These are shippers who can ship your product via railtoday and ultimately help you lower your transportation costs. Rail is the most economical way to move freight today. It’s more fuel-efficient than trucksand it can handle up to three times more weight than the average truck can. CSX: Rail Solutions

CSX offers a number of different ways for you to integrate rail into your transportation

mix, from Rail Direct services for customers who are rail served to Rail to Truck for those

who aren’t. But regardless of whether you are rail served or not, CSX will work with you

to develop a customized solution that meets your transportation needs AND lowers your

costs. Some of the solutions we have developed for customers include:

Rail Direct

Freight is railed directly from the shipper to the receiver. This is the most economicalmeans of integrating rail into the transportation mix but requires both the shipper and thereceiver to be rail served.

Rail to Truck

Freight is railed to a central warehouse where it is immediately cross-docked and placedon a truck for local delivery to the customer. As part of this service, CSX can locate andarrange for both the warehousing and trucking of the product. Customers can even usetheir own fleet of trucks for pick-up. This solution works best for customers who are notrail served but who can take railcar-size quantities at one time.

Rail to Warehouse

Freight is railed directly to a nearby warehouse where it can be stored for pick-up ordelivery to the customer. CSX can arrange for both the warehousing and the trucking.This solution is ideal for customers who cannot take a railcar-size load at one time andinstead want to stagger delivery of the product from the warehouse.

Load Sharing

Freight is consolidated onto a railcar at the shipper, railed to a central point, broken upand trucked to multiple final destinations. Customers can either pick the product up intheir own trucks or trucking can be arranged to the final destination. This service isdesigned for customers who have several facilities ordering the same product but don’thave a rail-served distribution center to serve them from.

Forward Position

Freight is railed to a warehouse and forward positioned for later pick-up by the customer.This service is built around those customers who lack sufficient warehouse space but whowant to have ready access to a constant supply of product that they can access.

Enhanced Services

CSX provides customers a number of enhanced services. From expedited delivery of

product to electronically tracking shipments over the Internet to our multi-modal

solutions, our services are designed to help move food as effortlessly as possible. It’s all

part of our Ease of Doing Business Initiative, designed to make using rail easy and

seamless. Some of the ways we do that include:

Express Lane (Expedited service)

Express Lane offers expedited service from the West Coast and certain points on the EastCoast for perishables and foodstuff, especially produce. This joint program between CSXand Union Pacific provides customers a guaranteed and safe alternative to the high costof trucking.

Food Warehouse Network (Warehousing)

Food Warehouse Network is a network of over 300 food-grade warehouses located nearevery major market in the Eastern United States. These warehouses offer cross-docking,storage, load consolidation, local pickup and delivery and more. Industrial Development (Site selection)

Our Industrial Development (ID) team works with customers to develop the right railinfrastructure. By working with contractors, builders and local governments, ID can help you from conception to start-up including site selection, location analysis andengineering design.

Sail to Rail offers customers cost effective and efficient transportation for internationalcargo. ShipCSX (e-Tracking)

ShipCSX is an interactive online tool designed to simplify our customers’ rail experience.Using ShipCSX, customers can obtain prices, order cards, track shipments and more. And it’s all available through our CSX website.

Total Solutions (Multi-modal)

CSX offers customers a total solution option that combines rail, warehouse and truckinginto one, complete transportation package. We'll begin by looking at your currenttransportation mix and then we'll work with you on the best way to integrate rail into yourexisting supply chain, using the right combination of modes that maximizes your savings.

Wine Connection (Expedited service)

Wine Connection is an innovative service from CSX, Union Pacific and the Hub Group thatprovides the latest in insulated equipment to move wine from the West Coast to the EastCoast. We can even consolidate loads of different wineries, allowing even the smallestshipper to realize rail savings.

Zero Defect Management (Customer start-up)

CSX works with hundreds of different shippers to move food products around the

country. On the pages that follow, you will find a listing of these shippers broken out by

the products they move. These are shippers who use rail today and whom you can work

with to get your product moving by rail to lower your transportation costs.

When shipping by rail, it’s important to know about railcars and how much product can fit

onto one. That’s why we’ve included here the equipment used to transport each product

and the truck-to-rail ratio, the ratio of how many trucks can fit onto a railcar when moving

a particular product. We’ve also included more detailed information about rail equipment

in the back of this directory. Use this information to help you determine your cost

savings when looking at rail prices.

CSX Rail Equipment50' Boxcar

Boxcars are used for loads that must be protected from the weather. Boxcars can be equipped

with load cushioning underframes or rigid underframes. Standard boxcars carry from 70 to 100

tons. CSX standard boxcars come with single sliding or plug doors. Some are equipped with

bulkhead load devices.

60' Boxcar

These cars are similar to a 50' standard boxcar but longer in length. All CSX 60' cars have

cushioned underframes. The CSX-owned cars have either a plug or a sliding single door.

Insulated Boxcar

Insulated boxcars are used to carry products requiring protection from temperature extremes. These

cars have the equivalent of at least 3-inch insulation on the sides and 31/2 inches on the roof and

floor. They do not have a cooling system. However, with plug doors and load-restraining devices,

these cars can maintain the temperature of many food products within satisfactory limits throughout

an extended trip without the expense of mechanical temperature control.

Mechanical Refrigerator Car

Reefers are capable of maintaining temperatures required by various fresh and frozen products.

They are equipped with a diesel-powered cooling unit that can last for as long as two weeks of

unattended operations. Most are also equipped with cushioning and load-restraining devices. The

newest units feature fresh air exchange, satellite interface, data logging system and Carrier

Premium Ultima refrigeration units. They range in size from 50', the most common size, all the

way up to 72'. CSX does not own any reefer and instead uses other carriers’, like the UP and

BNSF, reefers to move perishable products.
