Introduction from the CEO
Dear Applicant,
I am delighted that you have taken the time to find out more about this exciting
opportunity at Hospice Isle of Man.
The current post-holder is retiring and has set out a fantastic platform for you to
realise your potential to lead the delivery of truly patient centred palliative and end
of life care.
We launched our ambitious strategy in 2018 “Much More Than a Building” and are
implementing the findings of our “What Matters to You Matters to Us” campaign and
we are leading the Island Plan for Integrated Palliative and End of Life Care with our
partners in the Department of Health and Social Care and Third Sector colleagues
in the Health and Well Being Alliance.
The Scholl Academic Centre based at Hospice is our hub for Education, Research
and Training and hosts our Palliative Care Academy. We also host the Special
Interest Group for Integrated Palliative and End of Life Care for the International
Centre for Integrated Care (IC4IC) and the International Foundation for Integrated
Care (IFIC) and are closely aligned with Academic Centres Internationally, in
particular the Palliative Care Institute in Liverpool.
Hospice is guided and supported by a very ambitious Board of Governors with a
passionately committed workforce which includes over 500 volunteers.
The Isle of Man is a fantastic place to live and work and I look forward to getting to
know you if you decide that this is just the role for you.

Hospice influenced care
Much More Than a Building
This is a unique opportunity for a motivated individual to shape and develop
palliative care services on the Isle of Man.
As patient needs become more complex, we must ensure that our care
environment is fit for our future patients with a greater focus on providing greater
independence, privacy and dignity.
We are very fortunate that we have significant funding for a capital project that
gives us the opportunity to improve not only our physical environment for our
patients, but to also extend the reach of our care into the community and
implement our enhanced community model. With this in mind, Hospice Isle of Man
is currently undergoing major changes with investment in new buildings, staff
recruitment and research and development.
Hospice is part of the North West Palliative Care Network and we receive around
600 referrals each year to our comprehensive range of holistic palliative care
services. We anticipate an increase of 14% in referrals this year and Government
figures show that by 2023 the over 65 population will have grown by 30%.
We work closely with the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) to ensure
that we are neither duplicating nor under-resourcing services available within our
community.
We currently receive approximately £600k in funding from the DHSC, and fundraise
approximately £4.5 million each year in order to meet our £5million plus running
costs.
We are committed to providing care to anyone on the Isle of Man living with a
condition which is terminal or life limiting. In order to do this we need to reach out
beyond our building and work in partnership with a range of stakeholders within our
community networks.
Regardless of location we will ensure that our care partners are equipped with the
knowledge and skills that support people living on the Isle of Man to live well, their
way, to the end of their life.
