Disney Planes Wing Control Dusty Crophopper Radio Control Plane Review

The pictures on the box make it appear that there is a plane in this box that will actually fly, but like with many products these days, the disclaimer at the bottom of the box explains that in reality, "This is not a flying toy".
Setting that aside and understanding this is for a child under 6, it really is alrught that this is not a real flying machine that would be beyond the capability of the user.
We believe this a good starter kit to introduce a child to radio controlled toys. Even though the box recommends age 10 or older, with some adult supervision, a younger child can deal with the principles of the unit and have fun.
Positives:
* The child does experience some flying motion by their actions of wearing a controller
* The spinning propeller does seem to be safe to the touch, although I read some other reviews that were cautious about this
* There is an automatic shut off to conserve battery life.
* It ties to Disney PLANES series
Limits
* It is a bit hard to really control Dusty's motions
* One does need a large, flat area to play upon
* It does not move through a lawn or an unswept driveway (better outside)
* It does consume batteries

Four AA and two AAA batteries are required to power Dusty, and the small controls which fit over your child's hands control the toy's actions. What is really neat is Dusty becomes more of a playmate than a toy, since it moves however your child does. And unlike some other movie based toys, Dusty's voice is very clear, and accurately portrays the character in the film. This is also a toy your child can sit down and play with when not using remote control operation.

The toy measures roughly 11" x 6" x 11", and weighs about 2 pounds. On hardwood, linoleum and other flat floor surfaces, Dusty rolls perfectly, and even on low shag carpet. A flat concrete or patio surface is fine, but grass and heavy shag carpeting will probably not get the experience your child is looking for. The rolling plane's propeller starts spinning whenever he moves forward, and there are three preprogrammed moves your child can perform at the touch of a button.

The spinning propeller does not go fast enough to hurt or alarm your child if it is grabbed, and the bigger, more open area you have for your child to play in, the better. The Disney Planes Wing Control Dusty Crophopper Radio Control Plane is a great medium priced toy that will be a big hit for any children who love the Disney Cars and Planes movies, and is great for keeping your child active since his or her actions control the performance of the rolling plane.
