Lion Mark is originally from Trenton where he lives with Lion Connie, his wife of 39 years. Together they have 3 adult sons and 5 grandchildren. Lion Mark is a pilot by profession,
having served as a pilot in the RCAF for 39 years and 10 years as an airline pilot with a small airline out of Toronto. He is currently a self-employed contract simulator instructor in Trenton, maintaining his connection to the profession. Lion Mark began his Lions journey in Yellowknife in 1982 and with the exception of a 4-year break for work and family, service has been continuous. He joined the Trenton Lions in 1991 and has maintained 100% attendance ever since. He has served his club as a Board member for most of his 30 years, has been president twice, and has held numerous other positions in the club. Lion Mark’s leadership role at the district level started in 2017 when he was Zone Chair for Region 43 South. He moved forward in each of the ensuing years to First Vice District Governor in 2020/21. Elected as District Governor for the 2021/22 Lions year, Lion Mark is ready to serve. I am honoured and humbled to be your District Governor for the Lions year 2021/22 and will work hard to support you as we work towards achieving the District Goals. Along with the rest of the district leadership team I will work tirelessly to help you achieve success. I believe that we have an awesome district where every Lion continues to exemplify our motto “WE SERVE”. The COVID-19 pandemic restrictions that we have lived under for the past year and a half have been frustrating but have not slowed us down. Lions stepped up to embrace change and have found new ways to meet and to serve their communities. This undeniable spirit is what makes Lions the best service organization in the world. As things open up, once again Lions will be there even stronger to support the increased need for service. Now is the time to start planning and implementing new and innovative service projects to meet this need. Continue telling our service story and be proud of every accomplishment whether small or large. I have seen the smiles on Lions faces as they serve and the fun and fellowship happening despite the physical distancing that has been forced upon us. This Lions year we will work together to continue to push the edges of how we serve and meet, we will continue to embrace change and look at how we can do things better. I look forward to visiting clubs and to working with you all as we surmount the challenges set before us. We will Serve from the heart with compassion, collaboration, and cooperation. This will be a fantastic year because…
“IT’S GREAT TO BE A LION”
MARK KELSO DISTRICT GOVERNOR TRENTON LIONS CLUB
8
Linda became a Lion in 2010, when she joined the
Sharbot Lake Lions Club. Hubby Bill had been a Lion
for over 20 years and Linda had volunteered some
with the club over the years. After she retired from the Educational system, she
spent a couple of years “finding herself”, while she dabbled in landscape painting
and wood carving and, generally, doing nothing. Tiring of this and becoming restless,
she looked around to see where her skills might be useful and that is when she
decided to join Lions.
Linda became Club President 3 years after joining, then Zone Chair 3 times (for 11W
twice and 11E once). She has served as Region 11 Chair, as well as District Region
Chair. Linda has also served as District Global Membership Chair. She is the humble
recipient of many awards, among them Helen Keller, Progressive Melvin Jones, 2
Lions International President’s Medals for Excellence in Leadership. Currently, she is
District Global Leadership Chair and a Guiding Lion for the Napanee Lioness Lions.
Linda’s motto is “Dream Big: Nothing is Impossible”. Our District A3 Lions have
already proven they can “Dream Big”, after more than a year of pandemic
lockdowns. For Linda, the 2020-2021 year started out as a disappointment as she
could not visit clubs as intended. That disappointment quickly turned to awe as she
watched the clubs rally, rise to the occasion and provide service in unique ways
never seen before. She had to watch from afar, giving guidance when asked, as well
as verbal and moral support as best as she could.
The past year has been unlike anything Lions have seen before. This current Lions’
year promises to be another unprecedented experience. Great strides have been
made in bringing this virus to its knees, but the future remains uncertain. There is no
way to predict what the next few months hold in store. But the A3 Lions are ready.
Linda is confident that with the leadership of Governor Mark and the whole
Leadership Team, District A3 Lions will rise to new heights and continue to provide
service to those in need. Linda will continue to support clubs, assist when asked, be
available to celebrate successes and to listen to concerns.
Together we stand. “Nothing is Impossible. Keep Dreaming BIG”.
LINDA ZWIER FIRST VICE DISTRICT GOVERNOR
SHARBOT LAKE LIONS CLUB

Hello Lions, and welcome to District A-3 and the wonderful world of Lions. I have been asked to inform you a little bit more about myself. I was born to a rather large family of 10 in
the City of Bruce Mines Ontario. My family moved around Northern Ontario quite a bit until finally settling in Gravenhurst, Ontario. I married a wonderful wife and the awesome mother of my children, and we have 7 wonderful children as well as 6 beautiful grandchildren and one on the way. I currently work at Century Transport where I drive shuttle van to and from the airport. Of course, just like everywhere else, COVID – 19 has caused the work to slow down. But that has not stopped me from doing what I genuinely love to do. And that is working alongside of other Lions sch as yourself. During my almost 20+ years as a Lion, I have served in every position in the Club as well as going as far as District Governor in our District in the Lions year of 2018 – 2019. And here I sit again as your 2nd Vice District Governor for the Lions year 2020 – 2021. Being a Lion has always brough me pride and allowed me to offer my assistance to others through various means. Whether it be working along side another Lion during an event or helping to put together an event with others or even just offering advice to someone that needs a person to listen, I take great joy in knowing that I can do something to help others. Being a Lion has always reminded me of the song, “Lean on Me.” I will always be here for others to lean on when they are not strong, when there are troubles, when there is sorrow. As Lions that is what we should be doing; allowing others to lean on us as we continue to grow in Lionism. As we continue to serve, allow others to lean on you for information, lean on you for experience and lean on you in friendship. I wish each of you a wonderful Lions year and all the best as you continue your service to those is need. And remember, “Lean on me when you need a hand…I’ll be your friend.”

The Lions Club Friendship Arch was designed by Past International Directors Howard Grimm and Vern France. The first Friendship Arch was erected in 1966 on the U.S.- Canada border by the Abbotsford Lions Club of British Columbia, Canada and the Sumas Lions Club of Washington. Since then, hundreds have been placed within towns and cities around the world. The arch stands as a symbol of friendship and commitment between the Lions Club and their community.

O Canada – (English) O Canada! Our Home and Native land! True patriot love in all of us command. With glowing hearts, we see thee rise, The True North strong and free! From far and wide O Canada, we stand on guard for thee. God keep our land, Glorious and free! O Canada, we stand on guard for thee,
O Canada, we stand guard for thee.
The Star-Spangled Banner O say can you see, by the dawn's early light, What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming, Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight, O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming? And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air, Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there; O say does that star-spangled banner yet wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
God Save the Queen God save our gracious Queen! Long live our noble Queen! God save the Queen! Send her victorious, Happy and glorious, Long to reign over us: God save the Queen!

Lions International Pledge I pledge allegiance to my country and
To the cause of peace throughout the world. I believe in the principles of Lionism
As contained in the Lions Code of Ethics. I am proud to be a Lion, dedicated to the service of others.
The Lions Prayer Where Lions meet, be present Lord,
to weld our hearts in one accord. To do thy will, Lord make us strong
to aid the weak, and right the wrong. Amen.
Lions Invocation Lord, as we lions gather here
We pause to offer up this prayer Bless now this food that we partake
And every effort that we make To build the communities in which we live.
And put it in our hearts to give To worthy causes.
Bless the blind, And what we do to serve mankind.
Be with us till we meet again.
Lions Grace O Lord thy blessings now let fall
Upon the Lions as we call May all our tides of friendship be
Forever strengthened Lord by Thee. Amen.

Lions Clubs International Mission Statement
To create and foster a spirit of understanding among all people for
humanitarian needs by providing voluntary services through
community involvement and international cooperation.
Lions International Purposes (Objects)
• To Create and foster a spirit of understanding among the
people of the world.
• To Promote the principles of good government and good
citizenship.
• To Take an active interest in the civic, cultural, social and
moral welfare of the community.
• To Unite the clubs in the bonds of friendship, good fellowship
and mutual understanding
• To Provide a forum for the open discussion of all matters of
public interest; provided, however, that partisan politics and
sectarian religion shall not be debated by club members.
• To Encourage service-minded people to serve their
community without personal financial reward, and to
encourage efficiency and promote high ethical standards in
commerce, industry, professions, public works and private
endeavors.
63
Lions Code of Ethics
• To Show my faith in the worthiness of my vocation by
industrious application to the end that I may merit a
reputation for quality of service.
• To Seek success and to demand all fair remuneration or
profit as my just due, but to accept no profit or success at the
price of my own self-respect lost because of unfair advantage
taken or because of questionable acts on my part.
• To Remember that in building up my business it is not
necessary to tear down another’s, to be loyal to my clients or
customers and true to myself.
• Whenever a doubt arises as to the right or ethics of my
position or actions towards others, to resolve such doubt
against myself.
• To Hold friendship as an end and not a means. To hold that
true friendship exists not on account of the service
performed by one another, but that true friendship demands
nothing but accepts service in the spirit in which it is given.
• Always to bear in mind my obligations as a citizen to my
nation, my state, and my community, as to give them my
unswerving loyalty in word, act, and deed. To give them
freely of my time, labor and means.
• To Aid others by giving my sympathy to those in distress, my
aid to the weak, and my substance to the needy.
• To Be careful with my criticism and liberal with my praise; to
build up and not destroy.
