1. Introduction

1.1. About DirectReader

DirectReader connects with not only your PC and file server, it supports instant, secure access to

all your company information from all popular mobile devices.

With DirectReader, you can access your PC or file server data wherever you go. The Open In

function lets you view a file with another application.

Even if your file server and PC are turned off, you can check files downloaded through

DirectReader.

1.2. Main Features

Access to All Your Files

With DirectReader, you can access your PC or file server data wherever you go. You don’t need to

upload or sync your data to the cloud. You simply “get mobilized.”

Faster and Easier Access

With DirectReader, you don’t need to upload files to web storage or save them on a USB drive.

Instead, you get instant access to all files on your PC or office file server. Security is reinforced by

user authentication/PIN code and encryption. There’s also no need to convert files because

DirectReader supports standard file formats, including document files such as Word, Excel, and

PowerPoint; image files such as PDF, TXT, JPG, PNG, and GIF; and music files such as MP3 and

WAV. Plus, you can easily view files with the relevant application by using the Open In function.

Check downloaded files even though your server or PC is off.

2. Install DirectReader

To access corporate files from your mobile device, you must install DirectReader and you must

also install PC Agent on your computer to enable access from your mobile device. This chapter

will guide you through the installation of DirectReader and PC Agent.

Caution

This document uses the iOS image from an iPad, which is different than the

OS image from an Android device.

2.1. Install DirectReader

How to Install

1. Click on a web browser from your mobile device.

2. Enter the DirectReader download URL distributed by your Administrator in the web

browser ’s address window. Except in particular cases, the DirectReader download URL is

http://Company Domain.

When the download page appears, click on the OS of your mobile device to download the

application.

3. When the installation is completed, you’ll see the DirectReader application icon on the

mobile device main screen.

4. The installation is complete. To run DirectReader, tap the icon.

2.2. Install PC Agent

Caution

Although we provide PC Agent, your company’s security policy may not

allow its installation.

How to Install

1. Start your PC’s web browser.

2. Enter the DirectReader download URL distributed by your Administrator in the web

browser ’s address window. Except in particular cases, the DirectReader download URL will

be http://Company Domain.

3. When the download page appears, click the [PC Agent] icon.

4. The run or save message will appear. Click the [Run] button.

5. An alert message asking if you want to run the software will appear. Click the [Run] button.

6. After the setup file download is completed, start DirectReader installation by clicking the

[Next] button.

7. A message asking if you agree to the License Agreement will appear. Click the [I Agree]

button.

8. Installation of DirectReader begins.

9. When DirectReader installation is complete, you’ll see the following screen.

10. The DirectReader PC Agent icon will appear on the PC’s desktop and in the tray, as shown

below.

11. Right-clicking on the tray icon will show the following menu options:

Demo: View IDs currently accessing to PC Agent.

Settings: Set up PC Agent.

Logout: Disconnect the PC Agent.

Exit: Close the tray.

12. Run DirectReader PC Agent and enter your ID, password (PW), and URL to log in.

2.2.1. PC Agent Language Settings

How to Use

1. Settings > Language > Select from English / Korean / Japanese:

After the auto-restart notification appears, the menu will change to the selected

language.

2. Settings> Language > Startup

If you check the Startup box, run DirectReader agent automatically when window

starts.

2.2.2. PC Agent Access Folder Settings

How to Use

1. Settings > Folder to Access > All Folders

Clicking here lets you view the folder list of the PC on which PC Agent is installed.

2. Settings> Folder to Access > Selected Folders

Clicking here provides access only to the folders you specify.

[+] : The folders specified by you are added in order.

[-] : The folders specified by you are deleted in order.

3. Features

Caution

The following explanation is based on PC Agent being installed on your PC.

If PC Agent is not installed, only the server directory will be shown on

DirectReader.

Even if PC Agent is installed, company security policy may not allow it to

access your PC.

3.1. Login/Logout

3.1.1. Login

You must log in to use DirectReader.

How to Use

1. Tap the DirectReader icon on your mobile device.

2. Enter your ID, password, the DirectReader Server URL, and then click the [Login] button.

3. If a PIN code is required in the DirectReader settings, the Enter PIN code screen will

appear after login. Enter your PIN code. For more information on PIN code setup, see 6.2

PIN Code

4. If you successfully log in, the directory of folders you can access will appear.

3.1.2. Logout

If you close the application without logging out, you’ll be able to access DirectReader

again without following the login process and will return to the last thing you were

working on. For security reasons, however, we recommend you log out each time

after using DirectReader.

1. Tap the Settings icon in the left-hand menu.

2. The Settings screen will appear. Click the [Logout] button.

3. You’ll return to the Login screen.

3.2. View File

DirectReader supports standard file formats, including document files such as Word, Excel,

and PowerPoint; image files such as PDF, TXT, JPG, PNG, and GIF; and music files such as

MP3 and WAV. Plus, you can easily view files with the relevant application by using the

Open In function.

Zoom in & Zoom out

Zoom in or zoom out by using two fingers to stretch or compress the

screen.

To move the screen in zoomed-in status, use two fingers to drag.

3.2.1. View

How to Use

1. Click on [My Directory] in the left-hand menu. The accessible folder information

will appear.

2. Click on the folder you want to open. A list of the folders and files it contains will

appear.

Clicking on the icon on the top right of the screen will cancel your action and return

you to the previous page.

3. Select the file you want to view. The following menu will appear. Click [View] to

open the file. Click [Cancel] to close the dropdown menu.

4. The selected file opens for viewing. The menu and file information shown below will

appear. Touch the screen once to hide the menu.

2: Take a memo by “handwriting” on the file.

3: Download the file.

4: View the file with another application using the Open In function.

5: Attach the file to an email. Clicking here will switch you to mail mode.

6: Close the file.

7: Turn over pages of the file.

3.2.2. Handwriting

The handwriting function lets you create a memo, edit, or delete the current file.

Caution

DirectReader support handwriting only on the PDF file format.

Files are automatically stored on the DirectReader Server after

shutdown, so memos on them remain.

The files with handwriting will have an icon in front of the

file name and saved in [Memo].

How to Use

1. Select a file to open in View mode. The menu and file information will appear as

shown below. Touch the screen once to hide the menu.

2. Click the icon on the top right of the screen.

You can now use the handwriting function on the current file.

3. Click the icon on the top right of the screen to see the 5 colors available:

black, blue, red, orange, and yellow. Tap the screen once to hide the color

choices.

Select the color you want to use and create a memo or draw.

4. Create or edit a memo using the icons in the top right-hand menu.

1: File Name: The name of the file you’re currently viewing.

2: Color: The color you used last will be shown here.

3: Eraser: Delete a memo with the eraser.

4: Delete all: Delete the entire memo with one touch.

5: Exit: Return to the previous menu page, where you’ll see the original options:

3.2.3. Open In

The Open In function shows the available applications you can use to open the chosen

file and lets you select the preferred application.

How to Use

1. Click on the folder you want to open. Folder and file information will appear.

2. Select the file you wish to view. The following menu will appear. Select the [Open in]

menu option.

4. Select the application with which to open the file.

3.2.4. Download File

This function lets you select and download a file. You can also check which files you

have downloaded on the Downloads screen.

How to Use

1. Click on the folder you want to open. Folder and file information will appear.

2. Select the file you wish to view. The following menu will appear. Select the

[Download] menu option.

3. The file will be downloaded and will appear on the Downloads screen.

3.2.5. Send Email

This function lets you send a file attached to an email.

How to Use

1. Click on the folder you want to open. Folder and file information will appear.

2. Select the file you want to view. The following menu will appear. Select the [Send

to mail] menu option.

3. The selected file will be attached to an email. Enter the recipient’s email address, the

subject, and your message. Click the [Send] button to send the email. Click the

[Cancel] button if you want to cancel the email.

4. Meeting Room

The Meeting Room feature creates a virtual directory and lets you share presentation

files with others. With DirectReader, you can create a Meeting Room, invite

participants to join your meeting, and view a shared presentation file in real time.

Types of Meeting Rooms

There are 3 types of Meeting Rooms:

My Room: The room you created.

Invited Room: The room to which you were invited.

Guest Room: A room created by others without specified members

will appear in the Invited Room section.

A room with a password is a private room and is marked with a

icon. The password is required for users to join that room.

4.1. Create Meeting Room

1. Select the [Meeting Room] option from the left-hand menu on the main screen.

Accessing the Help Menu

Select the Meeting Room option and then click the icon at the

bottom left of the screen to check the Help menu.

2. My Room and Invited Room will be listed separately.

My Room: The room you created will appear.

Invited Room: The room to which you were invited will appear.

Click the [+] button to create a new room.

Home: Click the icon to return to the main screen.

3. You can set up the permissions of attendees.

Password: Click [ON] to set up a password for the Meeting Room.

Open In: Click [ON] to allow invited users to use the Open In function.

Download: Click [ON] to allow invited users to use the Download function.

Send to mail: Click [ON] to allow invited users to use the Email function.

4. Click [Create] to create a Meeting Room. Click the icon to delete a

Meeting Room.

4.2. Invite Users

How to Use

1. Select a Meeting Room from the My Room list to which you wish to invite users.

2. You will see the icon next to the Meeting Room name.

If you want to modify the Meeting Room name or status, make the changes and then

click the [Save] button.

Click the icon to exit.

Click the icon to return to the main screen.

Caution

You can only modify or delete Meeting Rooms you have created.

If you delete a Meeting Room, all the files in that room will also

be deleted; however, you can always find the original files in My

Directory.

3. You can search, add, or delete users from a Meeting Room.

Click [+] next to Attendee and the user list will appear. Enter the user ’s ID or email

address to search for users.

Click [+] to add users to the Attendee list.

Click [-] to delete users from the Attendee list.

4.3. Start Meeting Room

How to Use

1. Enter the Meeting Room you just created.

2. Add a file to present in the Meeting Room.: Click the [+] icon next to Files. The

accessible folder of DirectReader files will appear.

Select the file you want for the presentation by choosing from the file options. The

selected file will be added to the Meeting Room.

3. Click on the added file and the [Start] and [View] icons will appear on the

right side of the screen.

[Start]: Start the presentation.

[View]: View the file.

Assigning Roles

When you click the [Start] option, the icon will appear in front of the

presenter ’s ID.

The icon will appear in front of attendee’s names.

4. Click [View] to check the selected file before sharing it. You can change to

presentation mode by using menu at the top of the screen.

0: Change to full screen mode.

1: The name of the file you’re currently viewing.

2: Start the presentation.

3: Create a memo by handwriting on the current file.

4: Download the file.

5: View the file with another application using the [Open In] function.

6: Attach the file to an email. Clicking here will switch you to mail mode.

7: Close the file.

8: Turn over pages of the file.

Navigating Files

When the Meeting starts, you can turn over to the previous/next

page by using the left/right scroll functions.

You can go directly to the page you want by using the scroll

function.

5. Click the icon to change to full screen mode and click the icon to send

invitation popups to the attendees.

[OK]: Starts the presentation of the current file and sends a message to

attendees in the same Meeting Room to join.

[Cancel]: Exits the presentation.

6. Click [OK] to start the presentation and use the top right menu options during

the meeting: . .

Collaborating in the Meeting Room

If you are the presenter, use the handwriting function and create

memos, edit, or move pages. The changes will be applied to the

participants’ screens in real time.

4.4. Send Invitation

1. If you created the Meeting Room, click the icon to send invitations via

email to other users.

2. Enter an email address and click the [Send] button.

3. Click [OK] to complete the invitation.

4. To join the Meeting Room, the recipient clicks on the link in the email.

5. When the recipient clicks the email link, a browser will open and the current

presentation file will appear.

Browser Options

DirectReader supports not only Internet Explorer but also Chrome, Firefox,

Opera, Safari, and Mobile Safari browsers.

6. Attendees can use the following functions:

1: If an attendee leaves the presenter ’s page, the icon will appear.

Click the icon to return to the ongoing presentation page.

2: Move to the previous page.

3: Move to the next page.

4: Zoom out the current screen.

5: Zoom in the current screen.

4.5. Join Meeting Room

How to Use

1. When you enter the Meeting Room, you’ll receive the following confirmation

message:

Memo Options

Attendees can create memos separately from the presenter, but they

cannot be deleted.

After the presentation, both the presenter ’s and the attendees’

memos will be saved.

3. If the presenter ends the presentation, attendees will receive a notification popup.

4. Click [OK] to view file or [Cancel] to exit without viewing the file.

[Start]: Start a presentation as a new presenter.

[View]: View the file.

[Join]: Join the Meeting Room.

5. Click the icon to exit the Meeting Room.

5. Other Features

5.1. Set up Favorites Folder

The Favorites function lets you access selected folders in one step without going

through many folders.

How to Use

1. Click the star icon after a folder name. When the star color changes to yellow, the

folder has been added to your Favorites.

2. Click the [Favorites] option in the left-hand menu. The list of folders marked as

Favorites will appear.

5.2. Recent Files

How to Use

1. Click the [Recents] option in the left-hand menu. A list of recently viewed files will

appear.

2. Select the file you wish to [View], [Open in], [Download], [Send to mail], or

[Delete]. Click [Cancel] to close the dropdown menu.

5.3. Downloaded File

How to Use

1. Click the [Downloads] option in the left-hand menu.

2. A list of downloaded files will appear. Select the file you wish to [View], [Open in], [Send

to mail], or [Delete]. Click [Cancel] to close the dropdown menu.

1. Click the [Memo] option in the left-hand menu.

2. A list of the files using the handwriting function will appear. Select the file you wish to

[View], [Open in], [Download], [Send to mail], or [Delete]. Click [Cancel] to close

the dropdown menu.

5.5 Offline login

How to Use

1. Only successfully logged in accounts can be logged in offline.

Caution

Even if you delete a file in the [Memo] list, you can always find it in

[My Directory]; however, a list of files with handwriting will not appear.

What is Offline login?

If network is not available such as airplane mode or WiFi / LTE is unstable, you can [View]

[open in] [Send to mail] [Memo] with ID which was successfully logged in before.

2. Click “Offline login” button to activate [offline login] and click Login button.

6. Settings

6.1. Auto Login

Set Auto Login to access DirectReader without entering your ID and password every time

you wish to login.

How to Set Up

1. Click the [Settings] option in the left-hand menu.

2. Click the [Auto Login] button to activate the function.

3. Auto Login setup is now complete and will let you automatically login when DirectReader

is activated.

6.2. PIN Code

A PIN code is the 4-digit code that only you know and must enter to login. If you have set

the PIN code option, you need to enter the PIN code after you login with your ID and

password to access DirectReader.

How to Set Up

1. Click the [Settings] option in the left-hand menu.

2. Click the [PIN Code] button to activate the function.

3. Enter a 4-digit PIN code to register the code with DirectReader.

4. Re-enter the PIN code for confirmation.

5. Your PIN code registration is complete. The next time you login, you’ll be asked for

your PIN code to access DirectReader.

6.3. Sorting

Sort DirectReader files and folders.

How to Set Up

1. Click the [Settings] option in the left-hand menu.

2. Click the [Sorting] button.

3. The [Sorting] menu will appear. Choose from [Sort By Date], [Sort By Name],

[Sort By Type], or [Sort By Size] and then click [OK].

1. [Sort By Date]: Sort by the created date of files and folders.

2. [Sort By Name]: Sort by the file/folder name.

3. [Sort By Type]: Sort by the file/folder type.

4. [Sort By Size]: Sort by the size of the files and folders.

5. : Sort by ascending within the chosen option.

6. : Sort by descending within the chosen option.
