In our daily conversation, at times we have to propose our disagreements with positive remarks.

We express disagreements with affirmative remark by “No/Oh no + negative auxiliary”.

If there is an auxiliary in the first verb, it is repeated. If no, do, does or did is used.

She sings well.

No, she doesn’t.

That’s Susi! Oh, no, it isn’t.

I can do it. No, you can’t.

Living in vizag is costlier.

No, it isn’t.

“But” can be when disagreeing with an assumption. The assumption may be expressed by a question.

Why did you give me a ring?

But I didn’t.

Why did Rahul shout at you?

But he didn’t.
