On Sunday, June 26, we will gather to worship God and join infellowship on the side yard of the church. Bring a lawn chair or
blankets to sit on. Bug spray is also recommended! Right afterthe worship service we will eat lunch together. Each family orindividual is asked to bring a main dish and a side dish (e.g.,
salad, vegetable, dessert, etc.) Drinks and all paper products willbe provided. We will not have Sunday School on June 26.Please come directly to the outside service. Also, in the case ofinclement weather, we will worship in the sanctuary and haveour meal in the Fellowship Room. Bring a friend! It will be
fun!
The school year is quickly coming to an end. Beginning June 20the PeacentheStreets organization will once again be deliver-ing lunches to Pauls Mobile Home Estates and once againBrenda Lamb will be in charge of serving the meals. The pastseveral years DPC volunteers have faithfully helped serve lunch.The Outreach Committee has discussed the question of how bestto use volunteer time at Pauls. Brenda and other parents at Pauls
have suggested that we be more actively involved with the kids.Last year Shirlie Anson brought art materials and worked withsome kids, Deborah Dail brought coloring books and music fromBible School and Austin Dail tossed a football and read with somekids. These kinds of simple but planned activities would encour-age the kids and would give us a chance to know them better.More information will follow, but for now think of how you
could share some talent and your presence with these chil-
dren.

Kitchen UpdateOur Kitchen Team has been hard at work making plans to improve our kitchen so that we may
better serve our congregation and community. As we reported in the previousDigests, the Ses-sion has authorized the Kitchen Team to move forward with renovations to the kitchen, utiliz-
ing the money in the Kitchen Fund. Currently we have $20,197.68 in the Kitchen Fund.
Below is an update on what is planned/accomplished, the costs (to date) and an expected time-
line.
1. The electrical workis complete and we have one more inspection. Total cost: $3,243(Because of some necessary modification and additions, the final cost of $3,243 is $818higher than originally anticipated.)
2. The range/oven and convection oven have been delivered and installed. Groups are
already using these new appliances and enjoying them.
3. The sinkhas been delivered and is being stored until the plumber comes.
4. New flooring has been put down in most of the kitchen.
5. The new cabinets were installed in early May. A cabinet for our island with butcher
block is being built.6 The plumbing and sink installation is scheduled for early June.
7. The existing closet will be expanded.
8. The kitchen will painted. Painting will take place in June.
9. At this point we have spent $3,243 for electrical work, $720.00 for light fixtures and$9,987.00 to Crest for the range/oven, convection oven, sink and delivery expenses.

HELP US FIND THESE CHARTER MEMBERS
The Adult I Bible study for the summer quarter begins June 5 at 9:15 AM in the conferenceroom. Lessons are based on the Uniform Series which is shared around the world in Christianeducation. This quarter, which will conclude on August 28, includes studies in the Old Testa-ment books of Joshua, Judges and Ruth with a focus on our relationship with God as a commu-nity of faith. Join in for a study of what it means to live out the love of God in community.
In July, Van Rhodes will be leading a Monday night Bible study on the Letter to the He-brews. This will be a six-week study, beginning on July 11 and ending on August 15. Timewill be 6:30-8:30 PM at the church in the Fellowship Hall.
In studying Hebrews, we also will delve into the parts of Exodus and Leviticus dealing with
the original Tabernacle, priestly office and sacrifices that God instructed Moses to institute.This will aid us in understanding what the writer of Hebrews is illustrating: first, that those
precepts pointed directly toward Christ Jesus; second, that they were temporary, inferior to,
and superseded by Jesus perfect sacrifice.

LINK of Hampton Roads is in need of furniture for its Veterans Transitional HousingProgram. Below you will find the list of needed items. If you can supply any of these items,
please contact Lynne via e-mail, [email protected]. Thank you for your continued
support of LINK of Hampton Roads' continual efforts to assist those most in need.
In August 2010 LINK of Hampton Roads Inc., entered a contract to "house," for up tosix months, in Transitional Housing, homeless veterans who have multiple issues. Their is-
sues can range from simple medication management to surgery to learning how to care forthemselves in a home environment. We have two homes on the peninsula which are "house
managed" through 24-hour coverage. So far we have housed and placed into housing or per-
manent supportive housing some of the veterans who have been through the program.
These men are men who have served our country in Vietnam, Korea, Afghanistan, Iraq orother tours of duty, some in covert operations.
We are very proud and honored to be assisting and working with the Veterans Admini-stration in helping those men who protected our country and who now need help and protec-
tion from the elements and other challenges they face with multiple ailments, the most preva-lent being Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, from the experiences suffered while on military
duty.
Veterans Transitional Housing Program
2 vehicles, 2 outdoor tables with chairs, 1 gas grill, 4 couches, 6 twin beds, 14 sets of twinsheets, 14 blankets, 14 pillows, 2 full sets of dishes (serving of 8), 4 doormats, 14 bath tow-els, 14 hand towels, 2 bath mats, 4 bathroom rugs, 2 sets of spatulas, 2 large serving dishes,10 large plastic storage containers, 3 TVs, 3 combination radio and CD players, 9 bedroomdressers, 3 TV tables, 6 end tables, 3 coffee tables, 6 lamps (for the end tables), small photo-graph frame (5x7 or smaller), 2 irons and ironing boards, 4 decks of playing cards, 2 Scrabblegames, 2 Monopoly games, 2 Wii games, DVDs suitable for men, 11 fishing rods and equip-ment, 5 mens bikes, 2 sets of horseshoes, 2 soccer balls, 2 bocce balls and any and all typesof outdoor games.
PORT Homeless MinistryFor the 2011-2012 season the PORT Homeless emergency shelter program has been extendedan additional 4 weeks. The shelter program will begin October 26, 2011 and end on April11, 2012. The change will give the guests an additional one week at the beginning and threeadditional weeks at the end of the program. Denbigh Presbyterian Church will be a host loca-tion twice as we were for several years in the past. Our first week will be December 28, 2011through January 4, 2012. The second week will once again be the last week as has been tra-ditional for Denbigh Presbyterian, this will be April 4-11, 2012. Thank you in advance for allof your hard work, the long hours and all of the support you give for this program.

Are you interested in going on the next Haiti Mission Trip?
The trip will be January 2012 (at this time, probably January 9)

You must commit to assisting with at least 2 fundraisers
You must commit to being on the team by June 30, 2011
Church members will have first priority
Church members are asked to contribute 40% of total trip cost
Non church members are asked to contribute 60% of total trip cost
The approximate costs for the trip are listed below:

Lodging and one meal per day $300.00

Approximately $1,780.00
Bruce and Deb have asked the church to increase the frequency of mission trips from every24 months to every 18 months. We are allowed to send a maximum of 10 people (12 if everyone isreally friendly). 10 individuals adds up to $18,000, creating a real challenge to our fund raising
abilities (even with Sandi Murawski leading the charge).Currently, we have about $10,000 in the kitty that weve raised thus far, with only 7 months
to go. Thus, we are asking for mission participants to step up and help defray part of the trip costs.The guidelines are 40% for church members and 60% for non-church members, but it will reallydepend upon a) how many individuals wish to go and b) how much is in the kitty from fundrais-
ers.
With regard to the participants portion of the costs, this can be done by funds out ofpocket, and/or by finding a sponsor or sponsors in or out of the church, and/or by work projectsrequested by church members**
Those who feel a calling from our Lord to participate in this work are asked to let us knowby June 30 (contact John Fleming, Van Rhodes, Sandi Murawski, or Rev. Deborah Dail). Also,let us know whether you can assist with the costs or will need extra assistance in coming up with
the 40%.
Note: If you cannot go but would like to assist or sponsor a mission participant, there
are ways that you can help!
1) You can volunteer to pay all or a portion of the individual responsibility for a participant.
**2) You can offer up a home project that needs doing painting a barn, doing some yard work,etc. - payment for which you would then offer to the church on behalf of the individual who com-
pleted that project for you.

HOME RENOVATION PROGRESS REPORT MAY 15, 2011
God still is at work through his servants in the home renovation. With their skilledhands, patience and dedication great strides are being made for the family.
Since the last report much has been concluded. All interior doors are now in place(though some temporarily) to provide the home occupants with privacy. These will be perma-nently mounted as each room is finished.
The six remaining windows given by Custom Vinyl Products have been installed aswell as the two exterior doors. These have all been caulked and a finish coat of paint appliedto the doors. It took a great effort but the aluminum siding was removed and recycled. Newvinyl siding took its place. The siding removal and subsequent new siding addition took days!
Not an easy job for a bunch of rookies! Alside Supply Center and Wayne Harbin Builders
donated the siding. Some of the vinyl trim was given by Sturdevant Construction.
The steps to the rear door were in a poor, unsafe condition so they were reinforced andraised by several inches to make for a safer entry. They no longer are slanted and wiggle!Pressure washing of them comes later.
Work is now underway on the interior. One bathroom was stripped down to the studs.New paneling was installed along with wood trim, cabinet with tiled counter top, sink, twohandle faucet, shelves and a mini-closet. The walls and ceiling are now prepared for paint -thanks to Sherwin-Williams of Denbigh for more paint! Earlier in the effort the subfloor wasripped out and replaced to prepare for the new flooring to come.
One of the three bedrooms is nearing completion. A closet having a bifold door hasbeen framed in. All old paneling was removed from the walls and some insulation replaced in
the outside wall. New paneling was then put up along with the wood trim. The room will bepainted by the end of next week and the flooring will be laid late in the project.
In the rest of the home most of the wood paneling will be taken down and new panelingput in its place with insulation added in the exterior walls where necessary. Wood trim goes inthroughout to supply the finishing touch to the walls. Flooring throughout the entire unit willfinish up the inside. Last of all will be the replacement of the underpinning and badly deterio-rated wood deck.
The workers to date are Jay Dunn, Bev Daniels, Franz Thiessen, Fred OKeeffe,
Bob Murphy, Brenda Lamb, Christopher Garcia, Crystal Sweigart, James Emerson,
Keith Pennell, Jan Spruill, Blair Gloss, Alexander Kravets, John Mayes and Danny Hunt.If you would like to join in the fun please contact Keith Pennell at 877-3119. The team
also welcomes monetary donations to the cause. They may be designated to Home Reno-
vation.
The last point to address is money spent. The expenditures as of May 17 total $1674.These funds came from fund raising as a result of the Denbigh Doers, the dessert auction andthe furniture only sale. Donations of members and friends of DPC and the Outreach Commit-tee budget also added to the amount.

Its that time of year again! Time to pack away the school sup-plies, say goodbye to our preschool friends, and get ready to spend thesummer relaxing and rejuvenating. But before we say hello to summer, Idlike to tell you about some of the exciting things that happened at schoolthis month.
We had our last chapel and music programs on May 10 and 11. Ourfamilies donated over 60 items for the food closet, and we recognized ourparent volunteers with a reception after chapel. The 4 year olds cele-brated Tropical Day, the 3 year olds had Farm Day and Bubble Day, andthe 2 year olds went on a Teddy Bear Picnic! Many of our students havesummer birthdays, so we had lots of family visitors and birthday celebra-tions. Our end of year picnic will be held on May 26, complete with face
painting done by some of our teachers and a train ride from Big Top Enter-tainment. The school year may be winding down, but we are busy learn-ing and having fun right up until the last moment!
Sadly we are saying goodbye to two of our staff members. Mrs. Bar-tholomew will be moving to Kansas, and Mrs. Bouslough will be moving toFlorida at the end of school. They have been great additions to our staff,and we will really miss them. Please join us in wishing them well.
Id like to say thank you to everyone at Denbigh Presbyterian Churchfor making me feel welcome and for helping me to have a successful firstyear at DPPK. I know next year will be even better!

Summer MissionariesTwenty-two-year-old church member Mason Murawski is preparing for mission work in theDominican Republic at the end of June of this year. He will be traveling to the island with ateam of medical doctors, civil engineers and evangelists through an outreach organization
known as Hope International Missions (HIM)partnering with Lighthouse Worship Centerin Gloucester, Virginia. The team of teenagers and adults will be working with those in need ofmedical attention, onsite construction assistance, and members will be given the chance toevangelize through multicultural communication such as art, and music. The mission work willtake place from June 21-29, 2011. Amidst working odd-jobs and meeting with business andgallery owners about his artwork, Mason is attempting to learn enough Spanish to communi-cate effectively on his missions, along with fundraising for the cause. Kester McCullough is getting ready to visit Haiti this summer for a two month engineer-ing/missions internship with church-sponsored missionary Bruce Robinson. This will be histhird time visiting Haiti for an extended period of time to do rural development and evangelismfor the people of North West Haiti. Kester will be travelling through CrossWorld, an interna-tional mission sending organization that Bruce Robinson is part of. In the past, Kester has hadthe opportunity to work on many rural development projects, including fresh water pipe sys-tems, irrigation and canal construction, dam design/planning, school construction, road con-struction, and the rehabilitation of many previously unusable areas of farm land. Through the
past years visiting Haiti, Kester has been able to form real relationships with Haitians and hasbeen able to witness the deep transformation that God can bring about through these projects.
He has also been able to learn extensively about engineering and take the skills he is obtainingin school and apply them to the real world. He has also had a great opportunity to learn aboutevangelism in a cross-cultural context and grow in both openness and curiosity for other cul-tures and peoples. Kester plans on pursuing long-term over-seas mission work after graduation,and this experience in Haiti has been an invaluable blessing.
