Receives the action.
Ask yourself…whom or what receives the action.
Luisa buys the blouse.

So what is a direct object prounoun? (D.O.P.)
Replaces the direct object (noun or pronoun).
Original sentence:
I want the blue shirt.
New sentence with D.O.P.:
I want it.
What are the D.O.P.s in Spanish?
me = me nos = us
te = you (familiar)

lo / la = you (formal),
him, her, it
los / las = you, them
Placement of the D.O.P.• The D.O.P. is placed BEFORE the
conjugated verb.• Example) Quiero la camisa.
La quiero.D.O.P. replaces camisa conj. verb
Placement of the D.O.P.
If there are TWO verbs (one conjugated and one infinitive), the D.O.P. can be attached to the infinitive.
Example) Quiero comrar la camisa.La quiero comprar. OR
Quiero comprarla.
How do I know which D.O.P. to use?
1st – Decide if the noun/pronoun you are replacing is masculine or feminine.
Masculine – me, te, lo, nos, losFemenine – me, te, la, nos, las
2nd – Decide if the noun/pronoun you are replacing is singular or plural.
Singular – me, te, lo, laPlural – nos, los, las
Figure out which D.O.P. to use based on the above steps.
EXAMPLE
Quiero comprar el disco compacto de Rhiana.
Our D.O. is el disco compacto. We know that it is just one, so singular.
me, te, lo, or la are our choices
We know that it is masculine based on the object “el”
me, te, or lo
We know that it is not a person, so the D.O.P. has to be lo.
