From The President’s desk---
Rotary years begins on 1st July, but we Rotarians work
throughout the year for betterment of the
community. Person in the president’s chair changes every year
but the good work continues.
Whatever post you have in Rotary, it will be for a year but you
will be a Rotarian for the life.
My Sincere greetings for the Rotary Year 2012-13. The year
2011-12 has been a witness to all round
social transformation across the world, India or Our Rotary
dist.3140. As a part of this progressive
growth, we at Rotary club of Mumbai Mahim, are celebrating
completion of 10 years of service,
service to the community, service with humanity, integrity &
ethics. The most visible endeavours
being Bio gas Installation , help to blind college students,
women Entrepreneur seminar, global
warming seminar & a Mega Musical Event’ Adaa e Adab’. A
decade of enduring commitments & our
‘we can’ spirit, 10 years of striving to make the world a better
place. The invaluable experiences over
the years have definitely enriched our lives.
At this momentous juncture, I feel greatly privileged and
honoured to take the mantle from Rtn.
Suryakumar, as president. As we move forward, we will work hand
in hand, from president to
president and we will lead our club to new heights. By working
together, we can take on more
challenges. I thank you for entrusting the stewardship to me
this year & I assure you that I will be
careful and will try to be a responsible to manage the task

‘A leader is a dealer in Hope’ said the great Nepolian Bonapart.
So I hope to get support from my
entire fellow Rotarians & guidance from district. I will
definitely try to live up to be Champion 12 in
this Olympic Year, i.e. faster higher & stronger . That is
the theme of the year ‘Stand up, Be ready &
then go for it, Swim like a fish, run as fast as you can, lift
as much as you can, mould yourself, be
tricky, jump as high as you can, fly like a bird, speed your
car, lift yourself high, be soft, aim, kick,
reach your goal, be faster, be higher, be a champion.’
We are proud to be a leader in various service projects .The
ongoing projects like Mid day meal &
Educational support to Blind students in colleges, help to
Physically & mentally challenged children,
Computer & other educational support for slum & street
children. Support in Disha projects, medical
camps & environment protection projects like Bio Gas units,
tree plantation etc will continue in the
current year. As desired by DG Dr. Bal, Protstahan, Vikas,
Astitva, Parisar & generation next will
get the main importance while planning the projects for the
coming year. The first step for next
generation leadership, we have planned to form a new Rotaract
Club at Matunga for students of
Ruia, Podar & Wellingkar colleges.
We will retain the current strength of the club & will
attempt to increase it by 50% by the end of the
year. On Installation day, we Inducted 10 new members & one
on Chartered Night. So with 40%
increase, we have now grown up from 27 members to 38 very strong
hands, Thanks to the efforts put
in by all the members. With more hands we can take up more
challenges & do more for the society.
Our dream projects are installation of solar power in villages
near Dahanu, providing 12 more Bio
Gas Units in Zarap make total 80, a Mega event of acknowledging
physically handicapped
entrapreuneurs .To begin the year with Champion spirit, my
team’s first project ‘project Read’ as
planned by DG Dr. bal, We have donated 1200 books on 1st of July
under this project . In the Service
12 projects we will be partner for a Carnival for Differently
abled in Nov. 2012.
July is the month of enthusiasm, new Ideas, new plans. We
celebrated our Chartered Night on 6th July
2012. Our Assistant Governor Rtn. Sanjay Shah with his spouse
Rtn. Vaijayanti graced the occasion &
inducted our 11th member of the year, shri Sunil Sharma,
Automobile dealer by profession. On 11th
July, we distributed Education hamper to a school ‘Dadar Vidya
mandir’ which was a very touching
experience for us. On 13th July, we went to Tata Hospital to
distribute color books, pencils, and sketch
pens to Palliative paediatrics Unit. On 21st we had tree
plantation & a social visit to a school with
difference. We donated 108 books for the library of that school.
Then on 24th July we donated clothes
to boys from an orphanage at Naigaum Dadar. On 28th July we had
a presentation on Meditation by
Shri Jagtap of ‘Sahaj Yoga Kendra.’
In all, it was a month of many activities, like continuous tides
on the shores of RCMM. Let’s keep
sailing along with Mahim Waves.

Club Programs and Activities for July
Charter Nite – 6th July
It was a great moment for members of RCMM family on the evening
of Friday 6 July 2012
at Status Hotel, Shivaji Park when the charter nite of the club
was being celebrated. Our
Club was chartered on 26 June 2002 and we have completed one
full decade of
excellence. On behalf of our Club Rtn Uma Venkatesh welcomed our
AG Sanjay Shah and
his wife Vaijayanthi and OSD Raghunath Nadkarni and his wife
Alka and thanked them for
their gracious presence.
The variety entertainment program began with a 20 minute
interactive workshop on
stress management by Rtn. S. Venkateswaran. Using a role model
concept, he concluded
saying - ‘Look Inside To Manage Ur Stress’ – the LITMUS Test. He
also quoted an
appropriate verse from the Bhagavad Gita (Verse 5 of Chapter 6)
to substantiate his
point. President Uma Sahasrabudhe gave a surprise gift to our
Club in the form of two
posters – one thanking all the ten previous presidents and the
other containing
photograph and names of proud members of the RCMM family. She
added that these
two posters will be displayed at all our weekly meetings.
Rtn Sandhya brought a huge cake to celebrate the birthday of
Prakash Samudra, Vijay
Kulkarni and Varsha Parulekar. Rtn Vidya read a poem for her
Husband Rtn Vijay
comparing his noble qualities with that of a Rainbow. Kishore
Parulekar sang a romantic
song for his wife Rtn Varsha and Sandhya spoke words of praise
on her husband Prakash
Samudra.
There were loads of songs supported by professional musicians
and the in-house talents
rocked the evening with a stream of enchanting music including a
musical performance
by young upcoming talent Madhur Padwal – son of Rtn Sunita
Padwal. There was a
standing ovation for Madhur. All the members enjoyed the musical
program.

Distribution of Educational Hamper at Dadar Vidya Mandir
At RCMM we have lot of focus on young generation. Dadar Vidya
Mandir is a school where
children from Dharavi Slums study, sometimes teachers literally
catch them and bring to
school. To help them in study, Educational hampers were
distributed to 108 students. It was
a very emotional experience. Students were all from Dharavi
Slums. They have very rarely
smelled the new books & note books leave aside the brand new
compass boxes. So when we
distributed the compass boxes & experiments books &
drawing books they were so happy &
immediately wrote their names on the books. A sense of
possession of something valuable
was so touching to watch. The teachers were so devoted &
were very friendly with the
students. In terms of SV’s philosophy we had f1,f2,f3 & so
on & on.

Those Twelve Hours – Visit to Badlapur – 21st July
It was 7 am and fourteen Rotarians from RCMM along with a
special guest Sarah -
special because she is only 16 years and has come all the way
from Germany (daughter
of one of the senior management members of UHDE) - boarded the
bus at Dadar for an
exciting journey to Badlapur (60 kms from Mumbai).
We reached the ‘Gurukul’ School with a difference at Badlapur at
8.45 am. The school is
with a difference since the children are trained to have all
round development – from
academics to sports to music to arts to vocational training to
extra- curricular activities
and even to spiritual training. Students enjoy and never get
tired with the 12 hour
routine and most of them willingly attend the school even on
Sundays.
We realised that some of the students were waiting for our
arrival to demonstrate
'Yoga' by delaying their breakfast - normally taken at 8.30
am.
The yoga demonstration by the students was truly 'Mind over
Matter'. Such was the
discipline with which they performed under instructions from
their Master that they
could change the different yogic positions in quick succession
effortlessly.
Yoga Demonstration Breakfast Time
It was 9.30 am and time for breakfast sitting on the floor with
tiny tots. Uma as usual
was at her best in bringing joy and enthusiasm in them by giving
an extempore speech.
Sarah appeared to be a seasoned member of RCMM patiently sitting
on the floor
awaiting the breakfast.

We then proceeded to Apte’s farm at ‘Sonavale’ and it was a
truly refreshing experience
with all round greenery. To top it all we had our regular weekly
meeting in the open
area - meeting in a ‘Gurukul’ style. Rtn Sunil Sharma rose to
the occasion and
demonstrated his "sergeant at arms" spirit by quickly creating
the backdrop at the
'meeting venue'. One of the highlights of the meeting was report
on musical program in
memory of Salonee by Rtn Suryakumar followed by Rtn SV's speech
paying tribute to
Salonee's "Never Say Die" attitude.
Apte’s Farm at Sonavale Weekly Meeting in Progress SV – Tribute
to Salonee
Tree plantation at the Apte Farm was an enjoyable experience.
Excellent arrangements
were made by the Apte's (Vinayak's b-in-law family). Everyone
welcomed the mouth-
watering 'Vada Paav' after the rigorous tree plantation work at
the farm.
Tree Plantation Dip in the Pool
Returning back to the sports complex adjacent to the Gurukul
School, a dip in the pool
was a welcome relief for all from the sultry weather. We could
here whisper that 'Age is
no bar to have fun in the water'.

A sumptuous lunch was served at the sports complex canteen and
it was delicious as
well as nutritious
A brief function then followed to felicitate Mr. Deshpande,
Principal of Gurukul School
which was preceded by few fine arts performance by the students.
From RCMM, we
donated books to their library and a scanner which was greatly
appreciated by their
management.
Felicitation and Entertainment by Students
Sarah felt like a celebrity when the girl students literally
mobbed her and admired her
simplicity and readiness to partake in their program items.
It was 5 pm and time to depart. All students heartily waved from
the second floor telling
'bye' to all of us. They truly felt our presence and
encouragement
Rtn Sandhya's excellent transport arrangement ensured that we
had a safe journey back
to Mumbai reaching at 7 pm completing a wonderful, memorable 12
hours!!

Meditation with Sahaja Yoga by Mr. Jagtap Mr. Jagtap of Sahaj
Yoga explained Self Realisation is the activating of the life
force
within us, the awakening of the central energy (Kundalini), when
it flows, this life force
rises through a number of subtle centres (Chakras) each of which
contribute to our
health, well being, peace and vitality.
On behalf of RCMM, SV thanked Mr. Jagtap for providing an
overview of Sahaja Yoga
exercise.

On 24th July RCMM members visited a Family Home Guild of Service
- an orphanage for boys between the ages of 6years to 12years. The
Orphanage is situated at Naigaum Dadar. It houses 20 boys who are
looked after by devoted staff. Our club has donated a pair of
clothes to each of the 20 boys which brought a smile on their
faces. The boys have promised to wear their new dresses on Raksha
Bandhan day. It was a very satisfying experience to the members who
attended it .Our new member; Sunil Sharma took active part in the
donation function & have shown Champion's spirit.
