Let’s talk paper. Digital papers to be specific. They’re an entirely different animal than papers for offset printing. And why shouldn’t they be. The printing equipment used is totally different as well—ranging from small office copiers to high volume, high heat color production machines.

The digital printing process itself faces several paper/substrate challenges. First, the media must run smoothly through the press. Second, it must adhere the ink/toner. And third, the digital paper and printing must withstand numerous bindery applications.

Precision Sheeting

All paper, whether folio or digital,

must be sheeted. The sheeting

process is critical to the runnability of

the paper. Having sharp, clean cut,

flat edges are critical to a digital

press’ up time.

performance in offset grades,

Mohawk’s proprietary Inxwell

technology creates an easy running

sheet with a tight surface and

exceptional toner or ink adhesion.

This treatment can be found on

Moisture content

Typical paper is produced to an

absolute moisture content between

4.0 and 6.0%, meaning 4 to 6% of

the paper’s total weight is made up of

water.
