• The mission of Discovery Canyon Campus, a

Homework Policy
• Middle school homework may be given Monday through
Friday.
– Grade 6 – 50 academic minutes daily maximum
– Grade 7 – 60 academic minutes daily maximum
– Grade 8 – 70 academic minutes daily maximum
• If a child is consistently unable to complete assigned work,
the parent should contact the teacher first for support
and accommodations as necessary. Teachers should also
contact parents if a child consistently is unable to complete
the assigned work.
– Daily work assignments are considered late if submitted after the
teacher’s established due date.
– The highest grade a student may earn on a late daily work assignment is
a 90%.
– Daily work received after the end of the unit will not be accepted.
Academic Lab
• Academic Lab is a supervised, silent work
period where a student will be expected to
complete unfinished or missing homework.
• Wednesday during Thundertime
• Students who consistently fail to turn
homework in on time may be assigned to
ASH, MASH, Academic After School
Detention, or Saturday School to replace
academic lab if it is not successful.
High Trails Information
• High Trails Information Night - May 8th from 6:00 PM
until 7:30 PM at the Liberty High School Auditorium.
• An additional meeting will be held on August 17th
from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the DCCMS Cafetorium

BAND
INFORMATION
Beginning Instrumental Music Classes
● All instrumental music classes at DCCMS are designed for
beginning students with limited experience playing an
instrument.
● Students may choose an orchestra or a band instrument.
● At our placement nights, students will try out a variety of
instruments to see which instrument fits them the best and
which one they are most excited about!
● Students with prior experience playing a band/orchestra
instrument are encouraged to try a new instrument for the
first semester of classes. They may switch back to their
primary instrument in the 2nd semester of classes.
● Our music program features a band and orchestra for each grade
level.
● All 6th Grade classes are designed for beginning students on
their instrument.
● 6th Grade Classes offered include Beginning Brass, Beginning
percussion, Beginning Woodwinds and Beginning Strings
● We have a before school Jazz Band for 7th/8th Graders and an
8th Grade Jazz Band Class
● Students who participate in the program will go perform at
concerts, participate in field trips, be eligible to audition for honor
bands/orchestras and more!
● Students must pay a $15 participation fee at the beginning of the
semester.

All students are required to purchase a practice pad and rent a
practice marimba for home practice.

● Almost 140 students participate in our high school music
ensembles led by Mr. Justin Carpenter!
● Class offerings include

● Our band students participate in many trips and festivals
throughout the year.
● Last year DCC High School had the most students make
the Colorado All-State Band in District 20!
● This year, the DCC High School Music Program is traveling
to play in New York City!
High School Band/Orchestra
We have a Jazz Band Club open to 7th/8th Grade students that
meets from 7:20 AM to 8:05 AM Tuesdays and Thursdays
before school. This group plays at concerts, school
assemblies, after-school events and more!
○ Any instrument is invited to perform with the group.
○ Students must audition for a spot in the rhythm section
(bass, guitar, piano, drum set)
We have a Jazz Band Class open to all 8th Grade Band
students in the Spring Semester.
○ Depending on student interest, we may hold auditions
for this group.
○ This group also performs at concerts and assemblies!
They have the opportunity to travel for performances at
festivals and competitions as well.
DCCMS Jazz Band
Academy District 20 offers summer classes for incoming 6th Grade students
just starting out on their instruments. They also offer advanced classes for
more experienced students! These classes provide individualized,
personalized instruction for students, and are a surefire way to ensure
success for your student as they prepare to begin band in the fall. Continuing
students can also participate in more advanced ensembles and continue to
have fun making music with students from around the district!
Students may register online starting April 7th, and may pay for the sessions
through PayForIt.

● DCCMS is able to rent out larger instruments such as
Euphoniums, Tubas, Cellos, String Basses, Bass Clarinets, Tenor
and Baritone Saxophones and Percussion Equipment to students
on a first-come-first serve basis for $50 per semester.
● Instruments are available to be rented out before school begins
in August during the DCCMS Instrument Rental Night for
incoming 6th Grade students
● Smaller Instruments will need to be rented through a local music
company.
● Scholarships are available to students with financial need.
