Discussion Representation of the Human Figure For my unit four project I have decided to choose the eighth question, representation of a human figure. As I enjoyed my unit three personal project so much, where I chose makeup as my topic of choice, I wanted to be able to pick a topic for unit four that would allow me to explore further what I had began to touch on in unit three as well as investigate additionally into things I had not yet looked at – I feel question eight has given me this opportunity. The question topic is very broad to me as ‘representation’, as long as justified or in the case of photography has a visual meaning, can be left to a matter of opinion. I also looked at two alternative exam questions that caught my attention, ‘fantasy’ and ‘photo essay’, and although I liked elements of them both I felt slightly restricted with ‘fantasy’ and felt ‘photo essay’ would lead me straying more from what I usually like to photograph. ‘Fantasy’ is something that appealed to me as I felt it would allow me to expand on things I had began to touch on in my unit three project. I thoroughly enjoyed creating fantasy or ‘alien’ makeup looks that were different and showed my creative development in both my makeup looks and photography. I also felt during these shoots I was able to develop my work in terms of pose and expression of my subjects. ‘Photo essay’ on the other hand caught my attention as it was something different from the other questions. I felt this was a topic that would have allowed me to really expand my body of work so far and look at multiple different things – it’s a question that is very extensive and something that

DiscussionRepresentation of the Human Figure

For my unit four project I have decided to choose the eighth question, representation of a human figure.

I felt this was a topic that would have allowed me to really expand my body of work so far and look at multiple different things – it’s a question that is very extensive and something that is open to interpretation and individual opinion. When deciding on what to finally pick though, I felt that ‘Representation of Human Figure’ was the topic that would be allow me to expand on my unit three project as well as incorporate the other two questions should I want to.

My editing skills are something I would like to address on this unit. I have always preferred my work when keeping the editing I do to a minimal, but in this unit I am going to try an incorporate more and expand upon the skills I have already acquired in the last 3 units, but in a way that still stays true to the style that I have started to mature. Though there are many techniques that I have explored over the last year and a half in photography, I don’t think any accurately reflect my style of work – I prefer my photos in a more raw state – nevertheless, I am planning on broadening my body of work by experimenting more myself with techniques I have yet discovered or looked at.

I feel confident in the question that I have chosen and I think that it is going to provide me with a great starting point for my unit four project. I also feel this is

yet another project (like that of unit three) in which I will retain interest and not be stuck for ideas.
