About Rewa District
Rewa is a district of Madhya Pradesh with its administrative headquarters located atRewa city. The district got its name from its headquarters town i.e. Rewa. Moreover,another name of Narmada River is Rewa . After the promulgation of the Provinces andstates order, the current Rewa district along with its boundar ies came into existence inthe year 1950. Before August 1947 the district combining with the Raghurajnagar tehsilof the earlier Rewa state was just similar to the north Rewa district of that state. Thepresent Rewa district includes most of the territories ruled by the imperial Mauryadynasty in the 3rd century B.C. The district is famous for the white tiger since in Indiat he first white tiger was founded on Rewa. Once upon a time when Rewa King washunting in the jungle then he found a white colour tiger and named the tiger as Mohan.
Geographically, the district lies at 24°53'N latitude, 81 °30'E longitude and 304 mAltitude. The district encompasses a geographical area of 6,314 sq km and it is boundedby Uttar Pradesh on the North, Shahdol district on the South, Sidhi district on the Eastand South East and Satna district on the West. The climate of the district remainsextremely hot during the summer and fairly cold during the winter. The actual rainfall inthe district was 771.0 mm in the year of 2015-16.
Administration wise, the district is divided into 11 tehsils namely Gur, Mangava, Naigarhi,Sirmaur, Jawa, Teonthar, Hanumana, Hujur, Raipur Karchulian, Mauganj and Semariya.Moreover, it comprises 13 towns and 2719 villages.There are 1 Lok Sabha seat and 8Assembly constituencies in the district.
According to 2011 census the district has a population of 23,65,106 (persons) including12,25,100 (males) and 11,40,006 (females). The district has a sex ratio of 931 femalesfor every1000 males. In the year 2001-2011 the population growth rate in the districtwas 19.86 % (persons) out of which 20.5 % (males) and 19.17 % (females). The majorreligions in the district are Hindu and Muslim with 95.93% and 3.61% of the totalpopulation respectively .
Agriculture is the backbone of the economy of the district. The chief agriculturalproducts in the district are paddy, maize, millet, etc. The adoption of the newagricultural technologies amongst the famers of the district helps to increase theproduction of various agricultural items. In terms of mineral resources, the district is richin it. The Rewa district has a belt of limestone and coal is also found in its nearbydistricts such as Shahdol, Umaria, Sidhi and Singrauli. Due to the availability of limestonesome cement factories are set up in some of its nearby places. Every year a huge chunkof revenue comes from these factories helps in its economy to a great extent. In 2006,the Ministry of Panchayati Raj declared Rewa as one of the country's 250 most backwarddistricts and currently receiving funds from the Backward Regions Grant Fund Programme(BRGF). In the year 2012-2013 the gross domestic product in the district was Rs8,22,278 lakh at current price.

Rewa is an abode of several reputed educational institutions. It provides a platform forhigher education. Some of its recognised educational institutions are Awadhesh PratapSingh University, SIT College & Group of Institutions, Govt. T.R.S College, RewaEngineering College, Shyam Shah Medical College, Jaypee Polytechnic and TrainingCentre,
Jawaharlal Nehru college of Technology, etc . As per 2011 census the literacy rate in thedistrict is 71.62% (persons), 81.43% (males) and 61.16% (females).
Deoraj Singh Patel, an eminent Indian politician and a member of 15th Lok Sabha from theRewa constituency was born on 30th December, 1968 at Sumedha village in the Rewadistrict. He is a member of the Bahujan Samaj Party.
The district has several centres of attraction which allures many travellers from differentparts of the country as well as world. The nearby areas of the district have theBansagar Dam, some waterfalls and a giant statue of Lord Shiva popularly known as thestatue of "Bhairon Baba". Chitrakoot , a place located at a distance of 52 km from thedistrict has the most renowned tourist destinations of the district such as Maihar andRanipur Sanctuary. The beautiful waterfalls in the Rewa district are Keoti waterfalls ,Chechai waterfalls , Bahuti waterfalls , Purba waterfalls , Belauhi waterfalls, etc. Someother notable places of interest in the district include Rewa Fort and Museum, ShilpiPlaza, Awadhesh Pratap Singh University Stadium, Venkat Bhawan, Shiva Temple, RaniTalab Temple, etc.
