Which of the Three Models was the best representation of a sphere?
Questions On Roundness
Using the roundness ration, which was more nearly a perfect sphere, the earth or the classroom globe?
Which is longer the polar diameter or equatorial diameter? What does this do to the shape of the earth?
If the earth did not measure out to a 1.0 on the roundness ratio, what do we call it?
Lets say that your are walking through the super market produce area, what piece of fruit would resemble the earth’s roundness?
Problem Solving Activity
Problem:
How can the accurate location of a position on a surface be communicatedbetween two people separated by a certain distance.
Objective: Working together with another person, and having your chairs back to back.Your objective is to communicate to your partner exactly where the dot is that was placed in your circle by the teacher. Your job is to create system or method that will allow your partner to place a dot in his/her circle in the same position that the teachers has placed in yours.
Procedures:
#1. Form teams of two and sit back to back with your chairs. #2. Each team will devise a method of locating the point on the circle and communicating to their partner where to place their dot in their circle. The two dots must match up exactly. #3. Teacher will give student A a dot in their circle and student B will have a blank circle. #4 Student A will have 3 minutes to communicate the position of their dot to student B without showing the diagram to student B. #5. Team member B with the help of student A’s communication will place the dot in the exact position of student A’s dot.
