riverdeep, United Streaming, EDL, GradeQuick, Edline, Harcourt Math, etc.)
Network Support
Manage Active Directory (create users, notify Mail Admin of users to be deleted, etc.) and school e-mail and communicate with Mail Admin
Perform weekly rotation of back-up tapes Monitor the Server and Network (server,
switches, patches, UPS, http://whatsup/) Assist Network Services with major virus alerts,
infections, etc. Submit appeals to have web sites blocked
(Outlook: blocked) Report receipt of SPAM (Outlook: abuse)
Staff Support
Lead Teachers, Tech Ambassadors, Project SMaRT Assist teachers with technology projects Assist with student technology orientation Limit access to confidential information by
safeguarding passwords and securing student information
Schedule and/or provide staff development for technology
Blackboard – Online Staff Development (MindLeaders)

Work with your School Technology Leadership Team to complete the STaR Survey
School Technology Leadership Team
• A small cadre of teachers who have the ability to take the lead at your school for modeling techniques in integrating educational technologies– Technology Contact– Media Specialist– Administrator– Grade Level / Department Reps.– ESE – ESOL Rep– One non-techy person
Responsibilities of the Team
• Provide leadership by modeling integration of technology into the curriculum at your school
• Test and evaluate technologies for the classroom
• Represent the school at technology conferences and workshops– Present best practices at District Technology
Conference– Bring knowledge back to the school to help with
planning and implementation of technology
• First line of support for tech problems
• Planning for Technology– Assist with writing the technology portion of
the school improvement plan– Assist in completing the STaR Survey
Responsibilities of the Team
• When to start? NOW would be good– No time like the present– He who hesitates is lost– Don’t put off till tomorrow …..– The early bird catches the worm– Unless you are the lead sled dog, the
scenery never changes
