One animal was powerful, another graceful, and another beautiful. The analogy can be carried forth to the Biomedical Library and the University as a whole. The Biomedical Library is composed of units that work together to help meet the information needs of our users. When contacted in person, by phone, by chat, by e-mail, etc, the personnel at the Reference Desk strive to help users find the information needed. The Circulation Desk personnel provide directions, check out study rooms and sometimes just lend a listening ear. The Education Department provides instruction in the use of the Biomedical Library resources. The Technology Librarian strives to keep the BL and the University faculty abreast of the latest useful technology and the Outreach Librarian promotes quality information to the University community and the public. The Interlibrary Loan Department locates articles and books needed by our users, but not in our collection. The Collection Management Department orders materials and organizes them in a "findable" manner. The Systems Department keeps the computers operational. And the sites at the USAMC and the C&W hospitals provided the specialized information needed for their user group. The Biomedical Library has several specialized departments and individuals that combine their strengths to provide efficient access to quality information. Director's Notes - April 2011
While on a recent visit to the San Diego Zoo, I was reminded that the strengths of one complement the other. One animal was powerful, another graceful, and another beautiful. The analogy can be carried forth to the Biomedical Library and the University as a whole. The Biomedical Library is composed of units that work together to help meet the information needs of our users. When contacted in person, by phone, by chat, by e-mail, etc, the personnel at the Reference Desk strive to help users find the information needed. New MeSH interface for PubMed - Spring 2011
MeSH, the National Library of Medicine controlled vocabulary used for indexing articles for PubMed, has been redesigned to provide users with the same streamlined interface now available in PubMed® and the NLM® Catalog (see Figure 1).
You will first notice that when typing a term into the MeSH search box that an Autocomplete feature has been added and now replaces the "Suggestions" feature (see Figure 2).
To build a PubMed search from MeSH and to run a search, select terms using the check boxes,

and then click "Add !o search buiider" in the PubMed search builder to the of the results. You may continue searching and additional terms to the PubMed search brnider "Add to search builder" and the Boolean pull-down menu. When you are finished, click "Search PubMed."
