W elcome Bugaya (not in Buyende district but Jinja, Iganga and
Luuka districts and a bit of Mayuge) parish to the map of the
diocese of Jinja. They differ in intonation. 6th April the memorable day
when many gathered to see for themselves how a parish is declared by
decree of a bishop.
While this is done another parish is hotly awaiting to be inaugurated on
the 18th of May 2019, there is a bit of speculation about Namirali that will
be enveloping ordinations of about 5 long awaited deacons, new priests
that means appointments to places of work and possible transfers as
Namirali will have a fresh parish priest being appointed. This will be
Namirali parish, which is already with a Fathers parish house in its final
touches, the visitors or staff quarters ready to be furnished with
equipment, not forgetting the wiring has been done. There is need for
more assistance because the construction still continues at least of the
presbytery one to be known as the best presbytery in the diocese of Jinja
to contain around 8 bedrooms two for the priests and visitors‟ rooms.
This was the place where a man who never thought of his life as anything,
but to die for his faith‟s land for the church not to be evicted from their
own land where they had all titles in their hands. And this was Mr. Matia
Bateganya whose neck was cut with pangas to threaten as such to chase
the Catholics from that land.
Needless to say, this year we have the silver jubilees of
the bishop of diocese of Jinja as a bishop, priests:
Fr Joseph Dhamutuuba, Fr Matthew Kabaale, and
Fr. Kabonnge James. At the same time the bishop is
celebrating ruby (40 years) Jubilee as a priest. This
from general consent agreement from different committees will take
place on 24th November 2019, that is the family day of this year as we
close the year of children.

ST FRANCIS OF ASSISI BUGAYA PARISH FINALLY HERE 6
th APRIL 2019
It was all joys and ululations at the headquarters of the newly inaugurated
parish St. Francis of Assisi our lady queen of the poor Bugaya,
when the Bishop of the catholic diocese of Jinja, Rt. Rev Charles
Martin Wamika opened the long awaited parish and handed it over to
the Franciscan missionaries of our Lady of the poor. This took place when
a decree to create the parish was proclaimed by the Bishop at around 12
Noon East African time.
The occasion was far well attended by Christians from all over the
diocese specially to represent their parishes. But specifically from Iganga
the main mother parish from which Bugaya was curved, was well
represented. A good number of catechists were transferred from Iganga
especially those who were serving from Bugaya area as they were cut off
from their sub-centers to make Bugaya parish. Fr. Okurut Joseph was
installed as the first parish priest and his assistant Fr Moses Mburu
Kinuthia. They are of the Franciscan missionaries of Our Lady of the
Poor.

A good number of things were donated ranging from church vessels to
house equipment like beds, mattresses, utensil, boxes of soap, cash up to
12M was realized. And a politician promised to finance the fuel for the
safaris of the parish priest for a period of one year. The parish is
composed of 21 sub-centers. We are grateful to the bishop for the favor
granted to open a new parish for services to be near the people.
ALOKOLUM SILVER JUBILEE
B ishop led the group in the bus of Jinja college, and other vehicles
that came along. They arrived on Friday at around 5 pm and were
welcomed and priests were taken to the seminary and the lay
people were taken by vehicles and motor cycles to the foster parents
homes that evening and met for Mass on Saturday led by Bishop Odama
and concelebrating bishops Rt Rev C.M Wamika of Jinja and Rt. Rev
Vincent Kirabo of Hoima and the Apostolic Administrator of Nebbi and
many priests.
At the end of the Mass, the Chief Guest the Secretary General of NRM
Hon Justine Lumumba Kasule arriving in a police chopper leading a
group of politicians who delivered 10M towards the construction of
the perimeter wall.
Bishop Wamika donated Kangas (Lesus) to the teaching staff of
Alokolum and the foster parents. This is meant to thank the foster parents
and their idea of Okulera abaana (carrying their children from birth up to-
date). Just as a mother carries a child in a cloth idea. But also, with the
different martyrs decorated on the Kanga is the deep-rooted faith in the
foster-parents to the level of begetting new children of faith in Alokolum
Seminary. After which the bishop of Jinja and the Christians too donated
what they had collected from the Christians from the diocese and then
offered a Desktop and printer in-terms of cash to the seminarians of Jinja
diocese. On the day of departure, the foster parents also donated many
items to the visitors and by 9 pm they had reached Iganga town on the
way back. Bishop CM Wamika thanks for the initiative and all those who
sacrificed to go for such a rewarding trip.

LITURGY CORNER
LENT, PALM SUNDAY AND EASTER TRIDUM
During Lent, it is not permitted to decorate the altar with flowers. Use
of musical instruments is allowed only to support the singing. In
Lent, there is the practice of covering crosses and images throughout
the church from the fifth Sunday of Lent. Crosses remain covered until
the end of the Celebration of the Lord‟s Passion on Good Friday, but
images remain covered until the beginning of the Easter Vigil. If the
crosses and images were not covered on the 5th Sunday of Lent then
they must be covered on Holy Thursday after the evening Mass.
Palm Sunday: During the proclamation of the Passion (the long Gospel
on that day) the following is omitted. Candles, the use of incense, the
greeting (the Lord be with you), the sign of the cross (on the book and
on the people).
Holy Thursday: The celebration of Mass without a congregation is pro-
hibited on this day. (Only 2 masses are allowed on this day, the Chrism
Mass and Mass of the Lord‟s Supper). Recently Pope Francis changed
the tradition of limiting the rite of washing the feet to men and boys only
but included also women and girls. The Holy Father's decision has been
made effective by a decree of the Congregation for Divine Worship and
the Discipline of the Sacraments (In Missa in Cena Domini), dated
January 6, 2016.
Good Friday: The Church does not celebrate the Eucharist on this day.
There should be no celebration of the Sacraments on this day except
penance and anointing of the sick. Baptism can only be given in danger
of death. Funerals can be conducted without Mass, and without singing
including the organ Music and ringing of bells. The celebration of the
Lord‟s passion should take place at 3:00 pm but for pastoral reasons it
can take place at another time but not before noon and not later than
9:00 pm.
Holy Saturday: No other Eucharist (funeral Mass inclusive) is
celebrated except the vigil Mass. Holy Communion is not given out
except to the dying as Viaticum. The whole celebration should take
place by night in such a way that it does not begin before onset of night
except for grave reasons.
